Open Thread 30 (free speech for comments)

Here's a new Open Thread.

Remember, off-topic comments should go in an Open Thread.

This hasn't been happening recently, as some commenters have been using blog posts as a "chat room," basically, so from now on I'm going to vow to do better at not approving comments submitted on a regular blog post if the comment doesn't deal with the subject of the post.

If you don't see a recent comment, or comments, posted, it's because you've failed to follow the above rule. Keep to the subject of a blog post if you leave a comment on it. And if you want to use this blog as a "chat room," do that in an open thread.

As noted before, it's good to have comments in a regular blog post related to its subject, and it's also good to have a place where almost anything goes in regard to sharing ideas, feelings, experiences, and such. That place is an Open Thread.

Leave a comment on this post about anything you want to talk about. Remember that I'm moderating comments, so it could take a while for your comment to be published. Almost every comment submitted to an Open Thread will be approved. Personal attacks on someone are an exception. Argue with ideas, not insults.

Though I haven't been doing too well on this, I'll try to remember to always have an Open Thread showing in the Recent Posts section in the right sidebar. If one isn't showing, I've added an Open Threads category in, naturally, the Categories section. You can always find an Open Thread that way.

So if you're a believer in some form of religion, mysticism, or spirituality, this is where you can put your "praise God," "praise Guru," or "praise _______" comments.

We are surfing. The board is narrow. The sea wide and moving. Our track changes moment by moment. But we can feel our way along. We can sense the enormity. We can learn to see how the swell rises and moves. We watch the lines. We find our moment. We paddle up and join with the crest, and enter the lead. Yes we are leading. But the enormity chasing behind us demands a narrow path. And a complete focus on our spot right now. We position for the next step, but it is always the position we assume right now that determines that. The wave does the rest. Now, now, now. It’s never anything else. But we dream of the next place we want to be. Not an ambitious dream. We can’t dream too far out. If we wish to keep going. Surfers on all sides and sizes in the water attest to the fact that falling is just a normal part of it. They all have their wet suits on. Choices. Choices. Some better, some worse. And that moment of connection might as well be a steel track, because there is on either side the opportunity to fall. And yet, within that narrow track there is a small latitude. The sea helps us stay on track, so long as we don’t do anything stupid. We are in a relationship with a great and silent teacher. A shift in weight and we alter course, we can choose a wider path. Where to go next? Slight left? Or slight left left? We steer with the weight in the bottoms of our feet. Our very loose connection to the wave, to the earth. It’s not even a connection. But we are connected. It’s the only way we can stay afloat. And align the rest of our body weight to match our feet.

Thought I’d kick-off this new thread with a description of ‘Being a Taoist’. Not that I am a Taoist but the descriptions are at the same time fun – and perhaps relevant.
If you describe yourself as “spiritual but not religious”… you might be a Taoist.
If you think that less government is better… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 57,58, 59 & 60)
If you believe that you can behave ethically without religious guidelines… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 19)
If you think that people should spend less time worrying about the meaning of life and more time living it… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 20, 46 & 48)
If you see yourself as just another part of the natural world, like a bird, or a rock, or a stream… you might be a Taoist.
If you’re content with the fact that you’re not a supernatural being, that when you die the chemical reaction sustaining your life ends and your atoms return to the universe. In fact, if you believe that you never really were separate from the universe so there is no returning to do… you might be a Taoist.
If you don’t believe that there’s an all-powerful, all-knowing god who listens to everyone’s prayers and responds to only those he deems worthy… you might be a Taoist.
If you’re an agnostic or an atheist… you might actually be a Taoist.
If you think Thoreau should have just said, “Simplify.” (instead of “Simplify, simplify.”)… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 46, 48 &80)
If you think that all religious fundamentalists are nuts… you might be a Taoist.
If you think less money should be spent on crushing our enemies and more on making them our friends… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 30 & 46)
If you prefer the gentle peace of Tai Chi to the kicking and punching of Tae Kwon Do… you might be a Taoist.
If you understand that good and evil are human, not divine, definitions… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 5)
If you like Benjamin Hoff’s “The Tao Of Pooh”… you might be a Taoist.
If you believe that no one, no religion, no philosopher, no charismatic leader knows the true answer… you might be a Taoist.
If you don’t believe that you have done anything that you need salvation for… you might be a Taoist.
If you believe in living in the moment, not dwelling on the past, or worrying about the future… you might be a Taoist.
If you can see that by defining beauty you have defined what is ugly… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 2)
If you try not be one of the “people being persuaded to spend money they don’t have on things they don’t need to create impressions that won’t last on people they don’t care about”… you might be a Taoist. (Verses 44, 46 & 48)
If you don’t believe in divinely inspired miracles, only amazing coincidences… you might be a Taoist.
If you can be a leader without trying to be in charge… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 10, 17, 58 & 59)
If you prefer NPR over Fox News… you might be a Taoist. 😉
If your definition of creationism is that man created gods… you might be a Taoist.
If you prefer to “go with the flow”, slipping like water around all types of physical and mental obstacles… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 8)
If you know when you have enough and you don’t need a lot… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 9&46)
If you think that groups that preach acceptance and then exclude large sections of humanity from joining them are hypocrites… you might be a Taoist.
If you know that you have a better understanding of what your spiritual needs are than some (self-)proclaimed holy man… you might be a Taoist.
If you’re a vegan or vegetarian or a tree-hugging environmentalist… you might be a Taoist.
If you have a hard time reconciling proven historic and scientific facts with contradictory stories passed down by uneducated superstitious desert dwellers, edited and re-edited by generations of religious and government leaders for their own benefit, constantly quoted out of context by followers with their own agendas, about a god who’s described as jealous, petty, indecisive, and ruthless, having murdered millions, including admittedly innocent victims… you might be a Taoist.
If you believe that “whatever happens, just happens”… you might be a Taoist.
If you love your fellow earthlings (human and non), just want to see us all get along and quit harming the planet… you might be a Taoist.
If you value others not only for their similarities but for their differences… you might be a Taoist.
If you think that if someone doesn’t approve of gay marriage, then they shouldn’t have one… you might be a Taoist.
If you believe that the laws of nature work better and make more sense than alleged “holy” laws… you might be a Taoist.
If you can see that the true path to enlightenment can only be found within you, that any human being who claims to know your path is lying… especially if they’re asking for donations… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 1)
If you get that the hawk is not evil because she kills the chicken, the hawk is just being a hawk… you might be a Taoist.
If you have a hard time believing that a just and perfect god would punish a whole country by sending a hurricane to destroy good and bad alike… you might be a Taoist.
If you can see that you are living the perfect life for you, in a perfectly designed universe… you might be a Taoist.
If you understand that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step… you might be a Taoist. (Verse 64)
    In short…
If you can conceive of an unnameable infinite power (call it Tao) that has always existed, that powers the universe, holds molecules together, makes the flowers bloom, birds sing, your heart beat, allows some things to evolve while others don’t, allows the sun to shine and rain to fall on both the good and the evil, all without putting any demands on the recipients or having the need to be worshiped or even acknowledged… then you might be a Taoist. (Verse 25 & 34)

    @ Turan
You are not born to be the sun of your parents, the brother, nephew, uncle to the rest of the family. Neither are you born to befriend anything or anybody, let alone offer your live for an ideal, country, religious belief or being a called a taoist.
    But …..
Being alive you have to deal with all these things and if so you are advised to make the best of it.
I often had to clean the floor of the kitchen of my families food business … I did it as good as i could and as swift as possible, so that i was released of the ties and free again, having no interest whatsoever what they would think or feel.
To remain free is to be alive, to be human also.
He said … do your duties as {naming the different roles I had to play] … but … don’t get emotionally involved in these ties nor the persons involved.

  5. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
    You write
“I often had to clean the floor of the kitchen of my families food business … I did it as good as i could and as swift as possible, so that i was released of the ties and free again, having no interest whatsoever what they would think or feel.”
I clean the toilet in my place until it glows and sparkles with an almost angelic radiance.and if angels had scents, my clean toilet exudes it. And not just because I like a clean toilet. I like comfortable guests. I like guests to be pleased with how nice things are. I like that a lot.

  6. Spence Tepper

And when we all took an old chartered bus to see Gurinder, I volunteered to clean the bus toilet. It was a long journey. I cleaned it five or six times a day. I sat in back just waiting to clean it again.
    It was my pleasure.

  7. Spence Tepper

In fact it was one of the easiest and simplest things I could do for my brothers and sisters. It was nothing. Life is difficult. Why make it worse with a dirty toilet?
But a gleaming, perfumed toilet? Takes maybe a minute or two. Takes nothing. Takes next to zero effort.
But the comfort it provides others? Can’t be measured.
To really help the world in some big way, that’s out of reach. But I’m not helpless. I can help in a way people really like. I can do something. And it’s so so simple and easy.
The fact it’s so simple and so nice, it’s just pure pleasure.

  8. Spence Tepper

So how come something that takes very little skill and nearly zero time can become a source of pleasure, even pride? Because no one else wants to do it!
These are the treasures. Next to zero effort.
When you perform some great athletic feat, or some great intellectual accomplishment you can feel proud that you did what no one else could do. It may have taken your whole life and every thing you had in skill and will.
But it’s nearly the same feeling when you do what no one else wants to do, but which everyone on earth wants done!
    Bargain of the century.
    It’s like hidden treasure.

  9. Spence Tepper

And now I have real admiration when I see a guy in the public men’s room cleaning up all the time, the toilets, the urinals, sinks, leaving out a couple of bottles of cologne, offering you a clean towel to dry your hands, a bottle of mouthwash near the sink with paper cups, dressed in black slacks, white shirt and a black vest. Such pride. He gets a big tip.
I get why he loves the work.
And he has every reason to love it. It’s clean, useful and helpful work.

  10. Um

    @ spence
Chains can be of iron but lso of gold and a prison can be a class or b class … whatever they look like, in the end they take your freedom away.
To remain free is to be alive, to be human also.
He said … do your duties as {naming the different roles I had to play] … but … don’t get emotionally involved in these ties nor the persons involved.
“The smile” on the faces of others can be addictive and become a curse.
For that reason Christ must have said that one hand should not Know from the other hand what it does for worse things can befall one. Other colleagues of Christ have issued the same warning in other words.
It was my duty as son to obey may parents. If it was cleaning, I cleaned. I never sought their praise, it just didn’t matter. When the job was finished I could attend again to my own life in freedom.
Our parents cared for their children and there was no need to do anything for them to change their attitude towards their children… so cleaning floors was just an duty and not a means to please them, it was simple not necessary to please them.

  11. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
No need to justify what you wrote. No need to paraphrase Charan or Jesus or amend your interpretation.
You may be living exactly as they intended, whatever that is. You are most certainly living as you intend.
And that can be different for different people.
Joy is going to be part of each person’s life, as is sadness, each in their own proportion. And while it is interesting to see where that fulcrum of balance lay for each individual, it is not going to be in the same place.
Be happy with the indifference you cherish. That is yours. It is what makes you who you are. It may be an improvement on sadness. It may give you the strength to live exactly as you wish. Sadness can change us. Compassion that breaks our heart can move us in a different direction. So I understand how indifference may, therefore, be a source of happiness. But it is no wiser than joy in simple things, joy even in pleasing others. That arises naturally in some people also. It’s His gift too.
And the sadness that compels us to stop and become soft, stop and accommodate, apologize and make amends, there is great joy and wisdom in that also.

  12. Um

    @ Spence
It has nothing to do with indifference …. those who are happy need not to dance to be happy and those who are sad do not need to cry, to express their feelings.
And … those who care, need not to do anything, for that love to radiate from them.
You are free to use other words for caring.
And for guests to feel at home, there is no need to clean toilets.
The use of his words is simple explained, in that what they convey cannot be said in simpler and easier to understand ways….they were given to me to use and as a tool to live by.
So again … do your duties but don’t get emotionally involved as xxxx, yyyy but don’t get emotionally involved in these ties nor the persons involved.

Bath rooms have to be clean in order to function well, they are not made to arouse emotions, compliments … musea or nature are better suited for that purpose.
I am not born to make people happy … neither unhappy ofcourse… but … some re-act with happiness and others with the opposite on my actions … it is up to them.
It reminds me of my dad, peace be upon his soul if he had one. He was not much of a talker. One day he called me and said … Be aware of those who make you compliments when the join your table for diner. On seeing my surprised face he added … don’t you understand?! … those who do are easily not to be trusted and have an hypocritical bend of mind. When I asked him what made him think so het said … look those who are hungry, first eat and from their way of eating you can see what it does to them.
Good things do no need to be applauded.

Absolutely bang on but not easy to achieve.

  17. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
I understand where your distrust comes from.
And your disinterest in pleasing or serving anyone.
But when it comes to progress that must be overcome.
We must stay focused on other’s strengths, however hidden they may be. They must be nurtured to grow. And at some point, spend our entire life on others.
The True Saint has no concern for their own growth. They are fully grown already.
But every good gardener, even one for hire, is passionate to help the garden grow.
The seedlings born in darkness, thinking this is life, need a little water and sunlight. Then as you say, the rest happens automatically. But it’s a combination of seed, soil, water and Gardner. The seed has little say. To the seed, thinks just happen. This is of some amusement to the gardener. But as a sapling, that’s right. Just stay put, stay out of trouble and grow from within!
The Gardener always has their hands full. Absolutely full, 24 x 7. No end of work in the service to the landlord.
But each of us is cut out for our particular work.

