Jeurgensmayer and David Lane have written extensive theses on the development and offshoot lineages of RS mat so there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of researching these historical aspects since Soami Ji.
The fact is the line of gurus followed on by Baba Jaimal Singh has been the most prolific and prominent in India as well as abroad. It’s only your personal experience that brings anyone to realize what is authentic and what is not.
If you still need some intellectual advice and clarification regarding what RS mat is about then you have not satisfied your intellects ramifications. Neither have you had sufficient experience on a personal level to settle all your personal confusion and doubts.

No formal line of Gurus is the highest path. In the true Sat Guru the teacher is your brother or sister, your neighbor, colleague or friend. Only one authority, the divine, and that is above us all. The true teacher points to God, not themselves. They are a Master of pointing to God, and a Master of avoiding the dias, the formal authority, the lineage. They don’t label the teachings, they don’t copyright them, they don’t charge a penny for them. If someone publishes them, that is a secondary layer, a copy.
They are not chosen by anyone but the Lord. Not a family thing, not an inheritance, except that we are all children of the same God and can partake the identical birthright built into each of us.
The formal path is always a photocopy of the True Path and well beneath it. But a good photocopy of a map still can have very high value, if you use it well.
Use it to find the highest and True Teachers. That is the only utility of the photocopy. A good stepping stone.

The pull comes from within. Then we automatically come together. We start by learning from our own discomfort with this place, our own desire for something better. Always starts with the pull from within.

Knowing him is nothing. Knowing the Lord, the Divine is everything.
The seed needs the husk, needs the protection of the husk and the nutrients of the soil to start. Absolutely necessary.
But as that seed sprouts, it pushes against the husk. And a little light peaks through.
And then, the seed that loved the husk and its power and protection, as a result, in part, of the husk’s good work, now pushes hard against it. As it must! As even the Husk desires.
Until the husk is no more, left behind, and the darkness of the soil is pierced, and the sky is radient, the first major step in the journey.

So many times Brian, you write how you value science. Mathematics has quite an important role to play in Science. So you should know that the infinity / infinity is not zero, just as I am sure you know that the sum of all positive integers is a small negative number. (calculates to -1/12 as Leonard Euler proved in 1735, a result that was only made rigorous later: today physicists have been seeing this result actually show up in nature. If you dont believe me, look it up.
on the rare occasions I visit your blog, I see so many references to science and how solid it is, and I puzzle about the statements made and wonder how anyone with a true knowledge of science can write so many false statements.

It’s problematic to apply algebra in a linear fashion to infinite values in series. The sum of all natural numbers isn’t negative. But the assumptions in math necessary to actually determine this simplify the process to lead to this result. This is where Mathematics applied to the physical world has its points of divergence. But in the subatomic world it is possible, because particles can go negative, can cross space without movement, disappearing here and reappearing there, and can even go back in time.
When you apply different methods of math, like the communitive property, or simple division in infinite series, then what clearly was divergent becomes convergent. And there are instances in this physical world where the same things happen.
So while it is obvious in physics and math that the sum of all natural numbers diverges to an infinitely large and undefined number, it is not true applying those numbers to subatomic reality, and in particular fields of energy in a context where they are interacting with other fields. In that realm 1+1+1…or especially 1+2+3… can invert, and even sum to the negative.
Physicists do not actually believe this is applicable to the physical world, as you claim.

–I was a strict vegetarian for a pretty long time.. about 28 years. I have thought and studied about this subject a lot.
People can live well on a variety of diets that include or don’t include meat especially if civilization is available. There, you don’t need to eat meat if you don’t want to. There are so many foods and supplements at your beck and call. Don’t like killing and eating cows? Don’t do it. It’s not necessary, although for some, avoiding meat will not be optimal for their particular metabolic setup.
In the wild, without food you have brought with you, you will eventually discover what your body really needs needs to survive long term in a vigorous way with a body capable of procreation and longevity. That will include some kind of animal food.

Sum of all integers is generally accepted to be negative and known. It also has many real world applications.
Look at the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan – one of our greatest mathematicians, – humble enough to suggest all his knowledge came from a divine source – take a read of analytical continuity, a set of mathematical principles accepted in science and perhaps you might of heard of Leanard Euler who rigoursly proved the sum of all integers.
Just because the facts are not intuitive to Spence Tepper I suggest does not imply the facts are no longer facts. What your opinion may be Spence does not change reality, but it seems it only changes your reality.
Dont worry you are part of a large group of humanity who fiercely defend what they believe presumably because they believe they are right and those who offer something outside their reality therefore must be wrong.
I challenge your statement about sum of all integers based on my beliefs, which are simply that Euler et al. generally accepted to be among the worlds greatest mathematicians, know more about mathematics than Spence Tepper.
By the way, this result is used in several scientific areas, especially for theoretical physics including String theory.
But anyone with wide enough knowledge of science would of course be aware of this!

You can’t divide infinity, Phil. And therefore commuting values across the equals sign violates the princple inherent in diverging infinite series.
If you really need to understand infinite series and how Euler and Ramunujan’s shorthand using discrete math for infinite complex series works, then consider that dividing infinite by 1, 2 or any number violates the principle of infinite values. But you have to violate that law to get to – 1/12. It’s complex, but unreal. You can do it, but then – 1/12 isn’t what you think it is…..

1+2+3… diverges to an infinitely large amount.
But (1+2+3…)/2 is not actually half that amount. It isn’t half of infinity.
In fact it’s still infinity.
You can’t apply discrete Algebraic laws to infinite series. Or, if you do, it requires redefining what you mean… So (1+2+3…)/2 may accelerate at half the rate of growth, but nothing can be said about terminal velocity since that’s infinite.
Using algebraic math on infinite series is a shorthand that has substantial context constraints.

Actually infinity within infinity is natural, and numbers are their discrete and conceptual representations.
There are infinite numbers, irrational and rational, between 0 and 1.
And there is a second Infinity between 1 and 2.
And an overlapping series between 0 and 2.
When we begin to measure, creation comes to our measurement. It resonates with discrete frequency, millimeters, whatever we use to parse this infinite reality, we find representation of that division in this indivisible creation. So then it becomes divisible according to our method of measurement. Hence discrete numbers are conceptual, because we create the rules for them. But infinity is natural. The natural state of all things.
A plank of wood may measure 3×8 but it is actually a complete whole. It fits the measure as we apply the method of measurement. Whether we use centimeters or inches the measurement will have a different result. Wood is the same. The difference is in our conceptual design.
But actually that wood has infinite units. And that is so outside of any measurement.
Time is much the same. Each moment is a microcosmic record of all time, just like holography. The whole is made up of infinitely many smaller images of the same thing.
Infinity is natural. Numeric measurement is our conceptual overlay. But infinity gladly complies.

Wow! I woke up abruptly this morning! Just wanted to share my thoughts on Kal since I’m regularly half-jokingly saying GSD is Kal. I only say that because GSD is the first RSSB Master that doesn’t take on any of his initiates karma, which is counter to previous RS policy. But how can he if his job is to dole out judgement? So, I get it… but still not cool. Plus everyone gets initiated. All you have to do is say you’re not blind or severely mentally ill, and congratulations! Here’s your Happy Meal. Sorry, no fun toy included.
The other thing is he seems to subscribe to the Hindu version of highest region. With him you could get that far at least but them according to old school RS philosophy you’d have to eventually come back and find a master that can take you beyond that level.
Anyway, what I just wrote sounds like a bunch of fantastical jibberish. Sounds even more insane if you share it with a Christian minded westerner… or an atheist. 🙃
But, what I woke up to this am was my husband asking me if I had payed $297 to some weird company in PA because it showed up on our card. Of course, I looked up the company and totally not legit. Look I support these girls with their Wiccan/tarot reading, sage burning, gender identity crisis. They’re really good girls. We only have five rules for them:

And 95% of the time they follow all those rules, but Jesus!!! I went all caps text mad this morning with the oldest niece that ordered that book. LOTS OF TEXTS. I knew if I spoke to her I might start yelling.

It’s fundamental law of the universe as old as time and never violated. Call it a natural law, call it karma, call it what you will, forgive who or what you want, makes no difference – there are consequences to your actions.

The question for me is really whether trying to throw the guru under the bus carries a far bigger karmic debt.
If so, no amount of all this baloney talk of forgiving gonna make any diffs.
My take is guru can’t change the rules of this world, but understand them best. So he knows when karma has been repaid – eg, if genuine self-acknowledgement of a wrong and sincere contrition on the part of a wrong-doer and attempt to do right.

Thanks for answering my question. However, what’s “karma” is more far more complicated than it may appear on the surface. There is no difference in criticizing a “Master” as there is in criticizing any other human being. GSD is not my Master. He has no control over my “karmic debt” and he is not God anymore than anyone else. However, he does have control over his own desire for vengeance just as I do.
Nothing I have ever shared on this blog is the motivating reason for what I say here. Only GSD knows why (and hasn’t been shared here). I certainly don’t need his forgiveness nor do I need an apology from him. And he can be as angry and full of revenge towards me as he wants—that would basically mean things will stay status quo. That’s completely up to him. I couldn’t care less.
Based on your blind, one-sided piousness I am completely done with him. Meaning I’m done with giving him the benefit of the doubt. Instead of half-joking that he might be Kal, I’ll just settle on “he’s definitely Kal.
And “throw him under the bus” is literally laughably ironic. How about we leave it at that.

