RSSB: DATING CESSPOOL TOXIC
Anon here. As someone who spent a lot of time in Western centres, I saw a fair amount of people’s love lives. I can only comment on RSSB in the Western world and I don’t know about India/Dera. I will say this: I feel really sorry for the people there, especially the females.
RSSB AND MARRIAGE
RSSB is known for promoting marriage.
However, if a lucky couple comes together, RSSB does nothing – you’re on your own. Do whatever your religion says, if you want a ceremony. This is pretty rich for a spiritual organisation which promotes marriage and then does nothing to celebrate it. (It’s the same for funerals by the way, or births, or anything. RSSB just takes your free unpaid labour aka ‘seva’ but when it’s your moment – they do nothing. It’s very one sided).
MANIPULATION
There’s no formal situation or process. RSSB people do go to RSSB to find a RSSB partner, which is understandable.
From what I saw widespread over many years – there was absolutely no dignity at RSSB.
I don’t mean people just hooking up (although I’m sure that must happen here like anywhere else). During my time there I didn’t see any kindness, equality, transparency, fairness, love at all. I barely saw any RSSB values in place.
All I ever saw was the exploitation and manipulation of women.
HOW IT HAPPENS
I originally believed it was a mismatch of cultural values. I thought it was a clash of Eastern values (e.g the arranged marriages/matchmaking) and modern Western values (dating, boyfriend-girlfriend). However when I looked closer, I realised it was always mainly the same pattern of manipulation, usually by the RSSB men.
I would always see men meeting women at RSSB and getting into a Western style courtship (talking, dating, become boyfriend-girlfriend). The women were often expecting it to grow into something serious and permanent. I’d hear them talking about their ‘Big Indian Wedding’ and their ‘future husband’ with such excitement (no doubt led on by the guy himself). However it never materialised.
Suddenly Eastern values appeared. Suddenly the family had to approve. Every time, the family would get involved and mostly just shut it down. I saw a lot of this in Western RSSB centres – the men were just using the women within a Western courtship with the false promise of Something Serious which never happened. Ironically this was usually because they didn’t follow Eastern courtship (e.g. family decision making, family approval, doing Western things like dating and being in a relationship).
The poor woman would be left upset, sad, with a ruined reputation every time whenever it ended, however it ended – the man was always unscathed. The man often just moved onto the next one fairly quickly.
RSSB DOUBLE STANDARDS
You might say ‘this can happen anywhere’. But RSSB is:
A spiritual path
The centre of the Perfect Living Guru
People who are spiritually marked souls and spiritually elevated people
People who are seeking heaven/Sach Khand
People who are trying to clear bad karma
I was astounded at the huge double standards in the community.
I was also confused why the lovely RSSB women even got suckered into a Western courtship when Eastern courtship is ‘required’.
I was confused why any of them would want these RSSB men – who clearly weren’t good people at all.
I was astounded how RSSB belief is ‘stop creating bad karma’ meanwhile the men were consistently deliberately manipulating and exploiting women.
I was astounded how these RSSB men even engaged with RSSB women in Western relationships knowing the importance of Eastern traditions like family approval and reputations.
I was astounded at how their families would just let it all happen and then step in much later.
I was astounded at how they just demonised the women and never challenged the mens’ behaviour.
I was astounded how everyone assumed the woman had slept with the boy.
I was astounded how the women’s reputation was damaged, never the men.
I was astounded that the boys could just jump to the next one and repeat the cycle with no consequences.
I was astounded how this could happen in a tight knit interconnected spiritual community where everyone knows each other and has to continue to meet each other there – most of these people have built their entire life (and especially their social life) around RSSB.
The whole thing was insane.
RSSB POSITION
RSSB never said or did anything about this which was surprising for such a small interconnected community. As a result, it is a cesspool where everyone had basically been with everyone else at some point. It was largely just a game of ‘musical chairs’ and sadly at the girls’ expense.
RSSB says nothing about any of this, because there is no formal service. There is no ‘singles night’ or ‘matchmaking service’ or ‘app’. It’s just the community doing it’s thing out in the open unofficially. But RSSB is able to claim total ignorance and say ‘we didn’t authorise this’ and the Guru has often said ‘this is a spiritual place not a matchmaking bureau’. However it’s reasonable for such a strict path which promotes marriage that RSSB people will seek a RSSB partner. RSSB men exploit this as it ensures there is no accountability and consequences for manipulating and exploiting women.
EXCEPTIONS
Sometimes there was Big Indian Wedding – but this was only when the family approved from the start and approved their ‘western courtship’ e.g. dating etc.
In some rare cases, the poor couple would elope and get married in secret. This would always lead to some sort of family excommunication and/or exile. Sometimes the rift healed over a long period of time and sometimes it never did.
There were also however plenty of failed engagements. Sometimes a compatibility issue. Sometimes it was also the boy still just manipulating and exploiting the girl with no real intentions ever.
I remember a quote from GSD who was quoting Charan: ‘Just because somebody is RSSB doesn’t mean you should trust them in business. They may be RSSB but they may not follow RSSB values in business.’ It’s honestly the same for dating, romance, love, marriage, matchmaking. It’s the same for affairs of the heart, not just business affairs.
If anyone says ‘well all this can happen anywhere’. YES, INCLUDING AT RSSB.
This is the type of scenario which people warn others about as a ‘worst case scenario’ in matters of the heart. At RSSB it is just standard behaviour (at least in the Western centres).

Actually, RS promotes abstinence, even in marriage. Weird, but I guess the vows are something like a koan to make us examine our our own fiber and find ways to rearrange it. Anon is actually blaming RSSB for all the ills of humanity.
They are free to adhere to a religion based culture if they think that helps. Or to a secular culture, or to an Atheist culture. None of these are a real safety net at all.
All the manipulation and abuse they speak of are in most all cultures. And the only real safety net is better discrimination, the ability to use one’s own voice, and any practice that helps develop both. Freedom of choice comes with a greater demand on these personal skills.
RSSB only has a single standard to live to the highest moral standards: It is a vow every Satsangi takes.
But as human beings none of us are perfect, and we bring our own imperfections into Sant Mat. And that’s OK, too. Sant Mat is a school to help learn how to live to a higher standard. That works when you understand that you are there to rise above your own tendencies, to fight the battle within over your own lower tendencies. Therefore its members are in some state of getting from A to B, corrupt to pure. Just like everywhere else in society.
Sant Mat provides the best possible way to do this. Not as a show or pretense but as a reality. Because all the orthodox social conventions that Anon thinks are helpful are actually covers to protect abusers.
The path of the Satsangi is very much an individual path between soul and Master. That’s a longer path. Even the abuser will face themselves and have no means of escape when they work to live the vows they took.
They won’t be able to blame the lack of a marriage ceremony or the presence of a Hindu lifestyle on their own shortcomings. And neither should Anon.

I never dated or married a satsangi. Although both my wife and long time girlfriend were both vegetarians, they didn’t follow any gurus. I was their guru.