  18. Um

    @ Wise owl
That is right … it is not that easy
As long as the truth of the statement is not caught it is maybe impossible even
… and … than it that takes time put it into practice.
Personally I doubt if one can practice it at all, it has to came natural.
Probably he was right when he said that cream floats natural on the milk if left alone.
It is strange and becomes even more stranger writing here day by day, now the obligation, the desire an what other things that walk around in a persons mind, compelling one to be a “good” stasangi or even to be an satsangi at all, have faded out over time.
Food has to be tasted, eaten and digested … not discussed.

  19. um

    @ Spence
In nature there is no need for a gardener.
The gardener makes himself indispensable by first depriving plants from their natural environment and possibilities of growth.
Naturally if a person puts himself in the position of the “gardener” he has to suffer the consequences.
    >>I understand where your distrust comes from. >And your disinterest in pleasing or serving anyone. << doing ones duties, is impossible without first proper investigation of what is needed in given situation. These duties are by necessity an service and often pleasing too an consequence. But pleasing and serving as a goal or means is something else

“We must stay focused on other’s strengths, however hidden they may be. They must be nurtured to grow. And at some point, spend our entire life on others.”
Crikey! I do enjoy reading all these different viewpoints and at the same time observing the different ways people think and act. Spence says in the above comment how to help others and I realise that this is his mission in life because he is helping others in his daily life and hospital work.
Makes me realise how complicated and different people are. My practice in life is very different to the ‘service to others’ type attitude. Zen is about acknowledging and exploring feelings of emptiness within one’s self, watching and being aware, also being calm and kind to self and others. Letting go is my mantra. Maybe emptiness helps as a defence mechanism, especially for an empath, to not feel the pain and suffering of the world by replacing it with some kind of ‘void’.

  23. Spence Tepper

    Hi Jen
It’s a gift to have solitude.

If you can be at home in that emptiness, comfortable in it, live in it, on bed terms with it, intimate with it, then you have mastered the greatest source of fear in the world.
    You have conquered the enemy.

Sometimes I wonder what it would actually take to shock people on this blog. I mean, I’ve tried as hard as I can here but hardly get any pushback. 😂
I spend my life observing and analyzing people and I can say for certain this is a very unique and interesting group of commenters…

  26. Sonia Taylor

Most of what I say is sincere but a lot of my comments are just for shock value. I want to see how people are going to react to certain ideas and concepts.
But you guys… you’re a tough crowd. It’s like you’re all veteran witnesses of bizarre and crazy behavior.
I guess that’s why I enjoy this blog so much.

  27. Sonia Taylor

I’m really starting to believe that if you took all the regular commenters on this blog and put them in front of an alien ship that had just landed, they wouldn’t even have a look of shock on their faces. I think they’d just start debating whether or not the spaceship was really there and then go into some debate about the validity of quantum physics and the engineering it would take to build such a space ship. All this while aliens were deplaning and trying to get their attention. But they wouldn’t be interested in the aliens because they’d still be debating String Theory, the Theory of Everything and stuff like that.
    🤣🤣🤣

Regarding the Tao again. Perhaps because any originating causal agent is beyond the ability of a simple thinking organism – us. I like the fact that we cannot use it, cannot make of it a commodity, cannot make it into a mind object to enhance the ego/self. Our numerous opinions and comments here (including this one), probably serve to maintain our egos, our self structures – but thankfully you cannot do this with Tao.
    The Tao te Ching states:-
Soundless and formless, it depends on nothing and does not change.
It operates everywhere and is free from danger.
It may be considered the mother of the universe.

  38. Jen

“Lao-Tzu (also known as Laozi or Lao-Tze) was a Chinese philosopher credited with founding the philosophical system of Taoism. He is best known as the author of the Tao-Te-Ching, the work which exemplifies his thought. The name by which he is known is not a personal name but an honorific title meaning `Old Man’ or `Old Teacher’ and there has been countless speculation as to whether an individual by that name ever existed or whether Lao-Tzu is an amalgam of many different philosophers.”
Every morning I start my day with the I Ching, the ancient book of Chinese wisdom, using the Chinese oracle coins.
I’m glad that I experienced the “New Age Movement” in the 1970s. There was a very strong feeling of freedom and love and laughter and flower power etc. I also was initiated by Charan in the 70’s.
I notice in today’s world that people are not that interested in mysticism and seem to be very serious and logical. As an old gal now I miss those magical times.

Myth – a widely held but false belief or idea. Thus myths have no place for me.

  42. Turan

    Hi Steve.
As far as the words/terms you mentioned in your query of Tao, if they refer to something, an idea or concept then that is not Tao. As far as I know, Logos is the nearest to Tao as it refers to a/the controlling principle of the Universe – or God! Tao literally translated is the ‘way’. But in Taoist terms it is the unconditional and ‘unknowable’ source and guiding principle of all reality which is why the quote I first mentioned states ‘I do not know its name, I call it Tao.’
I prefer (indeed cannot) name this wonder that we call life. Just to acknowledge that it is, is enough – and in the Taoist, Buddhist or Zen sense check out who/what is doing the investigating – and why.
I doubt whether a simple evolved organism like ourselves which believes in its own self grandeur is capable (or necessary) to understand any original causal agent of this life and universe. Our ego, our thinking brain denies this perhaps because it is too uncomfortable for us not to know and confront our limitations.

    Hi Jen
I love the list and believe it 100%. That is my belief.
All the true Saints I’ve met meet those criteria.

  56. Spence Tepper

    Hi Trevor
    You write
“You mean GIHF? Like your masters Huzur and GSD?”
Yes. And more. True Saints do not call themselves Saints or even Masters. They don’t allow anyone ever to call them by any honorific or title. Every title is a barrier. Every title is a competition with God, intervening between us and the divine.
They encourage us to spend time with nature, because the divine is in everthing and everyone, and quite visible to the innocent, or trained eye, the sensitive eye. Some children can see it. An adult needs to be trained.
They see that everyone is a puppet, and they are intimate with the one who made the one pulling the strings.
    True Saints have no titles.
But some of us need authorized teachers and authorities. We have lost our sensitivity to what is happening within us and around us, and how everthing happening around us is a reflection of what is happening within us, and so we need some method to reconnect.
For those, we get stage actor Gurus. But good stage actors point to the same thing, the true Saints, and the one Lord. They have a level of purity, a level of understanding, and represent a stage of our development. They are mostly an informed, enlightened projection of our own need. But that is ok, because that need is a real need, not to be denegrated, but to be honored as real and persued as our own sacred journey, the journey and purpose of our tiny but important life.
The problem is that the rich stage actors are impure, to some lesser or greater degree, just like the rest of us. They have a level of wisdom intermixed with lust, anger, greed, attachment and pride. Their role often requires a mighty ego, to wield power, to control an organization. We are impressed that they are as pure as they are.
But the True Saints have mastered the ability to live without needing any of that baggage. They do not have divided interests. They aren’t actually centered here. Their office is a different place. And that is where their values are too. They are the ultimate role models of a simple, singular life of devotion, absolutely pure, spotless, free of corruption, completely humble. This is why people in general, covered in rust, burdened under iron shakles, can’t see them.
Not to say the true Saints don’t have all the same challenges and temptations of this biochemical body; the stresses of membership in society, and the duties of job and family.
But they have mastered those same tendancies and duties with the greater power of Spirit within them, by simply not existing in this body. That is why they are not affected by these things. They are the expression of that power and use it daily to clean the mind they must use here to function, to live basically in the highest regions within full time, and merely function here as a part time thing.
Find one of them. They are in every land. Then they will become your standard.

    “whatever THEY do,
    always out. of kal’s scope”
True Saints never like to violate the laws of this place, and they model living within the laws.
The stage actor Gurus have divided interests and violate the laws here all the time, in their own personal interests, exploiting their authority, doing what they would never advocate for their followers.
Their followers are constantly burdened with justifying these excesses, denying it, making claims their guru is above the law. It’s atractive because it gives the followers permission, they think, to indulge in similar excesses. However, the very act of justifying burdens their own subconscious mind, their own conscience, making inner progress divided, weakened, and limited by that very burden.
The creator of the laws doesn’t break them. He or she honors them. Every jot of the law. Every comma and period, every “i” dotted, every “t” crossed.
The true Saints are the role models of how to live without harm.
But the followers of the stage actors must always make excuses for the harm the stage actors inevitably cause. And this harms inner focus, inner progress by creating a subconscious division. Because at some hidden level they can’t allow themselves to acknowledge, they know it’s wrong.

This rationale you suggest is childish at best.
    Unless you claim:
God himself revealed that these are the categories and that physical appearance/ state, life (stle) led, ought to be the deciding factor.
Btw, there can only be two categories – complete masters (aka true masters/saints) or incomplete master and do you have the bandwidth to distinguish between the two? Well….. But you are welcome to your views.

When an innocent child says what they see we don’t say the child judges. They are just speaking what they see. But adults teach that child to be silent. Or to say different words. The adults teach that child about self – interest. And about judging.
Adults who have no problem opining night and day in their own self – interest tell that child not to judge, who has no capacity to judge. But in truth neither do the adults.

    You wrote
“Wow….. Awesome categorisation. All on the basis of outward appearances, titles, life(style) they lead.”
To lead a simple life of no titles, and no distractions, dedicated to the Spirit.
To serve others while taking full responsibility for oneself.
To be kind through and through, generous, gentle, meek, but steadfast in devotion.
To live lean, on limited means, and yet happy in all circumstances, in reasonable comfort, a small footprint, a life of no harm, no burden.
A loving father, son, brother, sister, daughter, mother. A loving friend.
A dedicated employee but never a boss.
Attentive, with no other time demands. A purposefully small life.
    Singular in love.
    No hint of anger.
No hint of greed, no interest in acquisition, refusing every source of authority or fame.
Infinitely patient, and Infinitely listening, interested.
Having confidence in God and good work, but giving credit away entirely to God and all others. Living wisely out of the spotlight, but always helping others to have their moments there. Enjoying vicariously the success of others. Submitting all the time to God, and through God, all their friends. Bending very low.
Bending to the ground to feed those around them and the entire world. A tree laden with fruit, full, ready for the harvest, burdened with fruit, anxious to give.
If you knew such a one your standards would change.
First, you would become ashamed. Then you would want to live in that atmosphere of love all the time. Then to become nothing, to become your friend.
You would see pride, avarice, impatience in the stage actors are weaknesses. You would recognize the show they are putting on. And you would prefer your Friend who wears no masks, who is transparent.
But you could only know this because of your association with a True Saint. And your recognition of these barriers to love, and to life, within yourself.
The true Saint inspires you, not to hate yourself for being less, but to love that you are a seed germinating in love and kindness. That the source, Nam, Word, is abundant within you. And then in the simplicity of their company, you experience it. It’s just you and them. No crowds.
Instead of finding inspiration in the stupidity and ignorance you judge in questioners; the clever insults of the guru’s reply; and the laughter of the audience; you would become ashamed to find yourself enjoying that form of vivisection, and turn and never go back.
But all that happens when you see and understand the true Saint.
I might insult you with these words. I might be an affront to your beliefs.
But the True Saint would not say such things at all. And that is why they are invisible to you, though they are around.
You have to become meek and submissive to that gentle voice inside yourself that you have ignored and pushed away for so long you can’t hear her anymore. You’ve got to befriend her, and then she will reveal the true Saints around you. She will bring you to them. They will come to you.
Pray for that. Pray to be so humbled, and if need be humiliated, that you are so low you can hear her and find a true Saint. She is wisdom.

  64. Spence Tepper

The true Saint will befriend you. They will invite you to their home, right here on earth. And you will have them into it home also. Many times.

But neither God nor his physical manifestation (perfect master) is bound by our concept of what or who a perfect master ought to be like and what ‘physical’ attributes and qualities he should display. He can manifest as Kabir the Weaver or Ravidas the Cobbler or even Jeff Bezos worth a $140bln+ . It’s His wish.

Rather than attempt to mind read or project your own approach onto me, may I suggest you would be better served taking an inquisitive strategy?
    Something like this…
‘Spence, I don’t believe any of the shit you wrote. I believe my own shit. But just out of curiosity, to go maybe a microscopic degree beyond my own shit, which by the way I consider a waste of time, and hate doing, just what is the basis for your descriptions of the True Saints? I won’t pretend to have that answer, since I don’t know you, can’t read your mind, and I don’t pretend I’m all knowing… ”
And my answer wold be that the answer was already contained above.
When you meet such a person, your standards will change. It is because I have that I write as I do. Without that association I would not have written those things. I would have no experience to base those statements upon. But it is only association. I’m not inventing the weather. I’m just describing what I’ve witnessed.
There is no other way. So just be receptive and let life be your teacher. Submit to life, honor life.
If you don’t believe such people exist, then for you they won’t. If you want to find such a friend and are humble before creation, before the divine in yourself, truly submit to the divine in earnest, then the curtain will be pulled back. You will do the pulling, and the True Saints will be right there.
Your job is not to belittle different views from your own. nor to swallow them. It is to use them to investigate your own thinking. And your experience. Have you met anyone yet who even comes close to the description I’ve given? They are out there.
Regardless of whether they have power over your soul, which they would never exercise, these are the sort of noble, devoted, inclusive, humble and kind folks in whose company we are healed and inspired to grow.