Dealing with life and the consequences of our actions is not an easy practice and expecting some Master or some imaginary God to come along and help is just wishful thinking. I do like to think that there is some inner positive power (the opposite of the negative power) that we can connect to which will help in this difficult journey of life, maybe even our own higher self, which is waiting for us to be more humble 🙂

Let’s be really clear about something. Aside from sharing all my concerns and criticisms, I wish no ill to befall GSD or anyone for that matter. I disagree that Mystics should not share Inner experiences. Other wise, no one would ever seek, if there was nothing known to seek, that had not been shared by Seekers. Empathy for fellow travelers on the Path of Consciousness Exploration is the main reason Inner experiences are shared among Sincere Seekers. Had it not been for Julian Johnson, I would have never searched for the inner experiences Sawan Singh described in his book, Spiritual Gems, or Swamiji’s Sar Bachun Prose. But they were both dead, when I encountered their books. I then needed to hear from real live Mystics, who were kind enough to share their inner experiences, that I could do my own experiments, and compare notes with, to find out if any of the testimonies were real. I can understand why young Mystics want to keep their inner experiences secret, because of the comments by 99% of the posters here on CoC for example, that either have never had any inner experiences, or are too selfish and self gratifying to encourage their fellow travelers on the Path to keep trying, if they have not yet been successful. But why should those of us who HAVE had many types of inner experiences be silenced by the self appointed Holier Than Thou Keepers of Secrets Devotees?

It’s true that so many earlier initiates were led to RS by ‘Path of the Masters’. A hitchhiker left that book in my father-in-law’s car many decades ago. He stayed up all night reading it and then declared to the family the next day that they were all going to be Satsangis! He made this declaration as he was throwing all the meat out of the fridge. A very decisive and commanding figure was he.
And that’s the rest of the story.

Julian Johnson didn’t discuss inner experience in Path of the Masters he wrote about his love and admiration for his guru but he did not disclose inner experience.
Soami Ji explained in his prose and poetry about transversing realms that he experienced for others to follow.
But at best these descriptions are feeble in portraying the real state.
Therefore later gurus have not elaborated on innermost experience and have rather emphasized to stay within the practice and don’t disseminate spiritual or inner experience far and wide.
I remember reading the story about the disciple who saw his guru in everything. He would go around and hug the cow and the tree enraptured in love for his guru, he only saw his guru through his eyes everyday everywhere in every body and everything. So he would exclaim out loud about how he loved his guru in the cow and the dog and everyone and everything in his ecstatic state of devotion with his master.
When the other disciples saw this going on they went to the guru and told him what his disciple was doing going around exclaiming his ecstasy in devotion. The guru called him and asked who gave him permission to express his love for his guru externally and his reply was the guru had given him this experience. So the guru said if he was the giver he can also withdraw his love and the disciple was left depleted and destroyed by his now barren state without his heightened devoted ecstasy. He begged his master to replace his inner devoted love and that he will cherish it in his own silent capacity and not show it to the world.

We all have our unique talents or gifts that we just seem to be born with and then everything else we have to work to cultivate. Yours seem to be calmness and contemplation. My family thinks I’m super intense and that can go both ways—exciting and sometimes frightening. But they’ll tell you the two good traits I have always had (maybe the only two truly good traits I have at all) are the ability to laugh at myself quite easily and generosity. I don’t get attached to material things at all. No sentimental attachment whatsoever. But I’m impulsive, indecisive, have no sense of time and am too outspoken. Anyway, that’s what they tell me.
Just curious (this is going to sound so 60’s and I’ve probably asked you this before) what is your sun sign? Do you know your moon sign as well?

Misspelling Gurdwara multiple times is like using Chuurch instead of Church. There are some things you just don’t repeatedly misspell if you have a fair amount of knowledge on the subject.

And sure it can also be spelled Gurduara as Soami can be spelled Swami. But you’re never going to see Swoami.

Wow, Jen! That is intense!! Now I’m really curious about your rising sun. You know your sun sign is one-third of your personality, moon sign is another third and then rising or “ascendant” is a third. But the rising affects everything else in your chart so it’s really important. And it is determined by the time you were born.
I have libra sun, libra moon, libra mercury, libra mars and libra pluto!!! Plus I was born on a Friday (ruled by Venus) and on the 6th (also ruled by Venus). However, my rising sign is Scorpio. LOL So that puts most of my planets in Aquarius and since my Pluto is in Libra and my rising sign is in Libra then it changes all of my Libran planets so that they are super intense.
Most of my friends are Scorpios and Virgos. My best friends are Scorpios. I get along with Librans well enough but they are usually way less intense and that makes me feel a bit uncomfortable after a while. LOL. As far as work goes, I work best with Aries because they’re decisive and that helps balance things out.
The long and short of it is I’m like one giant continually exploding fairy-dust-glitter-bomb. It’s very confusing.

And the other way of doing it puts all my Libra planets in 11th house except for Mercury which is still in 12th house.

Look up ‘Astrolabe’ online, there is info about Sun, Moon, Rising sign and all the planets and the effect they have on us at the time of birth. Its good if you know your time of birth as well as the date and place.
This is from the Astro Chart they sent to me, the Libra side of my personality balances out my intensity and helps me to be calm.

I don’t think I’m an alcoholic. Of course that’s what all alcoholics say but I don’t have any desire to drink anymore.
Anyway, as far as ACIM being all smoochy or however you described it, the fact is it divides us into 4 categories (body, ego, mind, soul) whereas Sant Mat just talks about the three—body, mind, soul. What has helped me is understanding what the ego is and the role it plays vs the role the mind plays. It made such a big difference for me that I stopped having horrific panic attacks. I don’t have panic attacks at all anymore and don’t need meds for it. And that’s huge.
You may think it’s all about being “nice” but that would be a very superficial observation.
Then again you may have glanced over the blurb about it after a few pints so didn’t get the full gist of it. But that’s OK. Clearly, you’ve got your ego in check. 🙄

Hi Jen i worked with old people with deep dementia but must say that was one of best times i had. I beacame friends with them and they were not scared when i told them it was 2000 something and not 1987. I think they trusted me. And last day i was going away they were all normal for few hours just like that movie. Jen hope you have a person you can trust and you will never be lost. You are of my fathers age and i just have one thing to say i bow down and have a nice days. Peace

My doctor advised me to have a brain scan and the result was quite a shock. My next move is to see a geriatrician who deals with the health and care of old people. He has been on holiday but is back after the weekend, so will make an appointment. Sounds like the person I need the most now, there is a good write-up about his practice, so wish me luck, this is going to get me through this. Gotta be positive!

I’m not naive, I’m just terribly hopeful. Hope against hope—that’s me.
And I don’t really do chill but what may seem like me being upset is really me just being expressive. I don’t get truly angry that often. And if someone makes me really angry in public or online I’m more likely to make a short snide remark than to make a scene. Still working on not getting angry. But, what you perceive as me being truly angry is actually me just being innately “excitable”.

After getting over the shock, its quite strange that I’m actually quite light hearted and not grumpy at all. I think that maybe dementia is like going back into a second childhood and if I don’t worry too much it means I can be quite happy! I do have a good relationship with my sons and the one who lives nearest has taken on the task of being my ‘Guardian’, so I’m well looked after.

Interesting, I didn’t realize that your rising sign is what your sun sign was in your past life. Really explains a lot. And astrologers say that having Scorpio rising acts more like the actual sun sign. What I mean is, they say people with Scorpio rising will often act more like Scorpio than their “current” sun sign. I had a dark side growing up—most of the time I was always kind but if someone went out of their way to hurt me I would retaliate ten times which is so out of balance. I wouldn’t do that if I started the fight but if they did then I would think it was “unfair” and turn into the “dogs of war” as my mother-in-law jokes.
My biggest life lesson has been to learn that there is no excuse for torturing people. I know that’s sort of like “duh” but I was born with some serious issues. And I’ve learned the hard way… really hard way but at least I’m learning. No matter what someone does to me, their suffering can’t take away my pain. It just makes me sicker. It’s easier to let go of an attack if it comes from someone you don’t care about. But if it comes from someone you really do care about then instead of letting go and walking away, I tend to bat them around like a cat with a mouse. It’s insane, I know. But it’s just because I don’t want to let go. And I’m aware that’s wrong but my biggest fear is being abandoned so I do whatever I can to hold on even if it is crazy. I’m trying to let go… it’s just really, really hard to do.
Anyway, I guess the gods must have been like Jesus Christ! this soul needs to learn some balance! So they flooded my chart with all this Libra energy hoping it would transform me. Painful… but it seems to be working.

Babaji wasn’t enlightened before he was handed Gurudom even though he was destined to be master from a point in time.

Also, people staying at hostel 6 aren’t allowed to visit other people in their homes at Dera. I’d have to get special permission. And if they say no, I’ll most likely break the rules… breaking the rules is what keeps me sane at Dera. Will be there Mar/April session. I’m praying it won’t be too hot.

So, I missed this at first and just read it yesterday. It does raise a lot of serious questions. What is the third region? I always thought that was where Kal resides (according to Sant Mat) so I have a negative association with it. Maybe I shouldn’t but I do…
Also, “fast-tracked”? What happens if the Master doesn’t go past Trikuti?? Then what? That would be a very bad thing, right? Just sounds a bit disconcerting to me.
Registered for the March/April session yesterday. Also extending my trip a little to spend a few days with an Indian friend at the Dera but she lives about 40 minutes from there now. As I mentioned before, my mother suffers from sleep paralysis a few times a week on average. But she’s never experienced any periods of depression in her life so I think hers is probably more closely linked to her synesthesia.

