RSSB guru, Gurinder Singh Dhillon, meets in jail with man accused of laundering drug money

Since I was a member of Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) for 35 years before becoming disillusioned with the organization, I occasionally get messages from people about their own dissatisfaction with RSSB and the guru who has led RSSB since 1990, Gurinder Singh Dhillon. I share them as an example of how religions and religious leaders can go astray.

Recently I was sent a link to a September 23, 2025 story in the Hindustan Times, “Dera Beas head meets Bikram Majithia In Nabha jail.” (RSSB is headquartered in the Punjab province of India.) It’s a short story, so I’ll share it here:

Spiritual head of Radha Soami Satsang Beas Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon on Tuesday met Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been lodged in the New District Jail, Nabha in a disproportionate assets case since June.

The two held a closed-door meeting that lasted 35 minutes, jail officials said.

“The Dera Beas chief had sought permission to meet Majithia as a family member, and it was granted strictly according to the jail manual. Dhillon has close family ties with Majithia’s wife and Majitha MLA Ganieve Kaur,” a senior jail official said, requesting anonymity.

The official said what transpired was not known as it was a one-on-one meeting in a separate room.

The visit comes after the jail authorities denied permission to senior SAD leaders to meet Majithia. Daljit Singh Cheema, Sikander Singh Maluka, Mahesh Inder Grewal, and Virsa Singh Valtoha were stopped at the gate, citing rules that only family members were allowed.

Radha Soami sect, located in Beas town 45km from Amritsar, has a large following across the country, particularly in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Followers had gathered outside the Nabha jail to catch a glimpse of the spiritual leader, who greeted them amid tight security before heading for Hira Mahal, the residence of the descendants of the erstwhile royal family of Nabha.

Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau from his house in Amritsar on June 25 in a disproportionate assets case allegedly involving the laundering of 540 crore of drug money. On August 22, the VB had filed a 40,000-page chargesheet in a Mohali court in the DA case. In the FIR, the VB claimed that 540 crore of drug money had been laundered and it was facilitated by Majithia.

The FIR stems from an ongoing investigation by a Punjab Police special investigation team into the 2021 drug case. Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on the basis of a 2018 report of the anti-drug special task force. He spent more than five months in Patiala jail and walked out of prison in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana high court granted him bail.

Seeking more information about Majithia, I found a December 5, 2025 story on the Tribune India web site, “High Court junks Bikram Majithia bail plea, fixes 3 months for probe.”

I was struck by how the accusations against Majithia mirror similar accusations against the RSSB guru, as has been extensively reported on this blog: money laundering and setting up of illegal shell corporations. I had problems viewing the story until I used Apple Reader. So here’s a PDF file and some excerpts.
High Court junks Bikram Majithia bail plea, fixes 3 months for probe – The Tribune

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail petition of former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a corruption case based on a special investigation team (SIT) report alleging accumulation of more than Rs 540 crore [about $60 million] through illegal entities.

…The high court observed that Majithia was accused of serious economic offences and the investigation revealed “huge unaccounted money in his bank accounts, as also setting up of a large number of companies through which the financial transactions had been carried out surreptitiously for his benefit”.

Justice Dahiya said it had come to the probe agency’s notice that money was routed through foreign entities based in Singapore and Cyprus. “The petitioner was directly or indirectly in control of most of these entities with immediate family members, and appears to be the key beneficiary,” the high court said.

The Bench observed that leads to track the money trail were being followed. “Not just the role of these companies, but also that of the petitioner’s close associates and financial experts is under investigation,” it said.

Referring to the stage of investigation and the apprehension of interference, Justice Dahiya asserted the investigators were said to be in the process of accessing crucial records regarding “questionable financial transactions from various banks, financial institutions and other agencies”.