  78. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um

“Imagine some of these saints meeting each other all having that desire to be more humble than the other.”
Real humility has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s not a competition. Between you and the Lord, there is no one else. So your humility and submission is in private to the divine within yourself, and the divine you see in all others. We are serving the perfection deep within everyone.
What you have in the true Saints is universal brotherhood / sisterhood. So their humility and service is towards everyone, noble and ignoble. They are more interested in helping heal the poor and sick than spending any time at all with those in positions of power or authority. They have communion with those who are receptive. That’s where they find God’s love in abundance. And they are the servants of those who are weak, disabled, forgotten. They are the hidden bricks that hold up the entire building invisibly. They are the foundation of this creation and every other.

Since that day all worries about why some are called and others not have gone.
Some saints are here to have this creation going, set examples of doing good, make life more comfortable for fellow human beings and others show the path how to leave it all behind.

    Hi Um
    You wrote, quite beautifully
“On asking what happens to those bricks in the foundation … he, on a low voice said, that the whole building remains part and parcel of the creator.
” Since that day all worries about why some are called and others not have gone.
“Some saints are here to have this creation going, set examples of doing good, make life more comfortable for fellow human beings and others show the path how to leave it all behind.”
The True Saints are the ones keeping it going, nearly invisibly. And they are the only path home that actually works.
But they refuse any titles at all. The flags waving at the tops of the building attract many people. We all want to be there at the top.
We pass so many along the bottom who wield the entire power of creation every day. They are literally power, yet appear powerless, transparent.
And they are the true path back. But to see them, to befriend one, we sometimes need teachers to point the way. Because we have lost our intuitive capacity, because we desire things and resonate now with those things, having lost our capacity to resonate with love itself.
So we go to a play about God, and listen to actors on a stage. And we think the play is real and the actors are real. With the actor of King Lear parcels out his Kingdom to his daughters we think mistakenly that if we become friends of the actor, we too can get some of his kingdom.
But he’s just an actor. He doesn’t have that kingdom.
We look to authority, to good stage actors, though they wield no power themselves.
At some point we must understand the reality of the lesson and separate that from the actor.
Usually that is after we have met a true Saint. They become our standard. But that can only happen after we meet them. Until then we can be receptive.
The ones at the bottom are already home. They work here but they don’t live here. They are one with the divine 24/7. Their simple lives are a clue. Their consistancy, reliability, is a tell.
And when they are done, when they leave their shell here, they are already there with God, eigth region.
They are the ones with the power to take anyone back, and the only true gateway. Or more precisely, the ones who can help us go through that gate within ourselves.
Because of their humility and their near invisibility, we may not see or understand the true Saints, and so we need stage actors to learn from, to praise. We May go through several different teachers, Gurus, schools of meditation.
At some point we get a real Saint as a true friend. But they aren’t a formal teacher and have no school. Our true Friend, might actually point us to a Guru, we might be directed to go see a play and the stage actor as part of our development. A true Saint may have done that for our own progress.
But at some point we realize who the True Saint actually is.

    Hi Um
It isn’t expected that everyone would find a true Saint. The stage actors have their role to play. And their followers are happy to bow before them, to bow low, and the lower they bow, the prouder they are. Proud to serve the King on the stage. Proud to claim they have God in their pocket. With each public cry “I am nothing!” before their costumed actor on the stage, grows their pride. The height of the stage, the decibels of the speakers the measure of their pride.
But the True Saint has no authority over you. It is they who prostrate themselves before you. They give you nothing to be proud of. Just love.
    “Brother, I’ve seen some
    Astonishing sights:
    A lion keeping watch
    Over pasturing cows;
    A mother delivered
    After her son was;
    A guru prostrated
    Before his disciple;
    Fish spawning
    On treetops;
    A cat carrying away
    A dog;
    A gunny-sack
    Driving a bullock-cart;
A buffalo going out to graze,
    Sitting on a horse;
A tree with its branches in the earth,
    Its roots in the sky;
    A tree with flowering roots.
    This verse, says Kabir,
Is your key to the universe.
If you can figure it out.”

    @Sonia, Hi
    SATSANGS:
At Satsangs he is always serious. Atleast in India. So nothing new ya. The degree varies from dead serious to super dead serious when he decides to hammer us all for not attending to our meditation and highlight how ungrateful we all are to that Almighty. Not one satsang of his where I havent had to hang my head in shame. You see I am an initiate of the worst kind. Maybe this NRI begins to realise this now.
    Q&A:
Yes he has been sober during the Q&A’s since his wife’s demise. But that’s on expected lines. This kind of stands out for his behavior / responses during Q&A bordered on over-indulgence. A shocking transformation in personality from satsangs earlier in the day. Hopefully he will be back to it soon.

    Hi Jen,
I naturally assumed that to be the case.
My friend who went to the Feb session was allowed in because she left before getting the news that the session had been canceled. She’s an NRI and a little later they let some other NRIs in who arrived unaware the session was cancelled. They allowed them to stay and do seva.

  124. Sonia Taylor

I’m sure all sessions will be cancelled for the rest of 2020 and perhaps beyond for some time. Not to be all doom and gloom but this is only going to get worse before it gets better.
This is impacting everything. First of all, most of the people who attend Hostel 6 sessions are elderly. Second the airlines are struggling on so many fronts. Eventually when they say it’s safe to travel airfare will go up dramatically—much higher than we’re used to. Right now you can get tickets dirt cheap in a lot of airlines but that’s not going to last for long. Dera may have to cancel all its sessions for several years.

I also heard that they cancelled all US weekly Satsang and home Satsang meetings until further notice.

So much for using Satsang centers as a refuge for global crisis. I mean, it would help for victims of natural disasters who lost their homes, but a pandemic is another thing. Unless of course they eventually use them as temporary hospitals. Or for quarantines…
That would actually be very, very helpful. 🤔
If this virus kills .05 percent of the global population that would be approx 4 million people. Which may sound like a lot but it doesn’t live up to Biblical end of the world standards.
So, it’s NOT the end of times! 😃 We’re not all going to die!!!! Yayyyyyyyyy
That statistic just made my day. 🧟‍♀️
    This is interesting too:
Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the flu kills 290,000 to 650,000 people per year.
So, wash your hands, don’t touch people and don’t panic. And save your newspapers! Apparently there’s a global shortage of toilet paper.

No one can doubt your love of the stage actor. They are God!
But where was your love before they were crowned?
So, it is the role you are in love with. The actor as actor. The pagentry! The spectacle! Look, there passes the holy of holies!
The person behind the role means nothing to you. Does anyone really care?
Where was your love before they were assigned?
Face it. You are just loving yourself. Why not just do that?

@ When there is an actor, everyone then becomes an actor.
Maybe my reference to Shakespeare’s “The play’s the thing”
was a bit obscure. That quote comes from Hamlet who inserts
a few telltale lines in a play to elicit the truth about whether
his uncle, who’s in the audience, murdered his father.
Thus the stage actor’s ruse initiates the real drama and the rest
of the cast unwittingly play their roles, all in a grander drama to
find the truth. So, when the curtain falls, there’s value to the stage
actor going off-script if the truth is at long last revealed. The role
of the mystic stage actor has become a magnificent one.

    This sounds about right:
“The Black Widow spider does not spin the pretty webs, instead she will spin the thick jumbles looking cobweb. These webs catch beetles, flies, grasshoppers, moths and other spiders. These spiders, although a little scary, have enemies, as well.”

It’s a delicate ecosystem we live in and most of its parts are connected – remove one player and the repercussions can can ripple out to all corners. Consider honeybees and the fact that around one-third of the food we eat comes courtesy, one way or another, through the pollination afforded by them.
Spiders do many good deeds for us squeamish humans, one of their main contributions is their appetite for insects. One spider eats 2,000 other insects a year, insects that would be otherwise eating our food crops.
“If spiders disappeared, we would face famine,” says Norman Platnick, who studies arachnids at New York’s American Museum of Natural History. “Spiders are primary controllers of insects. Without spiders, all of our crops would be consumed by those pests.”

    One mystery solved!
Why is thy universe expanding at different rates, depending upon how you measure it?
Physics professor Lucas Lombriser has come up with an elegant explanation: the measures using microwave radiation around us are part of a bubble 250 light years in diameter. But the reference “candles” stars that are used in the second method are outside this bubble.
If the density of Matter within the bubble is half that of matter outside of it, there is a 95%, or three sigma, confidence interval that the two different rates of expansion would both be accurate.
Yes people say I’m living in a bubble. It’s true. But so are you!

In other words, if you apply force to mass you get acceleration. Twice the acceleration with half the mass. If you throw two stones one with twice the mass of the other, the stone with less mass will accelerate faster than the other stone with greater mass. If you use the same horsepower to pull half the load, you will accelerate twice as fast.

Speaking of Greek tragedies… Pandora has been wrecking havoc lately. Pretty sure I got the Covid-19 and survived by some twist of fate. I went to see my doctor and he treated me for what appeared to be a bad Sjögrens flare up (I have Sjögrens—usually I don’t have serious symptoms). Anyway, he put me on hydroxychloroquine which for some unknown reason treats Sjögrens and Lupus and RA as well as Malaria. They have used it to treat viruses in past as last resort because the high dosages required can cause liver damage.
So, long story short, soon after the medicine started to relieve my Sjögrens symptoms I fell ill will flu—the absolute worst flu I’ve ever had. So, I tripled my hydroxychloroquine dosage (which is a bit much) and it killed whatever horrible virus I had. Of course, my dad got sick a few days later and stubbornly refuses to go get tested so he’s been ill for about 2 weeks now. He got a script for Tamiflu from a doctor friend without being properly tested. He’s still sick… and stubborn.
In China they are mass producing a form of hydroxychloroquine — actually just chloroquine and having positive results.
Bottom line, be cautious but don’t panic. But don’t be like my dad and DO get treatment!!
Now that I’m pretty sure I’ve built up an immunity to it, I’m free to roam. 🤪

  161. Sonia

Also, there are things one can take to counter the negative effects chloroquine may have on the liver. Ever since China start using chloroquine to treat people, their rates of new cases and deaths have fallen dramatically.
    Read about it!

  162. Spence Tepper

True Saints are themselves. They dress like you and I. They don’t act on stage. They don’t ask you to parade your issues, display your suffering in front of others. They don’t wear a turban or robes to show how holy they are. They aren’t putting on a show when they come to town. They already live where you live.

  163. Spence Tepper

True Saints don’t tell a crowd about the personal love and intimacy with them, and point to books with stories about the personal relationship of a beloved Saint and their beloved Disciple, and then explain why that isn’t possible for you.
True Songs actually become your friend. You can actually go to their home and when you invite them, they come to yours. Just like a real human being. It’s what human beings do.
Stage actors say “.. But you don’t need a personal relationship with the Master…. You already have a spiritual relationship with the Master.. So don’t bring me your personal problems… That’s reserved for only those closest to Master, those who have earned that relationship after lifetimes of work, and the Master’s Grace. And don’t send me personal letters. I throw those out. And Children? Keep them away. I don’t listen to their questions… Unless they are in the inner circle…. ”
True Saints are your friend. They listen to whatever you have to say. They offer whatever they have. They love kids. They enjoy children. They honor children as full human beings in their own right, and they have relationships with children that erase barriers of age, title and position.
Raise you standard. You were meant for more than simply being in the audience of a show with stage actors. It’s your life.

Does a true saint knows he is a saint?
If so, how does he know?

  166. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
    You ask
“Does a true saint knows he is a saint?
If so, how does he know?”
They would never use the title ‘True Saint.’
They never refer to themselves as a Saint.
They know God, they worship God within 24×7 in His Temple, and they are one with every aspect of the inner path 24×7.
And they know about their friends’ condition, their friends ‘ blindness, and inability to hear. They know their inner state.
The True Saints serve their friends as they would a beloved spouse, a beloved brother, sister, child or parent.they serve and heal sick children.
In their presence, their friends hear Shabd ringing clearly day and night. In their presence, their friends see the radiant form of their friend, not just within, but simply looking at their Friend!
In their presence, their friends are drawn to meditation, and in meditation go up to the highest regions, in the company of their Friend. It’s not a long journey at all. But sustaining there amidst life’s challenges is a lifetime’s work. So the friendships are long term friendships.
In their presence, their friends are One. They forget about themselves and only want to help others. They have merged with Shabd, which gives life to all creatures, and so they feel an affinity with all creatures, and want to help as best they can, whenever they can.
The True Saints have become water. They are transparent, one with all nature, and all because they have merged with the ocean. They are the ocean. This they know. But since we are all in that same ocean, though blind and deaf, we are all part of the One. So there are no titles.