OK, I really debated on whether or not to include this one. But the important point (with regards to your shadow) is that it’s very common—almost always the case that people feel there is someone watching them during sleep paralysis. But the point is, it’s just a hallucination, so no need to fear that it’s some sort of spirit because it’s not. The reason most people have nightmarish hallucinations during sleep paralysis is because they’re still in a quasi dream-like state of mind even though they are awake. But the chemicals that release the muscles and allow you to move haven’t kicked in yet. And since the feeling of not being in control or able to move is naturally terrifying, people usually have scary hallucinations that accompany their paralysis. I’ve had three episodes of sleep paralysis in my entire life. That’s all but I can relate. My mother doesn’t have scary experiences much anymore because she’s trained her brain to know that it’s “OK” she’s going to wake up in a minute or two. But still… not fun.
Don’t watch these 3 links if you are really nervous about sleep paralysis. They are helpful if you just want to face it head on and understand that many other people are experiencing the same thing. I think the most important thing—is to know that the shadows aren’t there. The temporary paralysis is, but the other is simply a hallucination. No bad spirits. 🙂

I guess that’s enough for now. Next I’ll research any new medicines. But I know that gaba plays a big role. However, personally I wouldn’t suggest running out to your health food store and buying a bottle of gaba. But I can tell you something that helped me for several years with sleep was the combination of these two naturopathic medicines (*disclaimer: I am not a doctor—clearly—so don’t try this based on my advice). Several of my friends tried it to and said it helped them but not guaranteed to work for everyone (and, again I’m not a doctor).

Anyway, Trikuti by Sant Mat definition is not where I want to be. Not ever. Trying to get beyond the small minded ego.
Kal is actually an illusion if I’m being honest. He is a mythical symbol of judgement which is why he stays in Trikuti and never returns to the One. The idea is Trikuti is ultimately destroyed. If Kal had an actual soul then he would join the Oneness. But he doesn’t because he is simply a very powerful illusion. Every single thing you see from here to the third region is an illusion. It’s not “real” (meaning lasting) anymore than our bodies and the earth where we reside. All of this will end some day. Only what is real will remain and all the illusions you see in the first three inner regions may feel very real but you should take them for more than what they are—perishable. We all are. Only the Oneness will last. Only Love will remain. Everything else is a blip in time.

I did register is my husband can’t go now. I am considering going to resolve a few things. However, based on what happened last time I think there is a good chance GSD will “attack” me simply because I have spoken out against him here. I’m not afraid of him and I feel no “shame” for it. It has been part of my process. But he can be vindictive at times (believing it’s best for the disciple) and I just don’t need that.
I might go. I might not. It will be based on my internal, intuitive certainty whether it is the right decision or not.

I want to go but last time was a huge mistake. I have had good experiences at the Dera and I have had awful experiences at the Dera. Pretty much everyone in hostel 6 has at least one bad trip to Dera that they’ll gladly tell you about. Along with some good ones. It’s kind of like LSD—you really don’t know which way it’s going to go. 😂 As a matter of fact, that’s probably the best way to describe Dera for Westerners—is like an acid trip. Which way it goes, nobody knows.
I should have never gone last time. That was a big mistake. Although a few of my visits before that were good. As GSD likes to say over and over again, he gives his followers just enough rope to hang themselves. I have to decide what’s best. Hmm 🤔

Growing up in the South it was a pretty common practice to get beaten with a belt when you did something wrong. Apparently my mom and dad had very high expectations of their children’s behavior. My brother and I got beaten with a belt at least twice a week for something or another from the time we could walk. And most of the time when one of us did something wrong they would go ahead and beat the other kid just to teach us both a lesson. But here’s the kicker, in my family, it was a tradition over many generations on my dad’s side that if you started to cry when you were being hit with the belt then you would continue to get hit until you stopped crying. They thought that would toughen you up. And, Jesus God, it certainly did.
By the time my younger brother came along I think the state had outlawed it. It’s actually illegal to do that today. But in the South it was “spare the rod, spoil the child”.
You want to guess what happened? My older brother and I grew up with terrible tempers and an inability to cry. It’s almost impossible for me to cry even to this day and that’s not healthy. It’s not mentally or physically healthy. My parents regret it now seeing as my younger brother turned out so well (oh great). And I knew I wouldn’t use that as a punishment for kids.
When you’re taught that you will continue to be beaten until you suppress the tears and the pain… well, you wind up rebelling against any sort of authority figure perceived as being harsh. My younger brother wasn’t treated that way and he really has his shit together.
Moral of the story, growing up in the South was a bitch for a lot of reasons. Parents didn’t take shit from their kids. “Talking Back” was a big no no. God help you if you ever interrupted or tried to defend yourself when your parents were lecturing you. You’d get a swift smack in the face. And just a hint of sarcasm would result in the same punishment. It wasn’t till we were much older that we resolved our relationships with our parents. My story isn’t unique in the least (except for the “beat you till you stopped crying” but). Did it make us stronger? No. No just made us fierce fighters. Like my parents were raising us to be mercenaries or something.
My parents honestly thought they were doing the right thing. Churches were very tough and stern back then. At least half of my friends had the same type of discipline.
The point is, I’m not going to take spiritual advice from someone like that. Because the whole reason my older brother and I both search for spirituality is to find something that actually resembles God’s love. Not the kind of “love” that our parents and school teachers showed. It’s funny in a sad way… you’d get sent to the principals office if you misbehaved in class and he was allowed to beat you with this paddle he had hanging on the wall in his office. Luckily, my teachers weren’t as strict as my parents.
We were told a lot of effed up shit from the Bible. The same Bible that said God is love. Discipline is one thing. Harshness is bullshit.
My younger brother never had to search… he wasn’t a rebel and always did the right thing. He wasn’t angry like we were.
And this isn’t me feeling sorry for myself. It’s just how things were done in the South when my older brother and I were kids. If anything it taught me how to take the blows and keep fighting. But it didn’t teach me how to stop fighting.
You may think I’m “too soft” but unfortunately I’m not. Just ask my husband or anyone who knows me well.
His family was the same though. His aunts tell me that his father would beat him and his brother to within an inch of their lives. All in the name of “love” and what was best for the child. And they were Satsangis! Needless to say their boys were always in fights at school, always in trouble… But, honestly I don’t think his parents were as strict as mine. My husband said his dad would beat him until he cried and then stop. Kinda different.
And this is why I look for a teacher with compassion… there has to be a better way to parent kids and teach people. Scare tactics won’t get sincere results. Not from me. Not ever.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I’m actually thankful my parents trained me to be so strong. I’ve been in a lot of situations where I’m quite proud that I wasn’t able to give someone the satisfaction of seeing cry. I really think my mom and dad (mostly my dad) just wanted me to be strong. And it helps to have that ability in a lot of situations where you’re able to actually switch off physical pain along with any tears.
Maybe that’s what Master is trying to do for me. Maybe he’s just trying to make me stronger. However, there are some unfortunate “side effects” to the extreme tough approach.

When you beat a dog he’ll eventually obey. But don’t act surprised if he bites you at some point.

You know, Baba Ji is ruler of all the heavens. He’s been to Sach Khand. He’s gone higher than anyone else on earth and is probably the most spiritually advanced person on earth but he’s not all sweet and lovey dovey. That type of sweetness is surely weakness. Being sweet and nice to people won’t get you to heaven so I’ll stop even trying or wasting my time with that bullshit. I want to be more like Baba Ji. I want to be really tough and not take any shit from anyone.
I would tear down the old Satsangar and put up a parking lot. That would be hilarious! People would so pissed off but it would teach them. And I’d make all the Westerners stay at the Serai or whatever it’s called with all the locals so they could learn their lessons about how their first world problems have made them so spiritually weak. And I’d take out all the snack bars. People are getting too fat and aren’t focused on their meditation. And then I’d make all the westerners line up with the rest of the Indians and sit in the back without those comfy seat cushions. How weak. Westerners need seat cushions. So ridiculous. And evening meetings! Good God, they’re so spoiled with those movie style comfy chairs and then they have the nerve to cry and whine about all their petty first world problems! I don’t know how Baba Ji does it. He truly is a saint. No one but a perfect master could put up with all of that whining. Yes, Baba Ji is God. He is a perfect master. He’s shown us that Sach Khand is our goal. Not being all sweet and nice and making people feel good. That’s just a waste of time when you could be meditating.
Burn the books! Put up parking lots! Build more iron statues to really put the fear of God unto everyone and don’t let another person dare say Charan was sweet. Charan let people run all over him. Not Baba Ji. Baba Ji is strong. He’s tough. He doesn’t waste time with useless niceties.
I want to be exactly like him. I’d be a real bitch if a guru. I’d teach people a lesson. Meditate and stop your stupid whining. I don’t want to hear your problems. There are people with much bigger problems than yours!

Love won’t get you to heaven. Only meditation. God doesn’t whether you act like an asshole or not. He only cares that you sit for 2 and half hours a day every day. And if you do that then all your karmas will be erased and whatever else you do in this life won’t matter—good or bad.