A Wikipedia page about Bikram Singh Majithia has more information about this unsavory person. It is indeed curious that the RSSB guru would visit him in jail under the excuse of having close family ties with Majithia’s wife. Here’s an excerpt from the page:

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS)

In December 2021, the Punjab Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Majithia under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case alleges his involvement in a drug trafficking network operating within the state. In February 2022, Majithia surrendered before a Mohali court in the drug case registered against him in December 2021, and was remanded in judicial custody till 8 March.[10][11]While his wife Ganieve contested from Majitha constituency in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election and won, Majithia instead contested from Amritsar East, and lost.[12][13]

He was imprisoned in Patiala Jail along with his rival Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu against whom Majithia contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.[14]

On 10 August 2022, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Majithia.[15]The Punjab government later challenged this decision. Subsequently, the Supreme Court directed Majithia to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning in March 2025.[16][17]

Following the Supreme Court’s directive, Majithia was summoned by the SIT on 17 March 2025. He appeared before the team in Patiala, where he was questioned for over seven hours regarding his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking case.[18][19]

On 18 March 2025, Majithia was called in for additional questioning by the SIT. The investigation has expanded to examine financial transactions linked to firms associated with him, with authorities scrutinising suspicious financial activities that may be connected to the drug trade.[20]

Disproportionate assets charges

He is facing serious corruption charges related to a disproportionate assets (DA) case. On 25 June 2025, he was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with a disproportionate assets case.[21]

In August 2025, the Vigilance Bureau filed a comprehensive 40,000-page chargesheet against Majithia in a Mohali court. The chargesheet cites over 200 witnesses and includes evidence of financial discrepancies and illicit wealth amassed during his tenure as a minister.[22]

The case alleges that Majithia laundered over ₹540 crore in drug money, funnelling illicit funds into his controlled companies and routing them through foreign entities. The funds were reportedly deposited in multiple bank accounts, with evidence of hawala transactions, mobile phones, and laptops seized during the investigation.[23]

Gurinderji is pie in the sky rich. Rich enough to gain the pope’s attention. Gurinder kissed the ring. Sheena was just another gold digger and Gurinder is just another sexy sadie with a bigger helicopter . I do nothing. Gill and company were just in the legal narcotics busines . Gurinder probably wishes he could have stayed in the hospitality business.

    • Ex initiate

In Sikhism there was not a single event where two gurus were needed side by side gurinder has just distributed his so called god’s work to the shy and clever gill and he himself now correcting all the mistakes that he have done
In Sikh scriptures it is said that God is one and now rssb who says that we also follow Sikhism making people fool by having 2 gurus at one creating duality among the poor sangat .
Here in punjab they have readily accepted Gill over gurinder now they are just waiting for the end
Moreover gurinder dhillon’s brother in law has been appointed as a adviser to Chief Minister of punjab when this jailed MLA is having their own govt ( Shiromani akali Dal ) in punjab .
So from 2007 to 2017 gurinder ji is living tension free.
And now he just reaping the the harvest

@Ronald,……and other Readers,…….what’s your opinion on the effectiveness of the thousands of Initiations Gurinder Singh has shared with all those he has initiated? Do you think they are connected to the RSSB Lineage , and protected by the prior Masters, or, not?
What about the Initiations shared by Gill? Do you think they are connected to the RSSB Lineage of Masters. Or are they bogus , while Gurinder is still alive and still sharing Initiations?
Further, do you think all the Initiates who were initiated by Gurinder and Gill were, are, effected, or contaminated by the ilegal actions or baggage of Gurinder and Gill , by accepting Initiations by them?

    • James

      Jim,
Yes, quite a few of us initiated by Gurinder have been affected by the legal issues. Before the issues, “I” was all in- Seva, Satsang, and lots of meditation. Having plenty of those Sant Mat experiences within. After hearing all that about the money and property, (regardless of all the rumors of what he said at different Satsangs that was off color), I began to pump the brakes. Once you step back and look objectively, it became AM radio as opposed to FM radio. There is the guilt (of walking away), but I’m working thru it. It’s been years now, and the guilt is less and less. As mentioned, I dabbled in psychedelics and saw a similar comparison of those experiences to the meditation and began to realize the meditation may be coming from the juice of the pineal gland. (My thoughts). The Great Master mentioned somewhere about the pineal , I don’t recall which book, but it makes sense. Faqir Chand says over and over we give the power to the Gurus and said the Beas line feels we can’t handle that bit of truth. So I live with and work thru the guilt, still enjoying the Simran to relax, and keep working on the “Who” question. Who is thinking, who is moving about, etc,. Still a very strong vegetarian and not as strong Vegan, but staying strong and trying to be a good human regardless. I feel this might be the lesson: If you meet the Buddha on the street, you have to kill him. It all has to be dropped/forgotten. Ah, I burped a lot here, trying not to throw up. Hope this helps from a Gurinder initiate who knows quite a few of us.