  167. Sonia

    @Dungeness
This may be what you read (this one reported from Fortune.com but many news outlets repeat the same news):
“Being reinfected with COVID-19 is possible, said Sharon Lewin, director of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne, but such an instance would be “surprising.” It’s possible that patients are not actually being reinfected, but that other factors—misdiagnosis, human error, or faulty tests—are giving that appearance.
Testing done with animal models for SARS, a similar coronavirus, indicates that patients who recover from the disease will have immunity from it. “From what we know of other coronaviruses, you recover, you make an antibody response, and you clear the virus, and then if you rechallenge the animal with the same virus they’re protected,” Lewin said.
Lewin put stocks in explanations other than reinfection, but she emphasized that the virus still has too many unknowns and there are too few reported twice-positive cases to conduct a study or draw a definitive conclusion.”
I have two autoimmune diseases that, as strange as it may sound, are not too problematic if treated properly. But if I don’t take care of my self then they certainly can get out of control.
The virus flu I had hit me really hard because I was just beginning to recover from a very serious and systemic Sjögrens flare coupled with Hashimotos flare (they typically act up at the same time). So, my immune system was still extremely compromised and I honestly felt like I needed to be hospitalized. I’m sure I would have been if I hadn’t had the medication… as well as taking 600mg/day (which is a lot).
Theoretically I should have an antibody response. Whatever I had, the symptoms were the exact same as they are listing for COVID-19.
My dad is at the point where he’s starting to develop pneumonia type symptoms. It’s so ridiculous that he won’t go to the doctor but he says he’s afraid they’ll tell him he has the virus. Honestly, it’s NOT a death sentence unless you ignore symptoms. But he thinks it is. And my mom has adopted some sort of Christian Science approach to healing… so, I don’t know.

  168. Spence Tepper

True Saints don’t reject the disabled. They befriend them. They see everyone imprisoned by their limitations and feel great compassion. We are all the same, working to shed the layers.
True Saints desire to remove all barriers between people, by helping their friends remove the barriers within themselves and the divine living principle within. They make such barriers invisible, powerless, meaningless. They invite the disabled to their parties. They will have a refugee family over for Thanksgiving dinner. Their company is sanctuary, filled with the divine music of the spheres, each room radiant and made of windows to the sky.
What makes them perfect, besides the fact that they are the Word, is that they have no standards. All are equal, all are welcome. All are perfect as they are, to their new Friend. They make friends of people in all conditions, and make them perfect instantly by having no standard, no conditions for friendship. No rules for initiation. No initiation. All are accepted. And this is what makes them perfect. That they receive, and serve their friends as Perfect just as they are, including children. Children are not immature, partial adults. They are full and perfect human beings as they are right now.
This is what God In Human Form looks like.

  169. Sonia

Well, I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I almost think China doesn’t want the rest of the world to know how effective chloroquine is in treating COVID-19. They’ve been rapidly producing mass quantities of the drug recently and ever since they started that their infectious rates and fatalities from the virus have been falling fast.

You did not answer my questions. You gave attributes as you see them.
The baker knows because he has mastered a craft, he learned from someone.
The king knows he is a king because he inherited the throne, was educated as such and accepted by his subjects.
    Etc.
    Again:
Does a true saint knows he is a saint?
If so, how does he know?

  172. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
    I apologize. I didn’t understand your question.
Your focus on this question is interesting. Water is water. Only those who are not water, looking in from the outside, try to judge, and seek out human verification.
But the real test is meeting with the ocean. Merging with the ocean.
Become one with what you love. Then you have become the thing you are pointing to. And that thing within you will draw you forth.
The Saint knows they are one with the Lord, with Shabd and the highest regions. It is there experience. And when their friends reach this state, they know too.
And their daily work confirms the power they wield in the service of the Father.
Your question is really about how they got there. But you will see that regardless of how they got there the answer to the question of how they know where they are is the same. And the only real answer to anyone else is the same : merge with that, become that.
    You wrote…
“The baker knows because he has mastered a craft, he learned from someone.
” The king knows he is a king because he inherited the throne, was educated as such and accepted by his subjects.
    Etc.
    “Again:
” Does a true saint knows he is a saint?
If so, how does he know?”
Being a student is not a qualifier for graduation. But all of us have our teachers. The True Saint has A True Saint as mentor. Yes.
Having a degree is no evidence that one has mastered their work.
You may refer to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates on that point.
And you may refer to the Varsity Blues scandel to see how degrees can be bought and sold even in the most prestigious organizations.
And while those they serve can attest to it, they are not necessarily the best judges of exactly how advanced their friend really is. Their Friend works with scrupulous focus to eliminate the pedestals, the stage, and never allows that to enter even the minds of their friends. We are all the same at the core.
In the question you ask is the very flaw of the Stage Actors. Their followers need to put them up on stage. They want that distance. And they allow it.
A true Saint dispenses with that at once. They only promise Friendship, ever-abiding, under all circumstances. And naturally we work to reciprocate that friendship. We discover who they are as we develop, as we become that.
When you realize how empty and misleading titles, lineages and organizations are, you will wear that out. If not this life, the next.

Mystery solved!! Is it? One of the biggest challenge among astrophysicists, cosmologists and others studying the universe solved and no newspaper carries this discovery as it’s headlines!
Isn’t it a ‘hypothesis’ advanced by this theoretical physicist?..And what’s a hypothesis? Hypothesis means a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation. But hey for you it is – the Mystery solved.
    Further as per the article,
“IF we were in a kind of gigantic ‘bubble,'” states this professor. Funny you read this to mean we are in a bubble 250 light years in diameter(actually it’s 250million light years per the article).
Then, IF the density was 50% less blah blah.
Jeez so many if’s…… But hey the challenge has been solved so elegantly. LoL
Interestingly the paper titles as “Consistency of the local Hubble constant with the cosmic microwave background”. But probably it’s been wrongly titled as you must rightly state there is a 95%, or three sigma, confidence interval that the ‘two different rates’ of expansion would ‘both be accurate’.
Any scientific basis to back up your assertion? Even thisvphysicist agreeing will do.
The two rates you refer to I presume are the ones based on CMB and local method. But what about the third rate? I am sure the knowledgeable you must be aware of the existence of a third rate too.
Bottom line, certainly you live in a bubble but not us and your oblivity numbs common sense.

the explanations of MCS are interesting read ….

  177. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
I’m not sure if John says what you say. There were many witnesses, but people still didn’t believe..
“43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?”
    John 5: 42-47
    One more point to consider.
Christ doesn’t praise his predecessor as God. He comes to witness to the Father, not his own teacher as God.
” 36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.”
    John 5: 36-38
The greatest witness is the experience of the Word in the presence of our Friend. That is the Father’s own testimony.

“43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.”
    John 5: 43
This is what the stage actors do. They come in their own name.

    Hi Trevor
Here are quotes from the article
“The mystery of Universe expansion has been finally solved. … Existing H0 estimates lie around 70 (km/s)/Mpc (meaning that the universe is expanding 70 kilometers a second more quickly every 3.26 million light-years).”
“Lucas Lombriser, a professor in the Theoretical Physics Department in UNIGE’s Faculty of Sciences, explains: “These two values carried on becoming more precise for many years while remaining different from each other. It didn’t take much to spark a scientific controversy and even to arouse the exciting hope that we were perhaps dealing with a ‘new physics.'” To narrow the gap, professor Lombriser entertained the idea that the universe is not as homogeneous as claimed, a hypothesis that may seem obvious on relatively modest scales. There is no doubt that matter is distributed differently inside a galaxy than outside one. It is more difficult, however, to imagine fluctuations in the average density of matter calculated on volumes thousands of times larger than a galaxy.
    The “Hubble Bubble”
“If we were in a kind of gigantic ‘bubble,'” continues professor Lombriser, “where the density of matter was significantly lower than the known density for the entire universe, it would have consequences on the distances of supernovae and, ultimately, on determining H0.”
“All that would be needed would be for this “Hubble bubble” to be large enough to include the galaxy that serves as a reference for measuring distances. By establishing a diameter of 250 million light years for this bubble, the physicist calculated that if the density of matter inside was 50% lower than for the rest of the universe, a new value would be obtained for the Hubble constant, which would then agree with the one obtained using the cosmic microwave background. “The probability that there is such a fluctuation on this scale is one in 20 to one in 5, which means that it is not a theoretician’s fantasy. There are a lot of regions like ours in the vast universe,” says professor Lombriser.. ”

    Hi Um
One more point from John 5…
“41 “I do not accept glory from human beings, 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 4”
Jesus says he does not accept glory from human beings.
No human titles. No official kingship, no human authorized position. No throne, no stage.

  181. Sonia

    OK Bubble Heads,
Quick question, when Julian Johnson describes all those inner regions in his book, did he “go in” to go OUT to see all those regions?? I mean, those stars and galaxies and all that space stuff… where does that lead? Just something I’ve always wondered…

  182. Sonia

And just BTW, I finally got my dad to take the hydroxychloroquine after nearly two weeks and it is the only thing that has worked. He’s getting better. It only takes 3 or 4 days.
Then my mom came home really sick today. Although she has a very Christian Science approach to taking medicine, after she saw how well my dad was doing in the medicine and how awful she was feeling she asked if she could take the medicine. And this is a woman who just had surgery on her eyes without any anesthesia or pain medicine!! She refused to let them give her medicine. Crazy. The only reason she finally relented to having the surgery is because she can barely see to drive.
China claims it has successfully contained the outbreak of the coronavirus through strict quarantine. But that’s only half true. So, it’s not true.

I presume by his Father, he refers to God (he was born of a virgin right). So in order words he states he is God’s representative on this planet. Amazing.
I’d rather have individuals with man given titles, positions, wearing turbans, robes, etc than someone who makes such a humble claim about himself.

  186. Spence Tepper

The only reason for bringing up Jesus is because Um referred to John 5.
No statement about Jesus, simply trying to clarify what is written in that text.
As for your comments on the astrophysics article, I cited it to clarify that the article claimed problem solved and referred to the two primary forms of measurement.

    Hi Tenor
    You wrote
“I’d rather have individuals with man given titles, positions, wearing turbans, robes, etc than someone who makes such a humble claim about himself.”
I don’t think you understand. Jesus isn’t using his claim as evidence. He discusses the appropriate sources of evidence.
He gives three sources. First, scripture, second John the Baptist, and third, the evidence he sites as the greatest, his works, and exposure to the word.
Those are sources anyone can check for themselves.
Titles, on the other hand, are worthless. They are only evidence of arrogance.

Maybe you know someone that hears voices or a psychiatrist that deals with these disorders, or had a NDE or just an artificial drug based experience …. talking to them makes it clear that it is almost impossible to distance oneself from the impact and hold the “inner speaker” as a “real” person.

I think you misread. As far as I am concerned it’s only about calling out the stupidity being propagated about who a true saint is; especially if this comes from people who themselves aren’t qualified to make any such assessment.

  192. Um

    @ Spence
He says that those three sources will not do .., his whole discussion turns around it.
One needs, as is usual in courts 2 witnesses.
He makes it clear that there are only two witnesses that could testimony in his favor, being John the Baptist, his teacher and God, the inner witness … both are not available to the one that seks truth.
What remains is HIS WORD that he had a mission and the needs of the people, be it worldly in terms of getting cured from their disease and others, that seek continuation of their life after death.
Time and again we return to the simple facts that [1] there are people having inner experiences [2] based on that experience some feel forced to openly present themselves as “saviors” [3] there are never people with inner experiences or otherwise that confirm these experiences and the so called commands given in these experiences … as is in the case with all prophets … the most striking example is that of the lord giving land to the hebrews in an experience that abram had, without giving the rest to know that he did do so.
That is in an other way what Faqir chand made us to understand, when he found out that he appeared to help fellow soldiers to help them, and he being unaware of that appearance.
He doesn’t dene these appearances, nor the content … he only states that the conclusion that people draw ipon these experiences is wrong.
Personally I am of the opinion that all these people having inner experiences have something in common, being in the brain or their mental make up, that makes them more prone to these experiences than others and that thhis talent so to say os spread in the population according a gauss curve and people having them are to be found at one of the extreme ends of that curve …. probably related to the capacity to lose oneself in play as a child, or in movies or books when older.

  193. Trevor Smith

Three sources you mention which anyone can check….btw how does one check? Prove to me John And Jesus experienced the Word. Btw my 14 year kid too can sermonize about the word at length.
Jesus Christ vs Gurmeet Ram Rahim
Even Gurmeet Ram Rahim cited similar sources i.e. scriptures, his master (John equivalent) and his exposure to word.
Ram Rahim —–> Modern day Jesus Christ and indeed a True Saint.
Thankfully – 1)he spends a life sentence behind bars and 2) the RSSB Masters do not publicly proclaim having any experience of the Word.

    1) this isn’t lost on me and precisely the reason I thanked you for exposing JC though that wasn’t your intention.
    2) the article was titled mystery solved. The hypothesis presented by the professor doesn’t suggest it. Then while referencing the article you added your own titbits which probably you have no basis to substantiate. To make it easy for you – all this article says is that if a few ‘IF’s’ hold (as per the hypothesis) and one of the IF’s has a one in four chance, the Hubble constant computed would be consistent with the value for the Hubble constant by the Planck and cosmic background data and not with that obtained by local method. Now the difference between the two isn’t by chance or error (as both have been have now been independently corroborated by other groups) and is being attributed to a missing factor in scientists understanding of the universe. The Hubble constant has this become the focus of a hotly contested battle to discover the nature of this invisible influence.

    🤔
The part in the Bible where Jesus says “no one can go to the father except by me”.
That raises some questions. I mean, think about it… is that arrogant? Is he saying there’s no other way? Is he demanding a certain kind of “worship”? And all Christians end their prayers with, “In Jesus name, Amen”. Because Jesus said (according to the Bible) that his followers should ask all things in his name.
But I really don’t know what “historical accounts” of the entire Bible are actually true. Not terribly accurate on most accounts.