In Meditation this morning, I projected a real important question, to my Higher Soul Self,………IF,……Jim is really a Missionary sent to scout just where such a True Home could possibly be, for this spirit that uses the Consciousness animating the Entity tapping these keys right now, Asking for the location of such a True Home, on any map, where I, Jim, could travel to, and remain, for Eternity, where I could never again be rejected, by any other Entity, nor be forced to compete, for every thing all other entities also strive for, and don’t know where to find it.
Keeping it real, I don’t know about any other Reader here, but speaking for my self, If there is such a Place as Heaven, Paradise, or any of the other places Religions and Sects claim is where only THEY, the “saved” ones, like them, of course go, than in my 78 years, I have yet to know of such a place where I would choose any group of like minded people I have ever met, to spend Eternity with , that would make me feel like I would never want to leave again. I obviously was never in such a place ever, or I would have never chosen to leave.

Beatings with a belt – yep not dissimilar to my culture. Personally, I don’t quite understand why anyone would beat someone smaller or weaker. That said my mother, who was normally v kind, would regularly fly into 50kgs of furious cussing rage and beat the shit out of us boys with anything to hand (I tried to argue it was uncalled for, but truth be told it probably wasn’t, since I drove her batshit crazy mostly). Let us not blame others Sonia.
The only good news is if you were quick you could sidestep the wooden spoon and let her mistakenly whack her mother standing next to you instead. This led to an akward moment and potentially a worse beating later, but you ask what is my point – be fast.
Maybe old school no bad thing. Have you ever experienced the same degree of love from anyone else despite the stricter generational attitude?
Nowadays there are a few children who are raised perfectly without such strictness, but it is rare and requires v skillful parenting. But it seems to me that there are an awful lot of self-entitled little shits running around, who maybe mighta benefited hugely from a little mcenroe backhander – don’t you think?

Don’t think it helps any to complain about parents and how they maybe fkd up. If you look at others, often your problems pale in comparison. Surely they did the best they could and what they felt was right at the time, despite maybe being a bit misguided – but who actually knows what is best? I watch my sister’s one pal, attractive young single mother, useless, lets her junior get away with blue bloody murder – I say a wee Jonny mac backhander might just be what little Harry needs, maybe even we get your dad involved.
But yeah we didn’t have a physically abusive pa – just as well cos he was a tank. He wasn’t into all that tough love and making a man of you, and hitting kids or women – more of a slow-burn temper. Hard to piss him off, Krakatoa eruption when you did.
At some stage you just got to take responsibility for yourself – no one else to blame really.

Oh no, Baba Ji has been nothing but kind to me. He’s always looked out for my best interest.
LOL 😂 we never had any kum ba ya shit growing up in my household. You’re hilarious. We were taught to be polite. Be respectful all the time but no huggy huggy bullshit. And no one in my house cried. Ever. It was seen as unnecessary and showed you couldn’t control your emotions. Some cultures cry at the drop of a hat. Like Indian women and Latinos. I’m not racist, I’m just pointing out the differences. I get so uncomfortable at the Dera when someone gets up to ask a question and just starts crying. I get really uncomfortable around people crying in general. My adult brain that has matured a little tells me it’s OK but all I can think when someone starts crying in front of me is ‘pull yourself together’. I’m like, I’m sorry your sad but can you go stand over there till you quit crying. For me, it’s only acceptable to cry if someone you really loved just died or if you just been told by your doctor that you have a terminal illness and you’re going to die OR if the person you love just cheated on you or left you. And if I’m in a store and a kid starts crying I have to leave. One time at the Dera just after leaving morning Satsang, I saw an Indian grandmother slap her 5 year old (I’m guessing his age) grandson because he was thirsty and wanted a drink of her water. I felt empathy for the woman because it appeared obvious to me that she was very frustrated and unhappy with her life. She probably was the victim of domestic violence herself. But I didn’t like the kid crying so I just stood there and stared at the both of them making it obvious I was annoyed at the situation. Then a teenage girl came and picked the boy up and carried him off. Stopped his crying. We weren’t allowed to cry as kids. We didn’t have temper tantrums in public. If you want to know how to control your kids behavior in public, just call my parents or anyone raised in the Appalachian South.
Don’t get me wrong, I have cried a few times in my life—mostly alone. Can’t remember when/if ever I cried in public. It’s annoying as all hell when people do.
Last weekend my oldest niece who is Latino just started balling because she was in trouble for a few things and she said she was so hurt that she had disappointed. I told her that was ridiculous, that she could never disappoint me. I was just simply trying to encourage her not to hang out with certain people and to get her grades up. She had four A’s but two D’s!!!
Anyway, it was awkward, and since my husband knows that I can’t handle crying he came rushing in and said, step out of the way I’ll handle this. Then he just put his arms around her and hugged her till she stopped sobbing. After she had calmed down I told she was crazy to think I’d ever be disappointed in her and that I thought she was simply amazing but just trying. Sorry, that was the best I could do. It’s a good thing I never had kids.
And btw, hugging wasn’t a thing in my family. My mother never yelled at me. She spanked with the belt when I was in trouble and she was very strict but I think the first time we hugged (if you don’t count being held as a baby) was when I was in my early twenties. I went up to give her a hug and she was very awkward about it. But my parents aren’t the same people today that they were when we were kids. Not so much anyway… they’ve mellowed. We’re sort of the parents now. It’s weird.
I always knew they loved me but we didn’t hold hands or any shit like that.
Have you seen the movie The Report? It’s about CIA off-site torture cover up. Well, Gina Haspel is from the same small area that my dad’s family is from. I love Gina. I can tell you why she is the way she is—because BOTH her parents were from that area. Every kid was raised to be tough. Those were tough people. An area where most people earned their living working in the coal mines. Baptist country. Nobody fuckin’ drank! And if they did they hid it in flask like it was bootlegged moonshine (which it probably was). Anyway, I get why Gina did what she did. I used to have the very same harsh attitude towards injustice. Dead serious. I was exactly like that. But as I got older and after a very intense spiritual experiences my attitude about everything totally shifted. I’m 180 degrees different in my beliefs about torture and just deserts than I was back then. She’s still my hero though and I think she regrets what happened. Probably because they discovered that torture was as effective as they had hoped (it doesn’t really work) and because most of the 119 people tortured weren’t guilty in the first place. Hindsight’s 20/20.
You know why I gravitate towards your personality and Gurinder’s? Because it’s very familiar to me. And we all feel comfortable around what’s familiar. But then I have this inner conflict where I decided against punishment, torture, harshness. So I act a little “schizo” go back and forth between what’s familiar, comfortable, relatable to what my adult mind decided against.
I was being a total bitch when I said Baba Ji probably slapped his wife around some. Maybe it happened on rare occasions, maybe it didn’t. But it’s hard for me to imagine a marriage anywhere where it didn’t happen at least once. My husband is awesome. He has a heart of gold, he is so unbelievably hard working and generous and so dedicated to being the best Satsangi he can be. But one time we were arguing about something that issue for several months and he finally just lost it. He walked up to me and slapped me as hard as he possibly could. My head didn’t even turn. I couldn’t feel the pain. I didn’t shed a tear or act surprised. I just said, is that the best you can do. He broke down and started balling. He was a wreck. I walked away disgusted. And I thought to myself, thanks mom and dad. Seriously, it didn’t even hurt. All that happened was my face went numb. But he’s a good husband. He really is. We all have our moments.
Anyway, you really gotta get of this kick of thinking I’m so soft. In my core there’s nothing soft about me. But in my more evolved adult brain I’ve worked hard at being “soft”. It seems to get better results.
Don’t ever call me soft or accuse me of being all kum ba ya huggy huggy again.

Anyone in any religion or philosophy, political party or gender identity, can follow the true teachings of love and spirituality learning from a true Saint, their beloved friend.
And for that there must be true Saints in every religion, and also Saints not in any religion. There are true Saints sent right from the Father who are Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists, Republicans and Communists.
And the teachings they give are the Word, the living water. They are the living water. Yet they may never mention Sant Mat or Radha Soami or any formal labels or the five words or even the descriptions of the several regions and even the highest they live at within themselves.
They might mention some saying or other from their teacher, or Christ, Buddha, or any popular figure from the past. They might share what they consider wisdom from books of the past. But it is only stated as something that appeals to them. They like it, they believe it, but it’s just a personal choice.
They are masters of the path of sound and light born into that condition. They are Masters because it is who they are.
The Lord has sent them to give this to others. Yet they never presume to say so. They carry no titles at all. They advocate no formal system of practice, and nothing distinct from the religion they were raised in or the philosophy of any system. They just have their personal practice that works for them. And they encourage their friends to reach fourth on their own journey and find a system that works for them.
The path of love is universal. Their friends connect with them through love, and this is how they come to learn about their lifestyle and habits. And by that love, adopt similar habits, similar active prayer, active meditation which they see, are drawn to and choose of their own personal will to adopt. They follow out of love. A love that generates a deeper interest in their friend.
There is no promise of an afterlife. They may speak of God in the simplest of terms… The vague, mysterious and wondrous divinity they witness within themselves and all around them in the creation. And this is love.
They may share their connection, their belief in an everlasting existence. But they hardly give any details to it. How would an Atheist share such a belief? In the simplest and vaguest terms.
And they never tell anyone to worship them within. They don’t say “worship the Master, focus on the Master,” actually referring to themselves. That would be placing themselves between God and their friends. They would never, never, never presume to do such a thing but allow their friends to indulge in such things. They would consider it to be an insult to the divine. Nor do they use the reference to other past Masters as the example to leverage their friends to worship them.
Their friends automatically see them within, naturally associate them with divinity, but their focus is on the invisible light and the silent inner music of the divine. And that is only so because they are brought to this automatically in simple prayer. And in the company of their friend. This is the true path of love.
Their friend doesn’t indulge in even labeling anyone a true Saint. There are human beings, and there is the reach upwards, the yearning for the good, the desire to merge with love itself of the highest order. And others of the past who are eloquent. But no reference to Masters.
There is no ritual of secret rites or practices. No formal or informal initiation ceremony, no organization of volunteers. No formal vows. No club, no tree house.
Their friends volunteer because their friend does, Because in his or her company, they feel like helping, and so now they like helping people. It happens naturally, wordlessly, invisibly.
Meet one of these people. Then it will be obvious how God works. Through simplicity, never in large numbers, without formality of any kind. Just pure love.
That is the royal road, the Word made flesh.
Yes they are here in all walks of life.

