Here’s all of the fascinating posts critical of RSSB by Anon, an ex-RSSB initiate

Truth-telling is contagious. Not always, but often. When we hear someone speak the truth — not only their own personal truth, but also an objective truth insofar as objectivity is possible — we can be inspired to follow in their truth-telling footsteps.

That’s how I felt after reading the guest blog posts from Anon, someone I’ve never met and have no idea what their real name is or where they live. This person, like me, is an ex-initiate of Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB), a religious organization headquartered in India that is headed up by a guru who is believed to be God in Human Form.

Anon’s criticisms and observations of RSSB are a masterpiece of good writing and sound thinking. Anon gave RSSB a try, found it lacking, and chose to share their perspective on RSSB in the form of guest blog posts here on Church of the Churchless. I’m deeply glad they did.

I’ve put those posts under the Radha Soami Satsang Beas category in the right sidebar. But that’s an indirect way of finding the guest blog posts, since you have to scroll through the posts in that category to find them. So I decided to list them below in hopes that they’ll be easier to locate and read. If I receive and share additional writings of Anon, I’ll add them to the list below. Enjoy.

These writings contain some interesting, if unintended, themes.

The first and foremost theme is boundaries.

Anon is a victim, easily influenced by others. Others, in his world, are constantly pressuring him to do things he would rather not. He has left the path to gain his freedom from such influences.

But a poor ability to set personal boundaries with some compassion, with some diplomacy, leaves one a victim in most any environment.

It is when we learn to set boundaries that we lose the ability to blame anyone else.

And that is the first day of freedom, the first moment we can no longer claim to be a victim.

The moment we realize we were never a victim.

That is the first step to making and keeping commitments.

The first step towards empowering ourselves to accept and to fulfill a purpose, our duty: dharma.

Then we realize all our thinking of the past was wrong. From right duty, from adherence to the vows, good thinking flows.

But from being a victim, from escaping responsibility undet the covert of being a victim, we do not have the power to fulfill any dharma.

When you find something or someone to love more than yourself you have the basis of dharma and right thinking.

Until then, you are just spinning your wheels.

After revisiting all of Anon’s posts, and all of the many comments following each Post, it reveals a lot of identity of posters who have tried to hide from Gurinder all these years, because they don’t want to be excommunicated by RSSB as Brian was, who had more personal Skin in the Game than any of the Commenters exposed as having. But by not exposing, they get to retain their Time Share Deed to take their yearly free vacations to the DERA at Beas, in order to escape their cold Winters, or hot Summers. And be served by Indian Sevador Squatters who live there full time

Also, I find the comments challenging Anon’s decision to pull His/Her Plug on 35 years of towing the RSSB Line,…or least trying to, kind of funny by those commenters, who are exposing them selves as having very little personal meditation experience, let alone, Esoteric or Metaphysical knowledge.

Hazur Gill will need to really change Gurinder’s Game, if he thinks he can retain control of the entire RSSB International Real Estate facilities and followers of blind faith. Charan Singh’s Audio Q @ As , and the old popular books will not be enough to retain those who visit here, and read Brian Hine’s extensive Church of the Churchless Blog history, along with all of the hundreds of Commenters who have contributed, but have disappeared from the Chruch altogether.

Hazur Gill better start practicing how to be able to walk on water, pull rabbits out of his Turban, and learn to play guitars better than Gurinder , if he thinks he will be able to compete with the Musicians he invites to his Christmas parties, or when he visits the U.S. Satsang Centers alone, after Gurinder stops traveling with him, and Baby sitting him.

Those Commenters with the most skin in the game will continue to remain on the Fence, with out ever exposing their Identity, before they give away their Time Shares to the Dera, where Indian Sevadors/slaves are waiting to serve them

As Sheena did, for many years, until,…….Gurinder publicly shamed her, by………..( Buy and read her book, to find out what he did to her. )

Anon mixes truth with exaggeration, speculation, personal opinion, unconfirmed rumor, and outright error.

There’s plenty to criticize about RSSB without making stuff up. Good criticism always stays within the boundaries of the provable, and doesn’t start with the conclusion that everything about a religious organization or its leader is a product of evil intent.

Good criticism of RSSB never seems to come from ex-RSSB initiates or from those who follow a “competitive” sect like SOS. Their take is always jaundiced by their emotional baggage. Doesn’t matter if they have a Phd or are a doctor; they tend to make hyperpartisan arguments. And they can’t see it. When you point this out to them they’re baffled, or get very defensive.

I recently read Prof. John Turner’s Joseph Smith: The Rise and Fall of an American Prophet. A very readable book and an excellent example of how to do good criticism. Not in small part to the fact that Turner is not currently nor has ever been a Mormon. Books about Joseph Smith by Mormons have him never doing anything wrong. Media by ex-Mormons about Joseph Smith paint him as a sociopath. Sound familiar to guru lit?

Favoritism and exaggeration (pro and con) are ever the way when believers and ex-believers write about a religion. I think I mentioned that I used to frequent a forum by ex-Hare Krishna (ISKCON) devotees. Knowing a thing or two about that sect, I fully agree with them that there was much to criticize about it. Funny thing was, despite having so much factual material to work with, there was that tendency to cook up from whole cloth even greater, but wholly without evidence, sins of the guru and his org.

I pointed this out to them and told of my experience in leaving a religion. I told them I had the same bitter feelings, but ultimately found that I had to take full responsibility for freely joining that religion. And that I found that one can go on forever railing about how terrible the religion is, and detail its faults, and make up new faults, but that this is a course that completely misses the point: If the religion is so very wrong, when then did I join it and stay a member for years? It’s the facing of hard facts about my desires for certainty, for spiritual majesty, for being a true believer because of the deliciously drug-like high it gave me — these were the real issues to question.