  196. Sonia

So, objectively, do we really know for certain this Jesus dude existed and lived in the way the Bible says? I mean, they didn’t have have many reputable media outlets back then (lot of fake news). And just imagine if the current day media covered some of the stuff he is he reported to have done. I’d love to see the public reaction to some self proclaimed god man intimately hanging out with prostitutes. Amongst others sensational headlines that one could draw from numerous biblical accounts. You should ask Bill Maher what he thinks about that. 😂

  197. Spence Tepper

    Hi Trevor:
“Three sources you mention which anyone can check….btw how does one check? Prove to me John And Jesus experienced the Word. Btw my 14 year kid too can sermonize about the word at length.
Trevor, clearly you are looking to pick things apart and missing the point altogether. Everything I’ve written is about finding a True Saint..they are in all parts of the world. How to do it? I’d mentioned earlier that your experience of the Holy Word, Shabd, in their presence, and your own inner experience of movement will be your best evidence.
I only point out that Christ echoes this sentiment, but not to say scripture is any evidence of anything. It may be a rough guideline, but only if you interpret it in a useful, personal way.
I happen to agree with Jesus on this point, that the only evidence that matters is the Father’s own testimony, ie; your experience of His (that is God’s) works in you.
Step back away from personalizing this for a moment. Because the issue isn’t what you are defending, whatever that is, or what you are attacking, which also, I can’t really pinpoint.
The real issue is finding connection with souls around you who are fully connected to that divine principle. Souls who can come and go into this world, or into those higher regions, transported there in the Holy Spirit / Shabd, Nam, Word…the audible life stream. And not only those True Saints, but their friends. Those friends can tell you all about them.
They exist. They have existed long before Sant Mat or RSSB ever was even a thought in anyone’s mind.
This is just by way of explaining what is actually part of nature, part of the population.
Um calls it the Gauss curve, but it’s really the normal population distribution. Within this population are those who are born with this experience. A good teacher helps them develop it.
But the path isn’t the result of work. It already is built into the human frame. Some are more connected, part of their normal sensory and proprioceptive experience.
But as it happens the True Saints, the ones who can help develop that latent capacity, do have certain characteristics. Remarkably similar in their harmlessness, gentleness, patience, kindness, lack of interest in authority, or in any formal organized religion. They shun anything that separates them from you and I, hence no titles, no position of “Teacher”, “Guru”…These are all barriers to intimacy for them.
Therefore searching for a title, a lineage, or an organization as your “teacher” is not going to lead you to that relationship, which is always 1:1, where you will find real and sustained friendship and progress.
But there are many Gurus with titles, many stage actors who try to copy those qualities. Inevitably, they can’t. They fail under any reasonable scrutiny. We love them for their service. They speak to holy scriptures and ancient truths. But they do it from their Harley Davidson, from their Jet, from their Porsche, from their divided efforts to expand their holdings and profits.
They are a mirror, not the sun. They are the lake reflecting, not the sky.

Thanks for sharing this. It prompted me to reach out to my cousin who is a well respected epidemiologist. I haven’t spoken to her since we both lived in Atlanta and she was attending Emory.
There is so much that cannot be reported in the media for national security reasons. There is much behind the scenes being done about the nature of this “attack”. There is a strong effort to reduce the amount of public panic as possible. It is very challenging when you are trying to help the masses but cannot share certain things (or people would freak out). There is also the issue of ensuring that our medical centers are not all flooded at once. It has to be handled in stages. There is the even bigger task of having pharmaceutical companies ramp up the production and distribution of certain treatments. We just simply do not have sufficient quantities of specific medicines on hand and it will take time for the pharmaceutical companies to produce them. In the meantime all we can do at best is to follow the guidelines established in the video you sent.
But there are many changes to come. It just has to be handled in stages.

I said losing yourself is probably the most difficult thing to do.
OK, so it’s not difficult for you, but we’re all very different.
Growing up I always felt very comforted by the idea of “Heaven”. But recently I realized that my idea of heaven was more of a causal realm heaven and that when I would think of that place I felt peace and love. And when I would think of leaving that place (even if it was to experience something better) I felt anxious like I wanted to throw up. So, basically, “losing myself” is terrifying. I don’t even begin to know how to be comfortable with that. Anything that goes beyond the imagination scares the crap out of me.
    Just being honest.

  205. Sonia

It’s funny, at one time I accused GSD of being Kal. Which I don’t believe to be true. But ironically, I would be much more comfortable in a heaven that “Kal” designed than to completely lose myself. I’m not trying to be difficult and I know my thinking isn’t quite right, I’m just saying that’s how I “feel” and it’s hard to get past that when you’re ME. 🙂

Isn’t that the definition of a Saint? How do you turn around now and call him a stage actor?
“But on the way between the third and fourth stages falls the Maha Sunn (the Great Void), the land of Primordial Gloom. This is a region of utter darkness. Even though the soul has a refulgence of twelve suns, yet it is unable to penetrate this darkness by itself…Only a Sant Satguru, a Master having access to the highest regions, can take it through that darkness.” (Sardar Bahadur Jagat Singh, Science of the Soul, p. 22)

  208. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
    You ask
    “But Spence …
” is that not what you have done here …. comparing things that are so apart that they cannot be compared?”
It’s not a matter of what I’m doing. On the basis of your own argument, how can you know?
Some people will resonate to what I wrote. Something in it will ring true for them. Some memory, some experience they may not have understood at the time will come forth. The note they hear will be the same, incomparable note they once heard in the presence of a good and kind person. They know at some level, they’ve met such a person before.
For the rest, it is incomprehensible. They have nothing to compare with these words, no familiarity with anyone who fits these descriptions of the True Saints. For these without experience, without gnosis, there is no basis for them to compare with except the stage actor. That is the only standard they know. This is why there are stage actors. The stage actors serve a purpose.
But they are not true Saints.
But there are true Saints. And they do not sit up on a stage. They do not preach to crowds.
They have no titles, no formula, no formal teachings, no initiation, no organization, no formal authority. They worship God day and night within. Their whole life revolves around that.
You will get more from their company than any stage actor.

The race is on in the medical fraternity to find a cure for True Saint Syndrome a.k.a TSS
Some major symptoms include sufferers believing
    – true saints and stage actors are mutually exclusive
    – true saints can be distinguished basis their physical appearances and qualities
    – to be a true saints, a person needs to be goodness, kindness, friendliness, love, empathy etc personified, refuse titles and not be rich and modern
    – they can distinguish true saints from the others
    – that they have met such true saints
    – they are right in their beliefs
One other peculiar symptom is whilst the sufferers think they know a true saint from a stage actors, they actually end up being followers of stage actors and at times even having them as their spiritual masters.
Consensus amongst the medical fraternity though is whoever finds the cure is likely to find himself being nominated for the Nobel Price for Medicine.

    But the article says
“”The probability that there is such a fluctuation on this scale is one in 20 to one in 5, which means that it is not a theoretician’s fantasy.”
The article states a range from 95% (one in twenty, three sigma) to one in five (25%), not multiple ifs.
Did you just invent your statement – one in four? Where did it come from?
Can you actually quote these multiple “If” s you are referring too?
    You wrote
” Now the difference between the two isn’t by chance or error (as both have been have now been independently corroborated by other groups) and is being attributed to a missing factor in scientists understanding of the universe. That is the problem the hypothesis solves using conventional physics, no missing factor needed. By having a huge bubble of space with a different mass than the mass outside the bubble, you get two reliable and different measures depending upon if you are measuring inside the bubble (standard candles) or the totality of all space (Microwave radiation from the Planck satellite).
    Did you not get this?
“A UNIGE researcher has solved a scientific controversy about the speed of the expansion of the universe by suggesting that it is not totally homogeneous on a large scale.”
    https://www.techexplorist.com/mystery-universe-expansion-finally-solved/30680/
    And here as well.
    https://phys.org/news/2020-03-mystery-expansion-universe.html
This is what theoretical physics is all about. The hypothesis is a rational solution. Now scientists search for independent verification that this is the only plausible explanation. The hypothesis solves the problem that there was no plausible conventional explanation. There is. But it remains a hypothesis until new data can be used to confirm this plausible explanation is the right one. Even once verified, it does not become theory until its cause can be explained. Yes, the bubble now explains the two different measures. Yes, at some point new data may verify this is so. But what made the bubble.? That’s when verified hypothesis opens the door to new theory. But the explanation itself is a plausible solution.

Don’t be afraid to find the True Saint that lives where you do. Don’t settle for sitting in the audience. Find someone gentle, kind, with no title, no interest in having an audience.

Come on Anami…. You beat me at my game by posting this before me.
Why do you think I asked him that specific question.
But do remember the fakeness of these posts was called out by another poster.

Tune in this weekend to watch the showdown between Trevor and Spence!

  214. Sonia

    @Trevor,
Ya know, there’s nothing wrong with being a Saint and being nice too. I do fully understand that being nice isn’t a prerequisite for Sainthood in RSSB but it couldn’t hurt. IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE BOTH A SAINT AND AN OUTWARDLY KIND, LOVING & NICE PERSON TOO.
You don’t have to assign the qualities of love, kindness and being “nice” to Kal alone. There is nothing wrong with a Saint displaying these qualities. In fact I think it would be far more productive.

  215. Sonia

You know what, I actually do believe that Gurinder is a saint—a true saint. I say that in the sense that I believe he has gone beyond mind and maya. I only realized this recently because I understand a little more… a lot more.
But still… you get a lot more bees with honey. A lot more!

  216. Sonia Taylor

OK, loving might be a prerequisite but how they show that love could be sweetened a bit.

  217. X17

Posted by: Spence Tepper | March 13, 2020 at 09:53 PM
So very convenient is your shift from a position of “another mystery solved” to it being a explanation, a hypothesis, a plausible solution.
Not surprised though as it’s not the first time and it’s a Hallmark trait on display.
What’s obvious also is between your first and this last post you have taken time to actually look up on Hubble Constant and what this paper actually attempts to convey.
Somewhere in your post you ask – what made the bubble. Which bubble are you asking about? Is it the imaginary one with a diameter of 250million light years? If yes, that one was made by this physicist who put forth the ‘hypothesis’
Finally Is Probability one in 20 95% and one in five 25% ??

  218. Sonia Taylor

I do believe in tough love when it’s appropriate. We live in a world where people have become so fragile and easily offended that it’s annoying as shit. However, if you’re going to be tough then you also need to have a conversation explaining why you’re taking that stance so that the person you are trying to help understands why you are doing and saying what you are… and they need to understand that you are taking that stance solely to help them.
I have to do this with my nieces… especially now that they’re teenagers and are influenced by their peers that it’s natural to have a long list of things to get get triggered about.

  219. Um

    @ Spence
In an orchestra everybody is a musician but only one is able, willing and appointed to be conductor.
It is possible ,that whatever you write is the final truth in the matter but for me as reader it doesn’t resemble anything I ever came to know and experience on this matter.
And …. for me to take up a snake just because an passer-by says it can be done, is not the right way … it goes again the very grain of the inborn instincts.
But your intentions can be all good like your words.
As said this are two worlds that cannot be compared.
In my youth we were out in the woods finding mushrooms with some Italian friends of the family. People of south Europe are known for their pleasure in going into the woods searching for mushrooms and truffles. Were we live that is not a tradition so we had no more knowledge about mushrooms then the famous red ones with white specks, as they were part of fairy tales we heard ad children. In these countries nobody will even touch mushrooms out of fear to be poisoned. Our friends had to show us which to take and which not and did so with an air of being experts. So far so good. Happy with their harvest and the prospect of a good meal they started preparing the mushrooms looking smilingly in the pan. We in contrast were overwhelmed again by fear as after all WE were also supposed to eat them … something different than plucking them. To shorten the story, against our fair we tasted the mushrooms … and …. the were tasty, very tasty even …. but ….. but … my brother got terrible sick.
These friends didn’t have the intention to poison us … but they did …even after having the expertise of years, succefully gathering and eating mushrooms.

    Trevor,
Spence could be right both ways.
    Or neither.
    Moment of Zen.

  221. Trevor Smith

    @Trevor,
    1) IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE BOTH A SAINT AND AN OUTWARDLY KIND, LOVING & NICE PERSON TOO.
    2) You don’t have to assign the qualities of love, kindness and being “nice” to Kal alone. There is nothing wrong with a Saint displaying these qualities. In fact I think it would be far more productive.
Posted by: Sonia | March 14, 2020 at 01:31 AM
    1) can’t figure out why you convey this to me when my position is physical appearances and qualities are the most ridiculous yardsticks to conclude who is or isn’t a true saint. For me – humans including the self professing expert @ Spence are utterly incapable of identifying a perfect master as one. Maybe you should type out in CAPS addressed to @spence the following
It is possible to be be both a perfect master and an outwardly cold blooded calculating jerk.
    2) I don’t think I have even remotely the qualities of love etc to ‘kal’ alone.