    @ Mr. J. Sutherland

Well .. I know what I have heard and read about the teachings and the narrative.

Born, formed and conditioned as I am, I process things that I hear and read as something said, or written by another person. It tells about the believes and experiences of another person.

For me, however impressive these might be, these are all things that remain there with them … they are not actual part of my life.
One can compare it with somebody telling be about treasure hunting..the treasure can be anything material, mental or spiritual.

So I know quite a bit about what there is said in Sant Mat about initiation, masters, the interrelations between the lord, the master and the individual person … but I have no personal experience of what initiation actual is ..

According to what I have read and heard, it is much more than an administrative activity … given the words that they use and the many tales they tell to make their followers get an idea ..mostly of the consequences and urging to see themselves in a certain way with regard to the guru and the lord.

The most famous is the tale of the sheep, herded by a shepherd by order of the God, the owner, the GIVER of life

They speak of silver cords, that are taken from one hand into another, that of the Guru and bound by him to an “place” of his willing.

Again that is what they SAY and what I have HEARD …and …. I am not much of an believer if it doesn’t have an relation with practical life … so I am not an un-believer either … what they say and write can be true … the spanish gold might exist and be hidden somewhere ..nice story but I have no inclination to go after it. ..I have my cdaily coffee and I am alive.

Ex satsangi here. I got initiated years ago. I will tell you what happens.
      1. They give you a personal socument to complete. You have to give your name address personal information and a photo on it (they know who you are and what you look like and where you live).
      2. They give you a document sign, a contract which you have to sign. It is just one page long. It sets out that nam should be taken seriously and you commit to this forever. I would call this a “soul contract” where you sign your soul over to GSD.
      3. Initiation day itself you get a small breakfast and many speeches from big sevadars. If you have questions and they don’t like them, you’ll be shouted at and made fun on openly and called names.
      4. They take you into a room and teach you how to meditate. You sit cross legged on the floor, block your ears. You are given the nam dan meditation mantra from one of the sevadars (in the past their guru himself would do it)
      5. The nam is 5 names which are in Sikhism. Jot niranjan, onkar, rarankar, sohang, satnam. You are to repeat this (simran) for 2.5 hours alone daily. You are told to listen to the sound (bhajan) of celestial music from heaven which comes when you do this. (In the past you were promised you’d hear it on initiation day so you know what to expect). You are told you will also see things.
      6. You are told to keep this all secret. You are told to not to tell this mantra to anyone at all, and not to tell anyone your experiences when you meditate. You are told it is different for everyone.
      7. Most ex satsangi people I’ve spoken to said nothing ever happened. They never saw or heard anything. They just lost time in their lives sitting along for 2.5 hours in darkness instead of living their life.

I do not understand why you put all these things before me. I suppose that if you follow what others write here in this blog, that I am well informed about everything at hand.

So tell my why you put them now before me.

  5. Ronald

I think God and Love protect everyone. Gurinderji is just trying to form the basis of having two Radha Soami Satsang masters in the world of that lineage concurrently when he finally passes. Be prepared for the first American master of that lineage. One who does nothing.

  6. Um

AND … for me doesn’t matter much if at all if I or another can prove that this or that human being is a [perfect] guru …what motivates my decisions are my personal preferences .. whether I like what is said and how the person relates towards me.

I realize quite well, that my personal preferences, say something about me and nothing at all about the other person

I didn’t feel for example at all emotional attracted to the late Sri Bhagawan Rasjneesh especial his body language but there were several issues he adressed in his discourse that made me laugh and were refreshing ..that all said he can easily be the one and only.

  11. Brian Ji

Interesting if you think about it, your average non-initiate seems way cleaner than your god in human form now. How come most of the guru’s family is either in jail (Nimmi’s sons, Genevieve’s husband, MCS’s grandson) or should be in jail but manages so escape (GSD’s sons and GSD himself).