The culmination of this critical approach is accepting the realization that if the guru was wrong, if the guru was dishonest, then I’m just as guilty as the guru was. In short, I was the guru that I so hated.

When I pointed this out, the ex-HKs censored me, citing “hate speech.” They wanted to play victim. OK guys, I understand.

Do you want to play victim with Sant Mat? You might. I for sure did. Playing victim is like playing at anything else; it has its emotional payoff. But playing victim has got to be a very dubious way to go through life. So I try to avoid it, and I don’t recommend it.

Make no mistake, I’m not suggesting like Og or whatever his name is here that all criticisms of a guru or his org are illegitimate. That’s pure dum. Some gurus and religions really have hurt people. Gurus like Yogi Bhajan, demonstrably a monster. And such behaviour should be pointed out. But all attempts to paint all with one brush, good or bad, are not good criticism. They’re agitprop, and perhaps an understandable reaction by the believer and ex-belivers to puke out their neuroses in the grand cause of declaring “truth.” Go and do that if you like. But I don’t find it impressive, and ultimately you won’t either.

I keep waiting for Gurinder to publicly shame me but he doesn’t have the balls and I’m not a woman. And the superhero Gill isn’t a full-fledged guru until Gurinder dies ( and that could be 10 more years before death or taxes catches up with him ). And after that happens mum is the word.

    • Ronald

I mean come on the guru is supposed to be IT on this path. The One. So until Gurinder dies . Nobody needs two gurus. That’s like having none. He more than hinted to me that it was just going to be another religion with preachers and hierarchy.. why do you think he was like the mafia gifting the Catholic Church presents and respect.

  6. Ronald

It’s wrong to refer to people as ex rssb initiates because you can’t undo that which has happened. Maybe call them ex practicing rssb initiates but there are no failures in the death culture because everyone dies. And what is it if it’s not a culture of death. The whole premise is to leave the body but as I’ve said that’s what is off about it. I’ve never seen a man so scared of death as Gurinder Singh Dhillon. That’s too much karma to pay in one lifetime that he’s created. I bow to no man. You can’t continue loving someone more than yourself that does you wrong. That’s why narcissists have so much problems with love. Does God love me more than he loves himself? The answer is no because you can’t put human attributes to that which is not human. That’s why AI is going to do so well in the public sales domain .The rich will experience otherworldly wealth.

I think if Anon put his mind to it, he could write a book based on all that he has posted here. Many years ago, I read up a lot on cults and mind manipulation, mostly because I had developed an interest in spiritual matters and thought it a good idea to arm myself against such techniques. Anon’s postings, although prescriptive to RSSB, would help many spiritual searchers to see the pitfalls.

I just dipped into his posts again. The one of February 21st talks of meditation and how prolonged periods of meditation can cause disorientation. There is a lot of hype doing the rounds about meditation. One common fallacy is that meditation is all about attaining wonderful states, various spiritual realms, and levels.

Not that states don’t occur, but as some (particularly) Buddhist’s maintain, give them a passing nod as just being phenomena that arise, and let them go. I guess for them, it’s all about attachment. And also, from some points of view, meditation is mostly about just noticing, of being aware of what’s actually arising in the moment when thoughts are seen for what they are – just a stream of passing ideas, beliefs and opinions.

A major problem with spiritual beliefs, whether it’s cults or mainstream religion, is that their influence can stay with one for many years, perhaps a lifetime and cause perhaps a reaction against them or more often, leaving one to continue searching in other systems that will perhaps nullify or conversely clarify and validate past experiences.

If you look at this RS thing from a different perspective, one could argue that it is just you in your life putting a moral fence (positively) around your life by following four strictures that in themselves can only help if done with balance. Yes, the guru thing is the glitch in the system, ironically. Yet, the guru thing for all its faults does help focus the mind if one has sufficient belief. But that’s the catch. There always comes a time that we realize the clay feet of our messiahs. But RS is fine, if we can just humanize the guru and not hype him up. Of course, one can follow RS without ever attending satsang or going to see the guru. That is on us, not him.

I had an interesting dream last night. A young woman in a fast food mart stood in front of the open drinks refrigerator looking at all the drinks: milk, chocolate milk, and flavored soda. A child, unattended, ran up to the chocolate milk and grabbed it roughly, causing a large glass container of milk to crash on the floor spilling milk everywhere. The child started to cry, covered in cold milk, grasping the chocolate milk bottle in their hands, and then ran away into their mother’s arms. Her mother and the child, the store clerk and the manager all made their way to the the refrigerator and the woman standing in a pool of broken glass and spilt milk, her clothes splattered with both.

The child’s mother said, shocked, “What happened here?!” Hoping it wasn’t her child’s fault.

The store manager exclaimed, “What a mess!” and eyed the woman with suspicion.

The store clerk wheeled the mop and bucket over, handed the child’s mother a towel, and the woman another towel and and said with a gentle smile, ” No problem I’ll take care of it.”

The store manager asked angrily,” what happened!? ”

And the woman, without missing a beat said,” It was an accident. It slipped out of my hands. Let me pay for any damages. This was my fault. ”

    The child remained silent.

The child’s mother said, “You need to be more careful. My child could have gotten hurt!”

The young woman nodded and said, “I am so sorry.”

The young woman was the Master.

    The child was the ego.

And we were the child’s mother, blaming the innocent woman, judging on appearances.

How differently things look as we grow up.