  222. Spence Tepper

    Hi Anami
Yes to the above. If a True Saint masquerades as a stage actor, because, as you see, some folks simply don’t understand the Divinity behind kindness, aren’t willing to search, aren’t willing to oblige themselves to the commitments of friendship, would rather find fault than Christ in you and I, would rather take, and always refuse to give, then the True Saint they claim to worship for entirely selfish reasons, might as well be a stage actor. Their Master has laid down some decent impressions, but that hard shell has only hardened. Why wouldn’t they go and rob a bank at gunpoint if necessary, and reject all that false flattery, and push with both hands the lazy and heartless Satsangis to go and learn a lesson about decency from their own community? What if all that was necessary? To realize that the highest spirituality is kindness and love we must lose that Master we had become so complacent about, and which we used, manipulated to serve our own selfish and heartless nature?
I would be right there shovling money into the sacks with them, reading what those heartless, lifeless critics persist in trying to kill, compassion nagging at them from within. To see these throw daggers in near competition with each other, as to who can kill any form of kindness the fastest, those daggers which only pierce their own small hearts, is not a hopeful picture. It doesn’t inspire much confidence in any organization regardless.
Even if the Stage Actor is God Himself, the Statsangis magically transform him or her into a false abomination… And they do this with their own hatred of other people. What does it mean to love a Master if you hate those gentle souls living in kindness, generosity to their own detriment? Have no use or value for them? Yet those are the True Saints. They give without an audience at their feet.
And so the diaspora. ‘Your Saint is a fraud, hence you are a fraud..’
It’s a terrible thing for A Saint to have to play such a role in order to push away the infection of heartlessness and cruelty that has infected their followers.

  223. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
To find real truffles and not poisonous mushrooms, you need a pig.
You say “you are just a pig!”
But the pig knows best in this matter.

Sometimes I wander why Satsangis bother coming to this blog to debate anything at all. I mean, is the point to win an argument or just to argue for the sake of arguing?

  226. Sonia Taylor

All of the RSSB blogger representatives have a unified point to make:
    1. A true saint can say and do whatever he wants regardless of the consequences
    2. A true saint can say and do whatever he wants regardless of the consequences
    3. A true saint can say and do whatever he wants regardless of the consequences
    Did I leave anything out?
Keep it up. Apparently it’s working really well for you.

  227. Um

As I wrote, we were seeking mushrooms and i explained the interaction between laymen and self appointed experts and the negative consequences on believing them on their words.

Until now I have not come up with an answer … I suspect if it becomes clear I will no longer read or write her.
Now and then, before falling asleep, the emptiness of words, grabs me. There are so many words I write that have no real meaning to me from childhood on. That realisation is like flashes of light. If the become a light, the reason to read an write will be gone.

FYI, I’m a true Saint currently accepting applications for initiation. I’ve made it to the 7th region (a well kept secret from RS). So, being a perfect saint you will have to accept that every offensive thing I’ve ever said on this blog is exempt from Karma.
    I do have a few requirements though;
    1. You must abstain from corn and soy. They have suffered terrible abuse and until you become a perfect saint yourself you should avoid adding to your karmic load. Fortunately I can eat as much of those things as I want. You’ll have to work towards that.
    2. You must meditate 5 hours a day. These are the end times and I’m not gonna be doing any hand holding. Don’t tell me you don’t have 5 hours a day. Just look at your screen time!
    3. Don’t ask me any stupid questions. And if you’re not sure whether or not it’s a stupid question, then it’s a stupid question!
    4. Live a clean and moral life however the fuck you interpret that.

  230. Jen

Sonia says she wonders why Satsangis bother coming to this blog to debate anything at all.
I wonder this myself and its probably because its something I have in common with ex-satsangis because it takes a lot of courage to break away from a path that seemed to me to be well worth following and I still stick to the main principles but don’t call myself a satsangi anymore probably because I don’t worship a guru or put someone on a pedestal. We are all imperfect imo.
I don’t believe in Saints. I do often remind myself to be grateful. Especially after escaping South Africa and not having to live in fear any more. Very happy to be an initiate and following a pure path with high standards of morality. Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude is my mantra.
(Murder. Around 57 people are murdered in South Africa every day. This is probably just an estimate because the police are not notified about all murders.)

  231. Sonia

Actually, you’ll probably find the RSSB guru more enjoyable than me. But has he been to the 7th region? You have to divide whether it’s worth it.
I mean he allows crazy shit that I simply won’t tolerate, like stuffing your faces with Indian sweets and all your bullshit whining at Q & A. I don’t do Q & A that’s why you will have to meditate 5 hours a day. The answers are within. Whatever I tell you will just get passed through the rumor mill and come out sounding nothing like the original answer.
He also allows you to live in luxury if you so chose. Nope, not on my watch.
And 2 and half hours a day isn’t gonna cut it. You still think to much and my goal is to get you to stop thinking (which will, again, help you to resist the urge to ask stupid questions).
No whining. There’s no crying in baseball!!!
Everyone sits on the floor. You’ll eventually find this easier and easier to do as you free yourself from your diabetic coma and host of other illnesses do to the modern diet.
And did I forget to mention no sugar? Absolutely NO SUGAR! Sugar is Kal’s greatest weapon you lethargic sloths.
So, what’s in it for you? You’ll be able to say, “I made it to the 7th region!” A side benefit is you’ll feel better and be healthier but that’s not my main goal. You might also realize GSD isn’t such a jerk after all. I’m tougher, but that’s what Master Yoda taught me. I’m filling in till baby Yoda is old enough to be Master.

  232. Sonia

It may sound a little confusing but the Star Wars films will be your bible. Avoid the Death Star. Everything they serve in their canteens are laced with hidden sugars.
May the Force be with you. 🙏

  233. Jen

What about compassion. Imagine yourself being another person who is carrying out their orders, for example being a guru. How difficult and strange that must be. Maybe the ego will be very strong in someone who has to be an example for others who have their beliefs in a Path and a Master who is going to save them.
Its only when a person realises that the only one who is going to save them is their own self. Watching one’s own thoughts and feelings and being aware of our actions and our own programming and decision making is what I like about Zen.
Its not about criticising or judging just simply observing our own thoughts and feelings. Its good to have compassion for one’s own self, especially when we are over critical of self, thats when we need it more than anyone else.

  238. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
Your mushroom excursion was just one instance of relying upon a false expert. Could this be your pattern?
I told you a pig would help you find the most valuable treasure, for truffles are worth more than their weight in gold. Of course a decent dog can do nearly as good a job.
That wasn’t false advise, Um. But you’d have to do a little research to see it for yourself. That’s the point to finding a true Saint living near you.
At least find the kindest person devoted to God you can, in any religion, or in none, simply thankful to the creation, devoted to her.
They might be A Saint. They won’t be self – proclaimed. They don’t believe in titles or official positions when it comes to spirituality. You will do the proclaiming on the basis of the power that pours from them, and your own transition upward within surrounded by resounding celestial music.

  240. Spence Tepper

    Hi X17
    You asked..
“Finally Is Probability one in 20 95% and one in five 25% ??”
    Yes and no.
A one in 20 chance means that of 100 repeated measures, only five will be variant. That’s 95% reliability. That is the minimum standard for scientific significance (three sigma for non – normal distributions and two sigma for normal distributions) . This is the minimum level scientists must achieve to have
    ” significant results “.
But that range can vary to only one in five, according to professor Lombriser, which would be 20%. If that turns out to be more reliable, it is high enough to suggest there is something to this bubble hypothesis, but it may be incomplete and a missing force or configuration is at work that is yet to be defined.
However, if that 95% result holds up under repeated independent testing, then the bubble hypothesis is proven as a scientific fact.
Right now it is a hypothesized solution, but is yet to be proven. The mystery is solved by a conventional physics hypothesis alone, and now must be tested and verified.

To be fair, I seriously doubt most of the opinions expressed by Satsangis on this blog are true reflections of what any of the RS Masters think.

  249. Sonia

Any satsangi who thinks love isn’t the most important attribute of a perfect saint clearly hasn’t read anything written by any saint in all of ever-ness. Equilibrium of Love is RSSB’s book of the growth of the Dera since GSD took over. Notice the word “Love”. Perhaps you should start attending Satsang if you don’t believe Love is important. GSD has always said it’s important to be loving.

  253. Jen

Spence says: “No. They are stage actors.
And I only know this because I’ve met true Saints. You can’t compare the two. They are worlds apart.”
Who are these true Saints you have met?
You also say: “But there are true Saints. And they do not sit up on a stage. They do not preach to crowds.”
So, how and why are you so privileged to have met and know these so called “Saints”?
Sonia says: “To be fair, I seriously doubt most of the opinions expressed by Satsangis on this blog are true reflections of what any of the RS Masters think.”
Sonia, why don’t you ask Gurinder this question? You seem to be fond of going to the Dera maybe you could ask what the RS Masters think and please don’t forget that I am no longer a satsangi, but you seem to be still attached to Gurinder and Sant Mat.

  254. Spence Tepper

    Hi Um
You have written that that’ll find no precedent in the writings of the Saints for what I have written. But hi it must have read, perhaps long ago in your youth, the writings of Guru Nanak..
“All virtues are yours, God. I have none. Those who miss God get contentment…. You cannot miss God without doing good deeds….. Those who recite God’s name and do good deeds, the fragrance of truth comes out of their bodies….. By doing truthful deeds one falls in love with the door to God’s palace…. Achieve inner peace by being humble ; get absorbed like water in water.. O Nanak, they are happy in whose mind the divine tune wells up… ”

  255. Spence Tepper

    Hi Sonia
It may be possible that Trevor was referring to your use of the term True Saint, and instead supplying his preferred terminology “Perfect Master”. Ie, it’s the Perfect Master who is free to do as they wish, not the True Saints.
Of course no one is free. We are either bound by burdens of imposition, economics and health, or burdens of attachment and love.

    Wow 😳
Thanks, Jen from Austin Texas. Now I’m compelled to read Spillover. You know I can’t resist a good book about potential pandemics. It’s funny, I don’t get upset when people express different spiritual perspectives (for the most part) but when it comes to anyone receiving poor medical treatment I get really upset—like really, really, upset.
During a pandemic, I think we should be able to bypass the standard forever long clinical trials process and jump to trial and error. OR we could employ common sense and start using the treatments other countries are having success with. The rate this virus is spreading is exponential. In a month from now, our world is going to look very different.
Seriously, this whole situation is karma and natural selection.
People need to stop putting animals in their mouth. 😑

    Hi Jen
    You quoted me then wrote
“You also say: “But there are true Saints. And they do not sit up on a stage. They do not preach to crowds.”
“So, how and why are you so privileged to have met and know these so called “Saints”?”
It is indeed a privilege. The cost is only to look around. Find the kindest, humblest person you know, someone devoted to the goodness within all people, and get to know them. Someone who is not ambitious, radiates peace, and asks nothing of you.
They are worth some time. If, in their presence, you start to hear the inner music, then that is your second clue. The first clue is their kindness, compassion, patience and balance. Someone with a spotless reputation. Not famous, not mighty. Just clean and clear.
They are in your community. Find them, get to know them personally. They may not do anything for your soul. They may not be rich. They may not read your mind, or heal you. They might live in very meager circumstances. Yet they will be kind and generous with their time. And spending time with them will open up something within you that may help you hear Shabd and find the True Saints around you. But at least you will be spending some time with a superior soul. That’s good for all of us.
This is the point. The very fact that no one here is familiar with people who fit this description says a lot. We are too self – absorbed to notice the beauty around us. We want roses when there are so many lovely tiny wildflowers. And those tiny wildflowers are connected directly to nature.

Now, I understand why Charan said America could be a 3rd world country someday. The truth is, if we have an even deadlier pandemic in the future, the entire world will be living in third world conditions.

  264. Spence Tepper

Without God, all this is a transitory illusion.
So if in fact there is no God and all this is just a passing show, and all we value transitory, then pick the better illusion. Then believe in eternal life. Because life in fact will carry on after you die. Long, long after. And life was here long long before.
Then believe in eternal love, for love was here long, long before you had a name, and will be here long, long after your name is forgotten. That you share life with life, and love with love, believe in that which lasts. Believe you are still part of that.
The eternal forces of nature, why not be close to those?
If it’s all an illusion anyway, pick one that brings you closer to the eternal forces of reality, deep within yourself.
    Why not call that God?

    Hi Jen from Austin Texas,
I haven’t listened to the 37min piece by the author yet. When I went back to your comment I saw the YouTube link and watched that.
It’s so crazy—first wave estimate potentially 60M people dead… and second wave could be double that??? So 200M from COVID-19 alone. And there will be much more damage to the global population than loss of life.
Not to get all gloom and doom though. I’m not afraid of the Virus—it’s treatable. 99.999% sure I had COVID-19. It would be too coincidental if I had one of the other corona viruses when this novel coronavirus hit. I was miserable but I survived. My husband got sick too but not bad. My dad and mom both have it. Mom is doing better. Dad is better but not 100%. I think I’m going to have to drag him to the doctor tomorrow.
I created a twitter account devoted to tracking COVID-19 news, updates and treatments. Here’s one article I posted with some key points highlighted below.
    ••••••••••••
    rhttps://www.marketwatch.com/story/coronavirus-vs-the-flu-its-just-like-other-viruses-and-we-should-go-about-our-normal-business-right-wrong-heres-why-2020-03-09
So what are the differences between coronavirus and the flu? For starters, there is no vaccine for COVID-19 and it could take many months or years to get one to market, and, unlike the influenza viruses for which there are several vaccines, humans have not built up an immunity over multiple generations. What’s worse, doctors fear the virus will mutate.
Another reason not to compare the two viruses: Influenza has likely been around for more than 2,000 years. Scientists say the “novel influenza A viruses” in humans lead to a pandemic approximately once every 40 years. But, again, flu vaccines exist. “The flu has been with us since the birth of modern medicine,” said Adalja.
What has all this got to do with COVID-19? There is an advantage to coming down with a virus that has been around for hundreds, if not a couple of thousand, years. Humans, ideally, will have built up more natural defenses to fight it.
“But it doesn’t seem like there is cross-immunity with this coronavirus as there are with the other coronaviruses,” he added. In other words, the natural defense systems in our body that help us ward off flu are unlikely to apply here.
    ••••••••••••
I missed my calling in life—I should have been an epidemiologist!!! 🤪

I should have clarified…. My post was from the perfect Master’s point of view. Ask a perfect master if you know one and you will hear this from him. They are here to free and not bind or change the rusty chains which bind to diamond studded ones.
Of course from we humans point of view – you may be right. They do possess some good qualities which they put to use.
Will prefer perfect masters or stage actors as true saints in here is meant to mean as defined by a @spence.