Don’t think you need to try prove you are tough, but noone solved their problems by blaming others, falling off the wagon or, I would suggest, even with kissy-kissy support groups.
Sometimes you just got to be told the plain old ugly truth, or acknowledge it if you honest enough, then decide for yourself to change it. Honesty and willpower – a bit of mental fortitude, that’s all.

Free from what and whom?
Free from the emotional bonds , interactions etc that people bind to one another.
How do I know?
By looking at them and how the react to emotional actions in the audience. Those who were initiated by MCS might remember the evening sessions and how MCS and his secretary reacted. You see these people had to endure day in day out the same questions and that for years at a stretch. The poor prof. B., being kind at heart, did his utmost to remain calm and kind … but one could trigger him. MCS could never be triggered.
If a teacher in that position has not cut all emotional bonds with the world, it would be humane be impossible to survive the social pressure.
They are the embodiment of the advice that was given to me namely to do my duties in whatever role I found myself, without getting emotionally involved in these ties or persons involved.
People play the whole day “rope pulling games” which end up in winners and losers. If the forces are equal the games are ended by divorce or better said suspended.
Only when there are moments in which people have to stand shoulder by shoulder, they don’t “see” each other and they don’t play the game of tope pulling.
The ONLY way one can differentiate a master from other humans is that one cannot play that game with them …. The are FREE …free from these ties.
AND … nobody can make them play that game again. The sooner one understands that the better … hahahaha …. don’t fool yourself.

Over the last year my vision has been getting much worse and then blurry and now straight lines aren’t straight. But now I can’t remember anything. It’s not dementia, though. It’s treatable. And I’m not scared at all believe it or not. Just sad. If I can keep my thoughts clear enough long enough then I believe I can heal myself.
I had a dream that I was flying and it was really fun and I thought why don’t I do this more often. Anyway, I do believe in miracles and now I have practice that.
I think this is God’s way of telling me it’s time for me to practice what I “say” I believe. And that makes me feel calm.

I can understand the sadness. Although this is just the onset of dementia for me, it is quite scary and nearly everyday I feel teary and anxious.
Yesterday I went to a Clinical Hypnotherapist/Psychotherapist and had a chat with him to start with talking about my thoughts and feelings.
It was very helpful. I was a bit scared that he might put me under deep hypnosis but he simply got me to relax with my eyes closed and he was sitting on a chair nearby talking to me quietly saying very positive things. When it was finished I thought wow, haven’t felt as calm and relaxed as I feel now! Have another appointment next week. It really helps to open up and talk to someone who is totally listening to what I am saying and feeling. Positive affirmations do help!

Yes, must be difficult. I guess that’s why nobody signs up for the job they just appoint someone. I’ve heard stories that Charan tried to escape when he found out he had been appointed. It’s really an unreasonable responsibility for anyone to have to take on.

No one needs to take it on. That role is artificial and unnatural. But it is advertised as natural. Charan didn’t want to have to ruin his life to run the family business. But this is how family businesses are.
Chik Filet is run by a family. Every generation in that family is assigned a role in the corporate business. You think anyone in that family, with all the money at stake, can say, “Dad I want to become a jet pilot?”
Hasn’t happened. Won’t happen. Family pressure, family oppression. It’s the downside of wealth.
I don’t think true Saints are appointed. They simply are. There isn’t a job. Job is man – made. Job is packaging. Job is family money family dynasty.
True Saints love helping others. It’s their joy. It’s who they are
When you set up a manufacturing plant and create an assembly line to make massive amounts of money, how can you complain about such a large and repetitive series of the same tasks over and over? You have no legitimacy to complain when you set it up that way.
That’s the problem with placing a person as an authority. People are drawn to the role, cling to the role, like Justin Timberlake fans. They give him all their love and justify it on supernatural grounds, which is just amplifying their own impulsive behavior to the status of perfection of God’s Will.. They cling to the idea of a master and adapt to the schmuck who plays the role on stage.
Those fans pouring all their love to Justin irritate him most of all. Because he knows best of all that love is misplaced. He is a stranger to them. They don’t know him. But if Justin shows impatience with such fans, he is the hypocrite. He perpetuates that false and debilitating, and degrading practice. It’s part of his income structure.
There is nothing special about the putz on stage. The power is within you. And you can find a more attentive helper in a good friend. It’s healthier. And real Saints are found among real friends.

I hear what you’re saying but with RSSB I don’t think Charan had any incentive to be the next Master. I think they just said, here you go. Good luck.
And Gurinder was in Spain. I honestly don’t think he had any aspirations to be guru whatsoever. I say this reflecting on some things I know about him.
But what are those people supposed to do? Just say no and tell everyone to go home? Of course, if they did I’m sure the RSSB committee would appoint someone else just to keep the organization running. Maybe they have a long list of back up gurus. Like plan B-Z.
It’s unique in a lot of ways especially in today’s society. Maybe they won’t have another guru and it will become a religion and numerous people can take on the job without people expecting them to be perfect.
I’m curious as to which book they would wave a big white feather over. Sar Bachan?
But, I you’re right that God is in everyone and can be found within. And seen in others if you look at others with the right perception.

That is wonderful! I’m so glad you were able to go to a hypnotherapist. I wonder if the therapy sessions with your hypnotherapist will slow down the disease.
I had this thing that my doctors have been monitoring for several years. I’m supposed to have ultrasounds every six months but haven’t had insurance in the last 18 months since my husband lost his job and has only had contract work. My job was contract based as well but I haven’t been able to work for the last three months because I just can’t focus. I forget everything.
I’ve had lots of different things going on that all seemed unrelated—serious vision problems, forgetfulness and chest pain. I just assumed they were unrelated.
My doctors office kept calling me to get me to do a follow up but I had to wait till I could afford it and then I finally found a grant. Anyway, I don’t have a final diagnosis yet and they have to do several more tests to do but I’ll have to get more grant money first.
I’m not afraid though. My dad is afraid. My mom says just be positive and my husband is somewhere in between.
It’s weird, I never expected this to happen. A day ago I was thinking why am I so tired all the time, why can’t I complete a single task, why can’t I keep up in a conversation with people… on and in little stuff.
The fact that I don’t have insurance and that it’s serious makes me feel like there’s a reason this happened to me now. It’s nature’s way of saying get your mind right while you still have it. 😂
Thanks for letting me know about your hypnotherapist and positive results. After more tests if I do get to the point of actually getting anxious and sad all the time then I will definitely try to see one.
And thanks for your somewhat gentle reminders that my behavior is a bit off at times. Please don’t feel like you need to do it too often but occasionally we need those.

I’m sure neither he nor Charan wanted the role. It’s a family thing, a family obligation. Charan would never disobey his grandpa. And Gurinder would never disobey his holy uncle.
But a dynasty is actually about money and the status quo. The obligations are immense. That is not a point of admiration. We were never meant to be beasts of burden. And once you accept that role, under family pressure, once you believe there is no escape, then that becomes the lifestyle and what you are teaching. And then you have no problems setting such imposition upon others.
It’s a culture of slavery. A caste culture where those in power who believe in such a system themselves become slaves of it.
No true Master alows themselves to be placed in a position that is set up to mirror idol worship, all the while decrying idol worship.
It’s neither a natural nor wholesome system. And no True Saint goes anywhere near there. It is degrading to themselves and those who would fawn upon them simply because they are in that role. Rather than raising people to their true capacity, this turns them into mindless and thoughtless, careless and even negligent sheep.
We all tell ourselves it is the person not the role. Then why the role?
Look at how grown men and women blush and fawn when the MASTER enters the room and steps upon the dias. Like schoolgirls giggling over a cute boy.
There is nothing of spirituality in this idol worship.
How many naturally worshiped Charan, Gurinder or even Sawan before they were accepted or proclaimed their acceptance of that very public role?
There were no followers around Gurinder who came to him simply because they could not resist his perfect loving nature, or his towering and insightful wisdom. That is before his assignnent to that role. No entourage of loving fans adoring his kind and compassionate nature just out of sheer love for their friend. Those qualities were not strong enough to draw others to him. Not strong enough to draw anyone.
But once in the role, now people say it is love that brings them to him. Where were the crowds before the formal role?
All those people are deluding themselves. They love the power. It is the role they love. That’s idol worship. And it is degrading to the human spirit. We were not meant to make ourselves slaves to other people in power.
Because compassion and kindness can be found in many places of humility and meakness that such proud and “godly” people never go. They believe they are mighty and need a mighty leader. They want an arrogant leader to justify their arrogance.
But the person in the role, by accepting such an artificial and manufactured position of worldly power in a formal religion, perpetuates and actually mass produces the myth.
And what does it say about you and I that we can’t see a pure embodiment of divine love unless they are on a stage in white robes and turban, a formal role with an arrow pointing to them, a sign labeling them “GOD” and a guru costume? Really? Really? It is an insult to ourselves that we are so taken by the role and the position of power. It is a tasteless testament to human stupidity.
But it is natural for many people who need to be led. And quite natural for others to reject following any actor on a stage playing a role.
It is all our projection and hardly connected to the actor on the stage at all. But as he is always playing the role, he is perpetuating the myth and the family dynasty that now depends upon it.