Dad spend a week right before Christmas at the Dera Beas hanging out with the ‘senior’ sewadars as usual and one of them said JSG was at the Dera and walked into the library asking about some books and they had no idea who he was. Couple days later he was revealed to be the man. And everyone accepted.

What bothers me is he talks about two and a half (2:45 to be precise) hours of daily meditation but no one dare ask him how long he’s been sitting and when exactly he got the secret mantra. I was inclined to believe Great Master Baba Sawan Singh and certainly Sardar Bahadur Jagat Singh had hands on experience in meditation because they spoke/wrote about their own struggles and successes. Maharaj Charan Singh was kind enough to admit he didnt have a lot of great practice behind him but GSD set a new trend – no asking the guru of his own journey and blatantly preach what you certainly don’t practice. What frustrates me is how smart, well off and educated men, including my dad, let alone the vast majority of the poor, just take JSG at the next puran sant satguru by hukum straight from anami lok by soamiji himself waiting to greet us before AI and singularity become mainstream. Actually, it’ll be a lot easier sitting in meditation specially in bhajan posture in one of SpaceX’s spacecrafts in the absence of gravity with our neocortex plugged into a synthetic cortex in the cloud running on Nvidia’s latest chip. No distraction or alternately, no discretion. Where are we headed?

What is wrong with a smoking and drinking father, to tell his son not to smoke and drink?

He does not set a good example but there is nothing wrong with the advice

Spending time at looking at what Guru’s do is like spending one’s precious time on TIKTOK … instead of living ones own life, looking what others are doing.

    But everybody his own pleasure.

  13. Brian Ji

    @Um

What’s wrong with a smoking and drinking father to tell his son not to smoke and drink? So you will blow a man’s head off with a 9 milimeter right in from of your child and say ‘you see son, never do this to anyone, you hurt them and their loved ones”.

Great way to teach a child right from wrong, doing wrong to say dont do like I do versus doing right to say do like I do.

Your TikTok remark couldn’t be more inaccurate either. He is not some ‘other’ you’re looking at. He’s the Master. He preaches you must live a certain way but doesnt himself.

  14. Um

    Brian Ji:

If you go to any class, from elementary to the university, you can never blame a teacher for your own results as an student.

Students are there to learn. It is their own responsibility, a responsibility that cannot be outsourced on the teacher.

You can use the rest of your life, and precious time to focus on the responsibility of guru’s masters etc .. that is up to you .. but I can guarantee you that it will not help you in any way thinkable.

If you do not like what he says, his teachings and the practice that belongs to it … get up and go else where ..IF … YOU think that you need a master to tell YOU what to do.

And see to it you find one that corresponds with YOUR demands.

  15. Um

    AND ..Brian JI

Never forget … NOBODY in this world owes you anything

Nobody lives to make YOUR live comfortable and ..even TIKTOK was not invented to please YOU

  16. Um

    @ Brian Ji

    >> He is not some ‘other’ you’re looking at. He’s the Master. He preaches you must live a certain way but doesnt himself.<<

YES, YES he is like any other human being .. unless ..YOU know by experience what a master is …or … you are one yourself.

Untill that time, what ever you think to know about a master is just your own imagination and or that of others.

The late MCS time an again, grabbing his own legs would tell the audience ..THIS, [the man you see] is NOT the master.

So the man you call MGS is NOT the master and what he teaches is not about him, him in a human form,

You will never see him walk on water … hahaha

  17. Brian Ji

    @Um

I love how you see the good, congratuations on achieveing this state. If you’re an initiate I’d imagine you’re from MCS’s time. I am not saying I dont understand any of this. Ishwar Puri used to say a PLM could be far from being a perfect person, matter of fact he could be the worse human being on earth, but the physical doesn’t matter. It’s quite a no brainer the man people call MGS is NOT the master.

I loved computer sciences but my teacher at school wasn’t particularly good at teaching it because she had never written a line of code, she only know what was in the book, the basic DOS prompt. Which is of little use in the real world. Yet she was appointed as the teacher to teah at that level to 16 year olds. It was only after I left school I discovered java, python and programming languages that run billion dollar applications. The science was always limitless, the teacher had her limits.