  270. Spence Tepper

To say those who are one with the Lord and given the power to bring souls back have no interest in good work, or that qualities of love and kindness have nothing to do with their mission, really misses the point.
To parse out good works, an open and loving heart as separate and lesser than the raising of souls into the highest heaven is trying to dissect love into pieces and then selecting and prioritizing them. When you dissect the unicorn, you kill her in the process.
The True Saints, and even the stage actors all claim much the opposite: God is love, and those closest to God are the most loving, gentlest souls on earth. They go further to claim that loving the lord, even if one’s practice produces nothing, leads to salvation. And further still they teach that one cannot make much progress unless they submit and become as gentle and loving as the most gentle and loving child.
    Man! Conquer Thyself!

Here in the UK, we’re a pretty private and insular nation culturally speaking. We can live right next door to people for decades and not even know their name.
During the current crisis and global lockdowns, please spare a moment to consider the elderly and vulnerable who may live near you that you miss on a daily basis, but who may now need some of the support or help.
Lots of great local aid groups out there!!

Spence you say: “Find the kindest, humblest person you know, someone devoted to the goodness within all people, and get to know them. Someone who is not ambitious, radiates peace, and asks nothing of you.”
Well thats easy because my sons are the kindest people I know so I am very lucky. They grew up with the principles of satsangi beliefs, vegetarian, no alcohol or mind altering drugs, living a moral lifestyle etc and they are very kind and generous people.
In Australia now its all about self-isolation because of the Coronavirus. I like my own company so it doesn’t bother me at all. Cheers and hope everything is going okay with everyone and don’t forget to wash your hands (lol).

    Hi Jen
I’m being kept busy these days….

  274. Jen

    Spence,
You say: “Our “self” is full of flaws. We must go beyond that.
But we are much more than our “self”. The strength, the will, the power, the insight comes from within. But it is beyond this persona, even conscious thought, though it feeds conscious thought.”
I practice Mindfulness. Zen Presence. Mindfulness is paying close attention to the experience of the present moment, with calm acceptance of whatever is happening. I like to practice having an observing self. The observer is the inner self. It does not judge, it simply observes. Watching. Listening. This is my own consciousness. I find this reflecting and being aware in my daily life more interesting than sitting in meditation. Its just me, watching the ego self, without judgment, in my everyday life. I love Zen. Its not easy because the ego likes to judge but because of the quiet life I live I can remind myself when I get lost in worldly affairs.

  275. Sonia Taylor

    @Manjit
Wonderful suggestion! I live in a neighborhood that has just 3 streets—one way in and one way out. It’s nice because we’re a bit secluded. A lot of elderly neighbors—many choose to retire here because of the closeness. It’s not exclusive, just a comfortably middle to upper middle class neighborhood but modest considering. I don’t think anyone would appreciate a knock on the door at this point. I don’t even see many of my neighbors going for their usual walks. But our home owner’s association has a phone list and perhaps we should reach out that way.
    Great suggestion!

@Sonia, here is a nice little joke for you
A contractor promised a Minister that he would bribe sumptuously if the contract is approved..
Believing him, the Minister wrote on the file *Approved*..
Even after two days, the bribe money was not given….
    Minister felt cheated…
Minister’s attendant said : Don’t worry sir. I will bring the file & you simply write *Not* before *Approved*.
    So it became *Not Approved*…..!!!
Two days later, the contractor bribed him as per the contract…….
Minister was worried as to what to do now ?
The attendant again came to his rescue, brought the file back and said…
    Write *e* after *Not*
    …which ultimately became
    *Note Approved*…..😜
But this is also how politicians function in many countries.

  281. X17

    Hi X17
Posted by: Spence Tepper | March 14, 2020 at 09:45 PM
No need for now repeatedly stating that this paper is just a hypothesis at the moment. It was obvious from the start to all who bothered to even take a casual look at the article – like I have done. It would have helped if even you had done this. Would have saved you the embarrassing shift in stance.
Anyways now coming to probabilities. 4 red ball and 1 white ball. What’s the probability of drawing a white ball? Only a deep thinker, a true saint maybe, would answer this question as – the probability of drawing a red ball is 0.80. So much for your initial response ‘Yes and no’ when specifics are being dealt with as is probably the case even here.
In this paper, what’s the event whose probability is being guesstimated btw?
And the range of what can vary to 1 in 5 and why does this conveniently become 20% for you and not 80% just like 1 in 20 is viewed as 95% by you.
What an amazing hypothesis it seems to be with an occurrence or non-occurrence of something in the range of 95% (1 in 20) to 80% (1 in 5) This must be the reason for the comment in the article ‘
‘It is not a theoretician’s fantasy’.

    Hi 7,
Thanks for asking—my mom and dad are much better. They’re doing well. Mom took hydroxychloroquine for 4 days and my dad took it for a little over a week. He had been sick for about 10 days before he started on the medicine and his immune system is really weak as it is Like, there is no reason on earth why he should still be alive—he has so many health issues. But they are both feeling well now.

  285. Sonia

Btw, Doctors in India have been successful in treating Coronavirus. Combination of drugs used: Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine and could could become the emergency mode line of treatment for coronavirus.
Posted by: Trevor Smith | March 18, 2020 at 07:37 AM
Yes, they are using the same drugs here. The HIV antivirals are expensive. And Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) is what they first put my dad on but he just continued to get worse.
But hey, whatever works. There are many options out there. Different areas and countries seem to have different preferences.
Bottom line, if you feel sick, go to the doctor. If you’ve been in contact with someone you know has COVID-19 then get tested (don’t go around spreading it).
And every person responds to drugs differently. Fortunately we all responded the same way. Started of slowly and then all of the sudden you feel like hell—chest pain, sweats, low grade fever and cough and just so achey and tired. I’ve had bad cases of the flu a few times in my life. My husband and I both got West Nile Virus when we lived in Colorado. I rested a lot but he kept working until one day we had to rush him to the emergency room. He almost died. It was really stupid. You have to rest when you are sick!
So, with this last illness, for me and my mom and dad we literally felt like hell and then about an hour after taking the medicine the pain went away. But it would wear off after about 6 or 7 hours. Then take another dose and feel better for the same amount of time (rinse and repeat) until finally you don’t feel sick.
Like I said, whatever works. Just make sure you get really good medical care. And wash your hands all of the time. Don’t touch your face.
I went to the store today and recognized about 100 ways I could catch or spread a disease just through my usual way of touching things. I can’t imagine how we’re actually going to keep this from spreading to at least 80% of the population.

  286. Sonia Taylor

I meant to add in, “I’ve had bad cases of the flu in my life but nothing like this.”
West Nile Virus wasn’t even this painful. And it caused meningitis!

  287. Spence Tepper

    Hi X17
    You asked
“In this paper, what’s the event whose probability is being guesstimated btw?”
The null hypothesis: The hypothesized bubble explains the differences between the two popular methods used to calculate the rate of expansion.
Using the hypothesized variance in matter density inside the bubble to adjust mathematically the results of the local method (using standard candles) produces the same results as the background radiation method 19 times out of 20, or 95% of the time. Or statistically, there is a 95% probability that the two methods of measuring the same thing (one with the professor’s correction factor) are actually doing so.
That’s the high end of professor Lombriser’probability range. And that meets the standard for statistical significance.
But the professor also gives this a range of variability down to only one on five. There are some variations to either the samples he is using for his calculation, or some of the assumptions, such as the exact percentage of difference in matter density and the size of the bubble.
That’s only 20% of the time his Calculation adjustments accurately generated the same result as the background radiation measurement. That is not high enough for statistical Significance. But that is high enough to support that something is there. Some impact of different mass and diameter to a degree, more or less, can be used to create an adjustment that brings the results of both methods of calculation closer.

  288. Jen

    Hi 777,
You say: “At least try to hear the violin – a very high frequency tone – it is your Soul”
I do have a kind of high pitched sound in my head, not like a violin though, that would be difficult to manage probably would totally lose the plot and drift around in a dream like state 🙂 Oops I do that already lol.
This self-isolating advice because of the coronavirus suits me because thats the kind of quiet lifestyle I have anyway.
Hope you and your family are going okay. The advice seems to be always about older people catching the virus so we have to be careful, but I think positive thinking helps anyway and a bit of magical Shabd also helps.

I can’t believe that you are still talking about Hubble’s Constant. I read your “papers”/links and am trying to understand why it’s so important.
Is it constant? What is dark matter? And what does any of this have to do with every day life? https://youtu.be/7TZP13qXZQg
Side note; the Andromeda Galaxy makes me happy. When I look at pictures of galaxies I get really strong and powerful feelings—every range of emotion from peaceful to beautiful to exciting to disturbing to terrifying. Just depends on the galaxy. Yep, I know it’s weird. I’m kind of glad we have so much light pollution because if I could see galaxies the way we earthlings used to be able to see them before light pollution, I would see the galaxies I love and then some I don’t love. Some are just really upsetting to look at even if their symmetry or design seems aesthetically appealing.
Luckily, it’s not a problem as long as I don’t go googling images of different galaxies.

  290. Sonia Taylor

I used to always believe it was mass that caused the “heaviness” in this world. But mass doesn’t create the heavy feeling—inertia does. Mass and inertia are totally different, as you know.
Our ability to move faster is what makes us feel lighter. But moving faster, feeling lighter/cleaner and getting things done (the most efficient way) has more to do with overcoming inertia. And inertia is more of a mind thing, IMO.

  291. Sonia Taylor

There’s so much research on this. People keep sending me links re this med for COVID-19. Many research tests show hydroxychloroqine works better than just chloroquine phosphate.
But doesn’t mean it will work for everyone. Some people might need the HIV antivirals… maybe cancer patients and people compromised at that level or people with certain intolerances. Anyway, I’m not trying to preach about it, but I wanted to show their is a good deal research behind it… people need to work with their doctors. All I’m saying is it’s not like I was recommending some homeopathic quackery solution for a pandemic type virus.

  298. Hey Sonia
I had a look at the link to ‘Essential Sant Mat’ from the RSSB website. After an initial scan, some of it does seem to be shifting focus. A few direct quotes:
    1. ’A true spiritual master is interested only in developing the disciple’s awareness of truth’
Can’t argue with that – however I find it hard to remember if it was ever put that way in the literature I used to read, and there are several lines in the article that mention ‘Awareness’.
    2. ‘…merging our consciousness with the creative energy or divine power which permeates every human being and indeed the entire cosmos’.
Ok = Other words for shabd. Yet it also seems to becoming more ‘inclusive’? Maybe in future they may add in references to the Divine Mother or even Shakti? – Holy Gaucamole!
    3. ‘….the natural consequence of being born into a body that will not last forever. True masters view the present human life as one in a series of lives, governed by cause and effect’.
While karma is mentioned, what’s interesting here is that nothing is said about the ‘soul’ being affected by karma. In my view this is another and more useful signal that what gets affected by karma is mind not soul. Clarified further when Charan Singh is quoted:
    4. ‘When it [the mind] becomes attached to the inner sound and light..’
The only time soul is mentioned is in a quote from Jagat Singh:
    5. ‘All the pleasures of the world, the attachment to body and senses, the I-ness and duality have to be discarded before the soul can become fit to partake of the sweetness of Nam.
Sets a hi bar for us plebs. Soul comes into play in/is a state of non-separation. It’s about the totality of consciousness imo.
As I keep harping on- the interpretation of soul as some sort of separated individualised entity is problematic. Current RSSB teachings seem to be evolving? to address this while at the same time maintaining a line of dogma to keep the organisation functioning?
Oh and by the way a last quote:
    6. ‘….live a clean, honest and moral life, in all areas of personal and sexual relations and in business. A true master sets very high standards here, well beyond what is required by society at large’
While this may still be the case it sure looks like this is problematic also!
    Best wishes

  300. Sonia Taylor

    @Tim Rimmer,
Essential Sant Mat is focusing more on “the” one thing while becoming a lot more inclusive of people in general. It’s very simple, but profoundly better said. Same message without all the unnecessary superfluous stuff that used to make people think they were “special”. Special in an arrogant way that is.
I was just really pleasantly surprised by it.

That’s beautiful. I’ve always had an affinity for Sikhs. I think I was Sikh in a past life. Really awesome what they’re doing to help here, especially in the hard hit war zone of New York. 🙏
I wish I were Indian… but an Indian living in the US. I always wished I had brown eyes and long dark brown hair and their graceful beauty and elegance. Oh well…

  307. Sonia Taylor

This is a continuation of my last comment.
I think it all stems from this girl I went to school with. We sat next to each other in grade school. She was the only Indian in our school and her dad was a surgeon—mega rich too. He invested well. Anyway, her name was Rani and she was voted most attractive girl in school when we moved on to Junior High and High School. I was always a bit jealous.