It’s lonely at the top. Look at how many of the rich and famous have ended their lives prematurely. I’m not looking at his role from a spiritual perspective when I say I just feel sorry for anyone that finds themselves in a position like that. It is a combination of feeling obligated and likely good intentions in taking in those roles. And before long it’s too late to escape.
I’m not in any position to judge anyone at this point. I’ve got my plate full of issues that I need to focus on and heal myself.
Looking at this from a place of empathy, I don’t think he loves his job. I’m sure there are days he wakes up and says why me. Sometimes he enjoys the good things that go with it. But you never know what a person is going through or how they feel until you walk in their shoes. I agree with Georgy when he said if you don’t like it or it’s making you miserable then find something else and I think that’s what a lot of people here have done.
I completely understand where you’re coming from but when the path no longer serves you it’s time to move on.
I almost think that all the time I’ve spent over the past year focusing on my hurt and pain and getting angry that I’m hurt and in pain is what has made my health problem progress into a disease.
Life’s too short for that. And even shorter when you dwell on it. I don’t believe that I’ve been “cursed” because I insulted a guru. I just think that my hurt and pain directed at another human being has damaged my body.
It was a big wake up call. I’m still a bit stunned. But I’m not worried. I just know I have to think peacefully in order to heal. Not just physically but mentally and spiritually as well.
I’m not afraid of whatever my future holds… just realized that for me (and it may be different for everyone else) I don’t really like the person I am today. That’s probably why I’m sick. And the only way that’s going to change is if I change my thinking and focus on what really matters.
Is the butterfly obnoxious? 😆 It’s better than a pink ribbon. 🙂
I truly believe everything is going to be ok as long as I make a huge transformation in my mind. Like the caterpillar 🐛 and the 🦋

I had reflex syncope when they were doing the tests on me today. They said that happens sometimes but I’ve never lost consciousness in my life. Not even when I skied head first into a tree in Colorado. But again, it didn’t scare me it just reminded me that my 47 year old body isn’t as tough as my 27 year old body was. And I don’t need to add anymore projections of hurt and pain to my little world (I feel like all people have their own little worlds in a sense).
Family, friends, and laughter are probably the most healing things in our lives if we maintain good relationships. Meditation is practically prescribed my doctors these days so that’s a must. Beyond that I really don’t need medicine or surgery or any other invasive treatments. We can’t really die before our time, can we? I just want to die feeling good about the person I am… whenever that day comes.

followers or how few though, masters will be idolized. A smaller

One can focus on removing the triggers or on the sensitivity of the body or both. The last two options proved to be the best. From there on I started to look at my own RE-actions for answers instead of to the actions in the world and found so more answers and understanding, both of myself and the outer world, then before when i was solely focused on the outer world as "source of"

Yes, that’s actually my point. I gave two essays above. One pointing out what True Saints are really like, and their intimacy and lack of any formality of any kind.
And then I pointed out the contrast with the structure of RSSB, which is both formalized and ritualised in increasing degrees, built for mass production .
But that was not actually to focus on RSSB. It was to point out that true Saints with nothing more than the power of true and pure love, who live steeped in Shabd and inner light, are around. They aren’t common, in numbers, but they may be found in many walks of life. They are much more common than one guy in a costume in India. Being receptive to that naturally draws us to them.
Moving on can be much easier knowing that a true Saint may be found in your own town, but you will only find them as a friend, not listed as Saint in any yelp or Craig’s list.
So that was my point. To point forward. To be inspired by the fact that what you received in part from Sant Mat you may receive in fullness and completion from the company of a true Saint, but one who will only take the role of a friend, and no other. It is just a matter of orienting our own heart towards love, and away from the past.

This is so very true. Nothing could be more true concerning your health. Especially mental health.
I also remember a story about a Questioner and Charan. The questioner told Charan Singh that all wife did was yell, insult and complain to her husband about his guru (Charan). The man was very upset about this and Charan Singh answered him, ‘Where is her attention? It’s on me.’
I don’t really know what my point was in sharing that… something about what you said reminded me and I’ve always thought that was an interesting way of answering his question about his wife.

Anyway, clearly you’re not a psychiatrist but since you like animals (perhaps more than humans) I’ll tell you this dream I had and maybe you can make sense of it. I dreamt about this cat I had. Her name was Gracie. She was a rescue cat and I spent 5 years taking care her giving her medicine each so she could live a happy life. I’ve loved every pet I’ve ever had but never been this attached to one. She was different altogether. First of all she never grew much and looked like a kitten her whole life. She had 7 claws on each paw so she looked like she had these giant Mickey Mouse hands. The hair on top of her head grew into two points that looked horns. People always thought we cut her hair to look like that (which would be weird). She wasn’t afraid of dogs at all and she would walk on a leash. She must have been something special in a past life because when I would walk her everyone would come up to me wanting to pet her.
So, back to the dream. Last night I had this dream that she came back from whatever world she lives in now (she died one day before I went to Dera a few years ago). For me it was the most I’ve ever grieved over any person or any animal’s death. But in my dream she was back and she spent a little time with me but went on to do her own thing. I was so hurt by it. I was like how could she do this after everything I did for her and how much I loved her. Then my mom (still dreaming here) said to me well at least she wasn’t a child. It’s not like losing a child. And I told her that I loved that cat more than any mother loves their child. And that was the most important part of the dream for reason. But at the end I was trying to accept that she had other interests and friends. I thought maybe she’d come back.
There’s probably a moral to this story.
I don’t know.

I’m very happy that I was initiated into Sant Mat. I like the principles, vegetarian, no alcohol or mind altering drugs, living a moral life, meditation. I still stick to those principles, not very good with sitting meditation but feel like my very quiet life is a kind of meditation, just focussing moment to moment.
Some people enjoy going to Church and worshipping someone who they think was perfect and thats their path in life and if it helps, so be it.
Even though I no longer put the guru on a stage and have realised he is simply a normal human being like myself, I am still very grateful that I have this Path and its principles to follow. I think its very worthy and it helps me a lot and I’m sure it is helping many others as well.

I read your comment and read this in a book immediately after. Just thought I’d share…
“God indeed can be reached directly, for there is no distance between Him and His Son. His awareness is in everyone’s memory, and His Word is written on everyone’s heart. Yet this awareness and this memory can arise across the threshold of recognition only where all barriers to truth have been removed.”

I mentioned a few days ago that I was reading the book Divide by One about a 57 year old woman with MS. Here is a description of the book:
“In the summer of 2018, ultra-endurance athlete Grace Ragland set off on the world’s longest mountain bike race, the 2700-mile Tour Divide. This is the story of Grace’s journey from the snow-capped peaks of Banff, Canada, down the spine of the Rocky Mountains, and finally into the forbidding desert of New Mexico.”
Grace was a good friend of my mom’s friend. My mother informed that Grace passed away this morning. She had cancer and it spread quickly.
It’s a great book. I highly recommend it.
On another note, I commented Thursday that I was concerned about my health but this evening all of my symptoms went away. I’m not sure what results I’ll get from my doctors. But it’s weird and I think illness really is brought on by stress and being hard on yourself. Anyway, I know this is sort of a random comment but I guess that’s what the Open Thread is for.
If I can think of anymore random stuff I’ll be sure to let you know.
But seriously, Divide by One is an inspiring and entertaining book (I’m not getting paid to say this). And Grace was a lovely person.

Beautiful. Everyone carries the whole pathway, divinity and wisdom and all the regions of heaven and hell within themselves. They are already connected to it, hard wired for it. But while the wriring is all there, and the signals back and forth are moving all the time, they must compete with those signals and transmissions from the senses, memory and emotion. And so they are not simply lost, but filtered out by our friendly neighborhood brain. But there is the method and practice of turning down the noise, attuning to the subtler signals, finer impressions, so we can begin to consciously regain that connection to what is already there and active all the time. Although I’m all Libra, Libra, Libra deep down I’m more Scorpio (Scorpio ascendant). When I was little we moved to this place where everyone was supposed to smile all the time and pretend they were super happy and everything was super great in their lives. I pretty much grew up there. I can relate to how you feel about the syrupy sweetness being so goddamn annoying better than most (you would think my mother is an alien… she’s the best at sugar coating everything. I drove me mad because deep down she was like a steel fortress. You have no idea. But the Libra part of me naturally tries to see each side and tries to understand other people’s personalities more than just what they say. Language can be such a barrier in communication.
That said, I can’t be around someone 24/7 that can’t handle blunt honesty. And I’m not trying to offend the people closest to me. I just hate glossing over series issues. I hate denial. It makes me seriously crazy.
But one thing I’ve realized is that in certain situations a particular person’s words are much more powerful than they realize. And perhaps more powerful than is reasonable. Like, I’m very straightforward with my nieces but also hold back a lot because I realize they are children and one word from an adult can stick in your head for the rest of your life. When you’re the child whatever the parent or teacher or mentor in your life says to you has such power over you and is difficult to let go of.
I see it happen a lot in Satsang in Q&A. And this is not criticism of GSD. But the fact is when people do get the opportunity to speak to him, if they get an abrupt response it can be exaggerated tremendously simply because of the role he plays in their lives. And that is often the one and only time they ever have a chance to speak to him (I’m talking about myself—I have had enough interaction and even I overreact). These questioners are basically like small children even if they seem to be acting like stupid adults. It’s an unnatural burden to place on someone in GSD’s role but it is what it is.
I often feel resentful of having to tame down my personality for others but then I try to remind myself, well at least I don’t live with these people and they’re not in my close circle of friends. That makes it easier for me to “soften my delivery” and less draining for me. Because it really is draining. Even with my family I have to be careful from time to time. The one who understands and relates to me best is my niece—the one that’s prone to crying. I don’t cry easily but she’s really open in an emotional way too (cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius) and can totally handle my sense of humor and my honesty about things. That was an isolated event when she got so upset because she thought I was disappointed in her. It was just a bad day in general.
Anyway, it’s annoying, irritating and draining to have to continuously adjust your personality for other people. I would not want to be in GSD’s shoes or anyone else’s who had to take on that kind of responsibility.
My dream is to build a small cabin in the woods and become a full-time blogger.