I’m now pursuing the rest of my life following the same success I had with computer sciences through self discovery. I dont have anything against the teacher either, she was only in her ealy 20s and did her best given she had never travelled the path herself (read built applications). But she read in the book how code can work and if we tried we could build software. She wasn’t a criminal though, only had her limits, that’s it. But nevermind about the criminal part.

  18. Um

    @ Brian Ji

Of course you are right with regard what you wrote about the computer teacher and your later development and achieving succes.

But the question is, can one transfer the same reasoning on a human that is serving as a guru in a la spiritual school?!

The narrative that is to be found in most if not all school is a simple NO, … there is no way to recognize a true guru based on his human behavior.

Ishwar Puri, and other teaching humans in this or that Sant Mat lineage, were in there teachings, interviews and Q&A sessions, addressing the audience, about what THEY could and or should practice the teachings, they were never discussing themselves, nor other guru’s

One of the advice, of the mate MCS was, [1] I doesn’t matter if you are not able to look upon a guru as god, look upon him as a friend or any other way that SUITS you [2] to be frankly he said, after initiation you need not to have any contact with the visible Sant Mat if that irritates you in any capacity, … you are given all you need to practice on your OWN ..You need not let it known to anybody.

After initiation there is nothing more to be done, a person is given all the tools he need to practice…. the narrative states that, the inner connection is made and from then on a person is reeled in like fish or driven to the stable like sheep ..whatever is available in the outer form of sant mat is ..as he used to say .. just an HELP, it is NOT a necessity.

Mind you ..What I write is nothing but the narrative ..and ..yes .. If a person can not or is not willing to look upon the affairs from his life from within that narrative, he or she can easily face all sorts of problems that make it difficult if not impossible to go on practicing … Do you think I am not informed about what is all available in the media etc? … The matter is what does one do with that information.

I have over time learned a profound lesson from the interaction with Sant Mat that I once expressed to a fellow sevadar one I was still associate with the sangat, in this way… IF you want to do things here [within the the affairs of the sangat] in the way you are used to at home and at work, you better stay at home and at work. He had problems doing something that was asked from him, based upon his professional expertise.

So it is up to you whether you look upon MGS in the way you would look upon a person in private or as an professional, or from within the narrative.

    • Brian Ji

      @Um

Yes, I have heard that in one of MCS’s Q&A audios. In fact most of the letters in Spiritual Gems where western initiates have described some inspiring experiences were written by people who had never seen Baba Sawan Singh (even for initiation, they were given initiation by a representative). My bst wishes to you if you’re on a similar trajectory.

      • Um

        @ Brian Ji

No I had never any si called inner experience but my dear late friend had several of them …hahaha .. Aas i knew he had , I often tried my best to make him speak up about these experiences but that was like pulling a dead horse forward … hahaha. Fortunatly he never reactedt as many satsangis used to o ..”you know Um, we are no allowed to speak about these things …my goodness typing these words fill me again with disgust.

No my froend was just a “silent” one and we liked each other compagnie

  19. s.

It starts with believing a Guru.
Otherwise one does not ask for initiation.

  20. Brian Ji

    @s

It could start from believing the path, the philosophy of the masters, not the present guru per se. The guru doesnt say anything new.

  21. Um

    @ Brian ji

BEFORE …starting out believing the narrative of a path … there are the .. personal motivations.

Humans enter an bookstore, search the shelf, pick a book and believe or whatever and digests what a writer has put on paper

Yes, you are right that the narrative has nothing new to offer irrespective the guru in charge ..but … THAT is not always accepted by the audience .. that love the teachings to be changed to THEIR desires etc.

  22. GS

    @brian

I’ve followed RSSB very closely for years, but lately after observing recent developments in Punjab politics and reflecting on how the organization operates, I’ve started to question a few things.

I strongly believe, in line with the teachings of the first ten Sikh Gurus and saints such as Kabir and the Sufi saints, that once a Master gives initiation, the Master continues to guide and support the seeker throughout the spiritual journey. What’s your perspective on this?.

How are you currently engaging with religion or spirituality in your life?