  308. Sonia Taylor

All of the Indians where I grew up were extremely wealthy and spoiled and their kids were brats. You don’t come to this part of America unless you’re a doctor or working for the University in some specialized department. So, my perspective on Indians my whole life was very different. Here, where I grew up they were obnoxious. The parents were nice but the kids were so ridiculously spoiled. One girl I knew got married and her parents spent a few million dollars on her wedding. They had a destination wedding in Laguna Beach. Her mom had a coffee table book of the wedding. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life. I was invited to go only because her mom liked me but didn’t go because I would have never fit in with that crowd. Anyway, it was probably the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever seen (in pictures). But that’s quite extravagant in my opinion. I understand weddings are important but Jesus!
It wasn’t till I visited India for the first time in 2013 that I truly understood how poor some if not most Indians live. I was so surprised. When I planned my trip I was really looking forward to the train ride from Delhi to Beas because I assumed (based on the kids I here) that I’d be traveling first class in “Executive Coach” through some beautiful scenic countryside. 🤣🤣🤣
One of my brother’s Indian friends said, “Even Indians don’t visit India!!!” He was joking but trying to prepare me.
    I love it, though. 😊

The more you look for truth, the harder it is to find. This world is overflowing with pretentious, self-righteous, know-it-alls who are completely out of touch with the lives of those struggling to keep food on the table, a roof over their head and proper healthcare.
So generous of these CEOs not to take a salary while they’re workers are laid off. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 I’m trying to imagine what it’s like to have enough money to be able to forfeit your salary willingly. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

  314. Sonia Taylor

There are only two certainties in this world—the world with always be full of suffering and we all die in the end.
Now I think I know what it feels like to be a nihilist.

  315. Jen

I used to be really into the New Age movement and read quite a bit about the Four Yugas.
Kali Yuga, what we are now living in…
“It isn’t hard to recognize that even though we live on a planet that surrounds us with beauty, that there is a lot of darkness happening within humanity. The ancient Sanskrit teachings understood that civilization goes through distinct cycles of creation and destruction.”
“Kali Yuga: The final age lasts only one tenth of the cycle, however, that is certainly long enough as it is the age of darkness and ignorance. People slide further down the path of dishonesty, with virtue being of little value. Passions become uncontrollable as unrestrained sexual indulgences and manipulations run through society. Liars and hypocrites rise. Important knowledge is lost and scriptures become less and less common. The human diet is now ‘dirty’, and people are not even close to being as powerful as their ancestors in the Satya Yuga. Likewise, the once pristine environment is now polluted. Water and food become scarce, as do family bonds.”

  316. Sonia Taylor

    @Jen
We’re definitely in the Kali Yuga… hopefully at the very end. I don’t care if I’m reincarnated or not. I just want this to be over.

  317. Sonia Taylor

Today was a turning point for me. There’s so much in the fabric of society that’s about to implode. For the first time in my life I finally got to the point of “Oh well, if we die, we die”. Just this deep feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. No matter how hard we try, every leader and every group and organization has their own ideas on how to fix this mess. And no one agrees which is slowing progress even more. But it’s too much to “fix”. We will suffer some pretty massive blows before this over—the entire world will. I guess this is where a Zen attitude of acceptance is the only thing that’s going to help one maintain their sanity.
I’ll be amazed if all of our key government and intelligence agency heads keep from 🤯🤯🤯 considering all that’s at stake. People are going start to crack or just adapt an attitude of apathetic resignation.

  318. Sonia Taylor

Honestly, the hardest part is that no one, and I mean no one, can seem to agree on what are the best steps to take. We’re like officers (that are supposed to be on the same team) in a stalemate before even going out into the battle zone.
    It’s truly f*d up.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I hope so because it’s literally life or death.

  319. Sonia Taylor

I don’t believe in God. I think the best we can do is learn to accept what life has given us. Through acceptance you will find peace.

  322. manjit

Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them, “Is there a mantra which works in every situation, in every circumstance, in every place and in every time – in every joy, every sorrow, every defeat, and every victory – one answer for all questions? Something which can help me when none of you is able to advise me? Tell me, is there any mantra?”
All the wise men were puzzled by the King’s question. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appealed to all of them. They went to the King and gave him a ring with words engraved into it, with a condition that the King was not to read it out of curiosity. Only if, in extreme danger, when the King finds himself alone and there seems to be no way out, only then he can read it. The King wore the ring without reading the engraving.
Some time later, the neighbors attacked the kingdom. The King and his army fought bravely but lost the battle. The King fled on his horse and the enemies followed him. The King found himself standing at the mouth of a deep ditch. If he jumped into it, there would be no way out. The sound of the enemy horses were approaching fast and the King became restless. There was nowhere else to go.
The King remembered his ring and about the engraving. He decided to read the message.
    “This, too, shall pass.”
The King read it again and again until something struck him. Yes! This, too, will pass. Only a few days ago, I was enjoying my kingdom; I was the mightiest of all the Kings. Yet today, the Kingdom and all its pleasures are gone. I am trying to flee from my enemies. But just as those days of luxuries have gone, this time of danger will pass, too. Calm came over the King. He remained still and silent. The King looked around at the place where he was standing and realized how beautiful it was. He had never known that such a beautiful place existed in his Kingdom.
The revelation of the ring’s message had a great effect on him. He relaxed and forgot about his pursuing enemies. After a while, he realized that the noise of galloping horses had receded and that his enemies had lost him.
The King gathered himself and reorganized his shambled forces and fought again. He defeated the enemy and reclaimed his empire. When he returned to the city after the victory, he was received with much fanfare. The whole capital was rejoicing and everyone was in a festive mood. Flowers rained down upon the King from every house, from every terrace as he trotted by. People were dancing and singing. In this moment the King thought to himself, “I am one of the bravest and greatest Kings. It is not easy to defeat me.” In all of the celebration an ego emerged in the King.
Then a ray of sunlight caught the King’s ring and sharply flashed into his eye reminding him of its message, “This, too, shall pass.”
He lowered his gaze and his valiant expression changed to one of humility. He realized, again, that if this, too, is going to pass, it is not yours. The defeat was not yours. The victory was not yours. You are just a player. Everything passes by. We are witnesses of all of this. We are the beholders.
Happiness comes and goes. Sorrow comes and goes. And Life?
    This, too, shall pass.

Hope you are doing well and are able to keep in touch with friends and family during this time of uncertainty.
    Thanks for “not noticing”. LOL
But I do feel like a Bee. A lot of things rise to the surface or get magnified during stressful times. Like, I thought South African men were misogynistic, but Indian men are the worst!!! I honestly believe Inda’s karma as a third world country has everything to do with how it treats its women… women in general.
Despite the fact that we are upside down on a lot of things here in the States, I would so much rather be an American than have to go through what the poor people in other countries are going through. Perhaps Australia and New Zealand are doing better than most but these are still difficult times for all.

73? You're still young! 🙂 So nice that you live near your grandkids. My stepdaughter and her husband used to live in Leiden and we visited them there. I absolutely loved it. But I don't mind that type of weather. Probably not the most ideal place for warm-weather birds.
It is indeed very nice what RSSB has done to help all of the local communities.
Yes, I've been kind of curious about the Singhs. I actually wrote a long letter to GSD at the beginning of March. Not about that but other stuff and questions. However, I doubt mail is getting delivered as it should and even if it did, it's not likely they have time to read all the mail. Especially mine! It would probably be flagged for burning. LOL I don't know what I was thinking.
Anyway... yes, this too shall pass.

    Hey, Sonia.
It isn’t quite a lockdown. We’re under orders to stay at home as much as possible but allowed to go outside and travel around. Local buses are free during the crisis, but we’re discouraged from using them unless necessary. To protect the drivers, passengers exit and enter through the rear door, and the front section is chained off, except for the disabled, who on many buses board by a folding ramp through the front.
I went to the post office yesterday and noticed handy packing tape X’s on the floor spaced 6 feet apart to maintain social distance while in line. We still see delivery trucks and cars and bikes and pedestrians, but fewer. Some people wear masks, but most don’t. They walk their dogs or jog or buy supplies. The only place to see other humans in numbers is out for fresh air and sunshine in parks or by the waterfront, but most everyone’s being good about distance.
The subways are still running too. There’s comfort in that, and I was a little stubborn at first, running around to recover stuff from work and hoard cat food and litter, but I felt queasy, violating the principle of safety in numbers deeply ingrained from three decades here.
Not that I’ve ever encountered many threats. The year before last, a homeless guy decided to talk smack at me every time I walked by, my fault in his brain for reminding him of his brother, a Catholic priest, and refusing to fall for his ridiculous hustle, give him $10 for repayment of $20.
There was another time I went to see friends play at an East Village bar, but when I got there, realized I didn’t have the $5 to get in. I stood outside deciding what to do, alone in the cold and dark under a construction scaffold, when this guy comes up, reaches into his waistband, and asks, “Want me to shoot you?” like I’m sketchy and don’t belong there! His down jacket is unzipped and his hand concealed behind one open side of it. With one hand I clutch his wrist, so he can’t pull the hand back out, and with the other I bunch the two halves of his jacket firmly below the collar. Then I look him in the eye, say “No,” and push and release him gently, like I’m granting him permission to live. Maybe I did look sketchy. Back then I went around unshaven with long hair and a black leather overcoat, but what was I thinking??? I’m no tough guy and have no idea whether he really had a gun or what the heck he was up to. Crazy.
But that’s nothing compared to another coworker at the time, who wrestled the gun from a robber late night home on the J train to Halsey St. In the struggle a shot went off, but he twisted the gun at the guy’s crotch, asked “You wanna shoot now motherf***er?” and kept the gun when the crook let go and ran–justice for holding up two of his friends a few days before. The next morning he saw the guy on the subway platform, and they exchanged hey-man-what-up’s like nothing ever happened. Life in the big city 25 years ago. These days I worry about my wallet more around the rich than the poor.
Nevertheless, I’m done with subways for now and ranging beyond walking distance. I’m nervous just going downstairs for the mail, but when I get outside and see people looking casual, I relax too. We had a few days of panic buying at first, but supermarkets are stocked again. Society hasn’t broken down, although I’ve been practicing at baking in case bread becomes scarce! On one hand, the fear of something can be worse than the reality, but on the other, this virus is a ninja lurking in the shadows.

Wow! Life must be quite a bit different for you right now. I’m used to your usual hilarious one liners… occasionally more but you just write a column piece.
Fascinating. Life in Brooklyn… where all the hipsters moved more than a decade ago.
Your “tough guy” stories are pretty cool. 😄 I mean they’re funny but what’s even funnier is that you haven’t had more run-ins in all the time you’ve lived there. You must be in a nicer part—do you live near the Williamsburg area? I almost moved to that part in 2007 but found that rental agents are impossible to work with over the phone. I was trying to secure a place while living out of state. The few places available that were decent and in my price range would go to the first person with cash in hand. If only there had been Google pay or Apple Pay then…
Ahh, but that could have changed the entire course of my life which might have f*kd with fate a little more than fate had patience for.
Anyway, I’m pleasantly surprised to hear you’re a cat lover and a good “owner” (“owner” kind of seems like a horrible way to refer to our pets but “parent” might be stretching it a bit).

Well, I’m between painting the entire inside of the house a lighter shade of grey (not my idea), listening to an audiobook and wondering whether or not it falls within the social distancing guidelines to have our neighbor’s kid walk our dog, Marshall, I found time to watch this: https://youtu.be/ElIf2DBrWzU.
What bothered me more than anything as far as Trump is concerned was his concern about how this pandemic’s affect on the markets could negatively impact his re-election campaign. I was never a big Trump fan but I did have high hopes he would step to the plate with regards to COVID-19. In some ways he has and in some ways definitely not, IMO.
However, I agree with Oliver in that how a country handles a health crisis, as serious as this one, speaks volumes about the country.

Thanks, ‘An Ordinary Indian’. I’m interested in astrology and enjoyed the videos you posted about the planetary positions and energies which are currently affecting our world.
“MARCH 29TH to APRIL 2nd.These are reflections of Global Karma, and shouldn’t be taken lightly….”
“April 1st will not be a good day.”
    … Wednesday, 1 April – April Fool’s Day 2020 !!
He talks about purifying the face, which is also being talked about on video (Australian Government Department of Health) that “Officials keep warning the public not to touch their faces”. Whenever I read that I automatically touch my face…

    @Trevor,
I just finished listening to the audiobook version of ‘Have a Little Faith’.
    Truly very beautiful and touching.
“I am in love with hope”. Yes, that sums it up perfectly. (And you can’t flip to the back of the book to read that when it’s an audiobook! 😂)

Here is one interesting paper presented. If there is indeed a connection established, then India has had a National BCG vaccination policy from 1948.

So in this period the number of cases in India doubled (750 on 1st April), though the absolute number of ~2000 is still relatively small.

Oddly enough I’ve felt better and have been calmer/happier this week then I have been in years as years.
But April 4th is supposed to be a difficult day. And historically, April 3rd has been very bad for me. If I could take one day out of the calendar each year, it would be April 3rd.