And when I say small cabin I mean tiny house. I’m obsessed with tiny houses.

Imo those insights into your own nature are potential gems.

Yes I’m still undecided. It’s a big commitment and I don’t like commitments – also if I say I’m going to do it, i don’t want to weasel out like the bitter exers on here who end up flinging dung at the poor guru for their own failures – or at least that’s how I see it.
But will need to change lifestyle totally if and before I apply and if they will accept me. I like booze, meat, chickies and cigarettes (the last one I can easily do with out). Plus I’m your age so no spring-chicken – hard to change but no excuse. I believe its meant to be for at least 1 year before you can apply so will start with that.
I just think you should lay off the sauce cos I got the feeling you might be using it to cope, rather than you actually like it. Besides if you already got the lifestyle sorted out – what’s the problem? Easy for you.

At least I had the courage to commit and willpower to give up all those things. I’m not a bitter exer. Not really… mainly I had one spiritual problem that he had no reference to… no understanding about and that’s what made me question. After that it was just a series of stupid events.

That’s just the inner master. The outer master is kind of a spokesman. And when you realize that you start to wonder why you need a living master in the first place. For instance, he would probably recognize my face as that crazy lady who gets all pissed of every now and again but he doesn’t even know my name. So, I’m reality how can I possibly be mad at him. He knows me about as well as Tom Cruise knows me. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous really.

They are better off by far than you. They knew the crushing pain of commitment and loss. The scars of giving it everything, their entire heart and effort, to get rejection and disappointment And they are stronger, so much stronger because of it.
It is better to run and fall than stand still in fear of falling.

And if you’ve felt this much hesitation over committing or going to Satsang or doing anything else related to Sant Mat then I think that’s your gut/instinct/subconscious trying to send you a very strong message. Some of the benefits of becoming a satsangi is that feeling of belonging to a group and like you say you enjoyed the satsang you went to and mostly satsangi friends can be good company (even Sonia is married to one lol). My advice is give it a try and ask for initiation. You will have to be a vegetarian, no alcohol or mind altering drugs and have strong morals so if thats easy for you to do, I think you should go to satsang and find out about initiation.
I met my husband at satsang so maybe you will find someone nice as well. I’m happy I still follow the principles and I think we should not have expectations that the guru will save us but living a good life style really does help.

OK, I’ve thought about this and here’s why I’m so perplexed.
Georgy sees GSD at a two day weekend. Didn’t even get up to ask a question. He’s not a satsangi, not ready to give of meat or liquor or girls. And he’s somewhere in between atheism and agnosticism. However, after that one weekend, he doesn’t decide to get initiated, instead he decides to come here and tell us repeatedly over and over again that GSD is such a nice guy and that he feels sorry for the guru. As far as I can tell he’s been doing this for almost a year now.

@Arjuna – I really think you take the “fear of God” thing way too far. God or “Love” is literally the opposite of fear. It is impossible to be afraid of God. You shouldn’t feel that way at all. “Sins” are errors and are not part of the now. Yesterday is gone along with all of your past lives. You’re not “paying for your sins” you’re beating yourself up and that’s what’s causing you so much pain. There is absolutely no such thing as an unforgivable sin.
@Um – he certainly has changed things. You can see GSD’s personality in every nook and cranny of the Dera and RSSB organization. RSSB is reflects GSD’s personality completely. But what is the personality? Isn’t it part of the ego?

The bottom line is I don’t believe in the teachings of RSSB. The uncomfortable interactions I had with the guru are what prompted me to examine the teachings more closely. For that I should be grateful.

You can even wonder if his uncle would attract these days as much people as he did in his own time. Spirituality, whatever it is, of these days is completely different from the 80ies and so are the seekers. In our big cities we would have a least one bookshop solely with so called spiritual books and the general book stores had always a great selection of writers as well …. they are all gone. No more macro biotic cosy restaurants etc etc etc. no more de-programmers, no more daily stuff on sects on TV … it is all OUT. Soon children will say,… what is a church, god, guru I came to this conclusion because in every centre the same type of changes occurred ...WITHOUT .. having received orders in that direction. Globalisation has caused an cultural turmoil and the waters have by long not calmed down and become clear again. … and I cannot say I enjoyed the changes or was able to cope with them, so I withdrew from the market place…. not knowing what the change is all about and having no idea of the direction it will take. Maybe the dera is a stronghold in a worldwide war … who knows.

That’s an interesting perspective.
Aside from the Doomsday Clock (which is extremely disconcerting) I see evolution in the spirit of people. Perhaps I live in a bubble… or maybe it’s perspective. I don’t know. But where I live the churches and schools and city council are so focused on creating programs to help people address and overcome issues in every area of their life as well as help them learn new skills and improve their quality of life. We’re sort of a self-help Mecca but I see this not just in my community, I see this in many places outside my community. I see it globally as well. Even technology has profoundly positive benefits if one uses it properly. I believe it’s what you focus on that shapes your perspective.
Maybe the world is just 50/50 (good and bad). Always has been always will be.
But from my perspective the only real and potentially irreversible change is the destruction of our planet. Perhaps if we focused more on the health of our planet we’d see a huge improvement in the human spirit. We’d truly become better people. Less greedy, less lazy, more content. More peaceful.

What up bro?
I could not resist to comment about RSSB initiation. It’s true Gurinder Singh’s teacher was very different in how he taught, namely …the respected Charan Singh.
So I figured I’d bring up the teachings from someone totally unrelated on the subject of initiation. There was another teacher who was a peer with Charan Singh under the tutelage of respected Sawan Singh the teacher of them both. His name was Jagat Singh (Also known as ‘The Perfect Disciple’).
Jagat held the ‘gaddi’ or Head of Spiritual Teachings at RSSB before Charan Singh. In Jagat’s time, teachings on obtaining initiation were even more serious than you may expect today.
To my recollection his instructions for seekers for initiation were;
“This path is the Path of the Saints. Most all saints recorded in history walked this narrow road. One must thoroughly make up one’s mind in deciding whether or not to follow the straight and narrow.
This path is not for the faint-hearted but for those who see the seriousness of doing right in life and of clear thinking, and also the limited time during human life for accomplishing such a task.
Sant Mat (The Path of the Saints), teaches two fundamentals; one is the goal, for which is the knowledge of self origin and just why God gave us life. The other is the road which will lead one to this goal; (Santon Ki Shiksha) the Science of Surat Shabd Yoga (meditation on the Shabda Dhun).
You are correct, this IS one hell of commitment. You must learn to wean yourself not only off meat, but fish, fowl, eggs, & anything containing those adopting a strict vegetarian diet thereafter where only things causing the least amount of killing will be taken for your consumption. This was explained because in order to come closer to the great Shabda on must lead a life on the basis of purifying oneself.
Hence, the one year requirement (now) on foods along with drugs (including marijuana), alcoholic drinks, and (now) tobacco. These parts may require some weaning off as well, or perhaps at first just learning moderation of, before this part of the requirements can be completely fulfilled.
For some, just these two requirements alone could take one several years to do -but not impossible. Again, this path is not for the weak nor faint-hearted.
Third, Jagat Singh taught that during the time accustoming ourselves to the diet, or substance free lifestyle, we should also review books on the moral requisites to further be decided on whether to take on this journey of a lifetime. It was suggested to read as much RSSB literature as needed before even deciding to venture for initiation, or to tread such a path.
So you are highly correct to say that this path requires such commitment. For I know of NO satsangi who can claim he has completely gained the Goal. Thus, the extreme need for a Teacher.
Lastly, since the arrival of the World Wide Web, many sites have posted versions of what is claimed to be taught at the RSSB initiation. Beware, I can guarantee these only possess what is taught in part. And regardless, the meditation technique is much much harder to even be grasped without the deep commitment you’ve previously shared.

No CBD oil either—not any amount in any form. They gave me a three page handout on that yesterday. Apparently they have to mention that at the end of each Satsang now. The approach is largely that CBD could have long term health consequences and side effects that have not yet been determined. And that it could interfere with other prescription medications.

The true path to the Lord has no rules or regulations, no vows to take to any human being, no promises needed, no promises given. These are business contracts. A good friend never asks you to sign your friendship to them in a contract. This is a sure sign of a photocopy of something real, this business relationship, but not the real thing.

If there are none, the teacher is useless.
Imagine a university where no one ever graduated. Where you, an active attending student, have never seen the graduating class, never met a graduate student, never were proctored by an assistant professor who themselves had graduated with honors.
That can only happen in a fake school, a school that doesn’t actually teach anything useful. If you cannot master the subject, and have never met others who have, you aren’t in a real school. The teacher isn’t a real teacher.
The students of a true Saint come in and go out as they please. Their teacher is teaching their students to master their subject. And this is the qualification for their role as a teacher. That they graduate students successfully and often who have demonstrably mastered their pursuit.
But in that school there are no titles, no walls, no rules, no fees. The teacher is your friend, a True Saint.

The last Satsang my master Baba Ji gave in Petaluma, CA someone brought up marijuana use as a medicine during a Question & Answer session.
I can’t recall exactly if it was for cancer use, or other. But Baba Ji was clear on avoiding any substances that were originally coined as mind altering by previous teachers.
In the RSSB literature, can be found numerous reasons they’re to be avoided.

I have thought that for some time now, about this expansion happening at the Dera, this will be where the people flock to if there is some kind of war happening nearby.

Didn’t Charan take in refugees during one of the uprisings? I can’t remember the details. Not sure if I read about it or if someone told me.

Jagat Singh initiated some 250,000 disciples during his 3 years as Master. I imagine that GSD initiates at least that many per year. Perhaps more—a lot more. Not sure what the numbers are. But it’s not nearly as difficult to get initiated these days.
When Jagat wasn’t initiating he was in his room meditating. He subsisted on chapatis (I think that’s what killed him).
So, when Charan took over, the RSSB administration was out of control and Charan had to take control. He put people in their places pretty quickly and turned things around—he got things running smoothly once again.
Gurinder did something similar at the changing of the guard. I hope the next guru does the same thing. I hope they paint rainbows on all the buildings. People start drum circles in the park and everyone is wearing flowers in their hair. They could hang those Tibetan prayer flags, and stained glass always has a soothing effect. Perhaps they could find a place for stained glass windows.
A colorful Dera would be fun.

You don’t have to worry about whether or not you’d be accepted. That’s the one good thing about Gurinder. He doesn’t look at the applications. You just have to answer the questions correctly (and everyone knows what the right answers are). It’s not like they do a background check on you or check your medical records. And they don’t do a drug test either. You’d have to write something like “fuck you” on your application in order to actually get rejected.
It’s harder to become Catholic than to get initiated these days.
So, don’t sweat it.

That does sound like fun Sonia. Instead of sitting meditation, which I find so boring, it would be wonderful to lift our spirits with dancing and music and laughter. Oh, I do miss the flower power and fun of the New Age movement. Where is the love and joy and happiness in Satsang, instead of the stifling pretence of trying to be peaceful and perfect.

Baba Ji can easily be reached by mail correspondence. Just as Maharaj Ji attended to every letter, every question, and each suggestion, so does he.

When you make your home your Dera, and don’t need a crowd of other people to behave in a loving way for you to be inspired to feel love, then you have the best Dera of all.
If your friends are loving, and you feel loved in their presence, and turning within you bathe in love in the presence of Love, you have your Dera.
You can build peace in your self, your own home, your own community without ever having to mention God, or Spirit or any teacher. There is nothing to debate among different belief systems. Those are mental constructions.
But if you need someone else to build that for you, not realizing it’s already there inside you, where you live, then you must confront ego and politics, and organization building. Because other folks have their own ideas. So you can also look at the Deras of these large organizations to see how organizations are the death of spirituality. No True Saint wastes their time building them.
They have much more important work to do.

Dera is not bricks and morter. And there isn’t one single square millimeter of land in this earth worth fighting over.
The place of real action, peace and harmony is within, not out here. This physical world is derivative and in its limited portions, divisive.
But the inner worlds are infinite, this is where your true home is and in fact where you actually spend all your time, but watching the TV show that is this physical reality.
So why not turn off the TV for a while and enjoy where you really are? It’s your home. Might as well pay some attention to it, make friends of your neighbors there, and enjoy it. You have a number of pathways there to some truly stunning places.

Sonia I’m sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about. I have applied for initiation in the last 5 years twice and have been told to wait both times. And I have 2 friends who have as well. We have followed all the requirements but for other reasons (which I am not going to discuss here) have been rejected. I don’t think you really know what you write on this blog and you are quite negative. Educate yourself and lighten up.

I’ll send off a quick letter with suggestions for the Dera. I mean, I know not everything is about me but maybe he’s actually looking for some creative suggestions (inset I’m an idiot face emoji here).
Intellectually I know I’m not the center of the universe. Emotionally I’m not there yet. But it’s pretty cool he’s got a suggestion box. 🙃

What I mean is, I realize I come across to a lot of people as being full of myself. Personally, I think my problem is I’m overly expressive and forget that other people aren’t as interested in my opinions. HOWEVER, I’m also interested in other people’s opinions and stories and experiences as much as… even more than my own. But I’ve noticed most people seem to be more comfortable discussing their ideas than personal stuff. And that’s cool too. Probably a lot more mature.

I disagree. It’s not the size of the organization. A true teacher
may work alone or with multitudes. With big organizations. Or
smalI. Ishwar Puri held a position in the Indian civil service with
hundreds working for him. The outer busyness is child’s play
when the attention is firmly anchored inside.
Spiritual organizations can remain miniature or grow large.
Attention can become scattered in either case. Or not.
The power of disciplined attention is limitless.

So far in my research I have not found a single religious or spiritual or philosophical organization that doesn’t have many opponents with loads of criticism.
I find this disheartening. How is one ever to find the “truth”? How is one ever to find the right path. It seems as if nothing can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

The truth doesn’t exist as far as motivation is concerned.
There is not such a thing as the most tasty apple pie in the world.
Replace the word “apple pie” by whatever you like.
When one gets the opportunity to discuss the difference between this and that path, with an teacher of such an path, invariable they will tell you that they can instruct you in whatever they are doing, and that they know nothing about other paths.
So the answer to this type of dillema’s lies not in the streets where the sun shines and there is more light but INSIDE, not in finding whether this or that teacher and his teaching is correct, but in finding out what it is that you want to invest your life in.
There are not “the best ever” wives, husbands, parents, jobs etc e etc.

Sonia if there is no punishment . Why are we still here. I think we are all in a lot of trouble. I trust my gut after all I have seen.

Spencer wrote Georgy wouodnt judge as he has not seen a real saint. Nor have you Spencer loool. Georgy is learning you think you are the master . That’s the difference. In fact Georgy is way ahead of you already my friend .

Karim – Yep that’s the way I understand it , exactly as you describe – I can’t put it any better than you have. Maybe for some who are more aligned to the lifestyle it’s easier – but for me it’s 180 degree shift. It would be like climbing Everest, maybe harder but the benefits are potential huge. In all honesty, I reckon I’ve probably drowned more alcohol in 1 night than Sonia’s entire ‘alcholic’ binge episode combined – still best to keep her on her toes and boxing-fit in case she hits the sauce again – not good.
Jen – it’s not really about a support group or meeting others for me, but I can see how that might appeal to others. I’m not really new-age so I probably wouldn’t really fit into the hippy thing, but I don’t really begrudge those who like it. Far as I can tell the world would be a better place with more genuine hippies in it – I’m just not one. From RS, I’d be looking to get personal inner spiritual insights, rather than peace of mind, social transformations or group parties or social gatherings.
Arjuna – coming from you v much appreciated , but don’t worry about defending me. Let’s see just how saintly they are – let them let it out.

Hi Arjuna,
I meant in the sense that outside of time there is no past or future. We are all residing in Time and meditation is what takes us out of that more and more as we practice. Call it what you want—Surat Shabd Yoga or Living in the Now.
Time is an illusion but feels very real to us. The end of time has already happened but we’re still living in “the illusion of the past” so to speak.
I guess my point is, there’s no guilt as long as you’re doing your meditation. Do what you can each day and know that you are doing your best. Then there’s no need to regret anything you’ve said or done in the past or even worry about what you may or may not have done in past lives.
In reality, the Master is all about forgiveness (I think he tries to keep this a secret for some reason). That’s what meditation and Darshan are all about. You’ve read all they say about Darshan.
So, if you are happy to stick with Sant Mat then just remember those two things and don’t let guilt or fear take control of your life there’s no need.
I think there must be many paths that lead to the One. And if you feel more comfortable with Sant Mat, you can look at it that way so that you are freed from any “self loathing”. Besides, not living yourself is like not loving God. It’s kind of ridiculous when you think about it. 🙂
I just want you to be happy and not be so hard on yourself. Life is short… doesn’t always feel that way but it is.
GSD doesn’t talk about forgiveness (well he doesn’t use the word) but the truth is initiation is all about wiping away past karmas and Darshan… well they say that can clear a multitude of sins.
Anyway, I’m taking a rare objective moment to defend Sant Mat because I think it resonates with you despite your occasional issues on the path. And it’s important to have something… you’re a good person.

On a side note: I still thing there’s a bit of a class/caste system at the Dera. And I don’t like it. Just sayin…

I had to cancel my trip to Dera because of my health. And then I was thinking after I wrote that comment to Arjuna and after my husband’s experience that maybe I should try to go just for Darshan… see if it fixes things. Because there doesn’t seem to be any amount of words that can make sense of all that’s happened. I don’t know… maybe I’ll just write a letter but the chances of it actually getting to him are slim to none. However, occasionally he does read them.
